This is my first time using Turbo Tax and found it very first-time user friendly. The screens were easy to follow and whenever questions arose, the answeres were easily found. I will use TurboTax to submit personal taxes in years to come.

Only one problem
This program is awkward when you are doing returns for a couple when one of them has died during the year. The program does not allow you to prepare the returns together, yet several things need to be cross-referenced during the preparation. I was able to work around it, but it is awkward.

Easy to use
Turbo Tax is easy to use. The interview takes you through the process step-by-step. However, one part that would benefit from more explanation is "pension splitting." The first tabulations are very misleading because it appears as if the pension income is being included 1 1/2 times. A disclaimer should appear at this point to ignore the numbers and tells us that they will be repaired later after the Pension Splitting Optimizer function. This year, and last year, I thought that I had entered information incorrectly and I reviewed everything. It is not until quite a bit later that you realize that the software will "corrrect" the income figures that were shown earlier, and finally put the income splitting into action.

Good stuff!
Haha, I like how it says "Example: Best Purchase Ever"...cute.
Overall, easy to use and pretty straight forward. I do find something about the overall layout to be confusing, and can't put my finger on what -- I think maybe it's that the cluttered menu bar is a bit daunting? Still, I made it through painlessly. Cannot imagine how we used to file before user-friendly software like this came around. Thanks for making my filing experience painless!

Great Software
This is a great software package for standard tax returns, it's very easy to use and I like the features that tell you how to save more money or warn you if you've made a mistake. I like the new community chat section, however like most online chats where people give their opinions there was some annoying petty banter. Maybe TurboTax could remove such comments.

It was confusing when entering our child care deductions on my wife's tax return, but did not show up in the summary, until my net income was available. It took me close to 30-45 minutes to figure out what was happening.
Also, it would be easier to have each question and corressponding tick box more identifiable. Would shaded areas for every other question be helpful? This way, there would be no mistake with accidently ticking a box for the wrong question. Font is small, and the answer boxes are too far away from the questions on some screens that this mistake can be made.

The only one I ever used
There should be a easier way to enter the medical expenses. Why ask for the name of the patient when we are already entering it under that name? It asks medical expenses for... so no need to put the name down everytime again! Right??
I did not try, but I am assuming that if medical expenses are carried forward to the next year, we will not have to enter it again, and it will be automatically transferred to the next year. If this is not already hapenning, it should be corrected for 2012.

Good product, wish there was a Mac version
I use Turbo Tax every year to prepare my family's taxes, and it has been easy to use and good.
However, I do wish that there was a Mac native version so that I don't have to fire up Parallels just to use this one program.

TAX PATIENCE
Depending upon your computer skills, this package will work nicely for the average computer user. A beginner would find it somewhat difficult, while an expert user would just breeze through. Has many stops and checks, so you really can't screw up. Very helpful hints and the income splitting/medical & dental/ donations averaging software is very good and easy to follow.
Used it last year and will again next year.

Helpful and easy enough for me
The program was helpful and easy enough. I had some difficulty when the summary page displayed and I left it to add a receipt. When I tried to get back to the summary page, I'm not sure I ever got back but I went to "forms mode" instead to see the effect of the added receipt. It felt like an "out-of-sequence error" but it might just have been me. Sometime later, as I continued, the summary page came back but I think it came as a result of me reentering the "steps" mode at an earlier tab before "review tab". Tried Netfile this year and that went well having watched the demonstration first.

The Help menu's flow between being 'contextual' and general in nature.
Not all 'sharing' options are self evident or prompted.
Some 'ignor' items are not ignored during the review process and you continually have to select the ignor button.
A feature of 'don't show me this again' would eliminate that.

works for me!
But, the font size of all text within this program is far too small. I couldn't possibly do very many returns using this program without getting eye strain from doing so. I highly recommend that you come up with a change in these regards.

Ease of use
This software is easy to use with the easy steps to guide you through the process. I like that it double checks the work for confirmation, but I wish it would be simiplier if I reviewed and not make changes it would have an indication to say to move on. But all in all it is the best software I've used.

Easy To Use -
I find this the fastest and easiest way to do my taxwes, When I took my taxes to my accountant - it looked like he was using the same software - why pay when you can do it yourself - especially if the taxes are not complicated.

Consistent every year
I know what I'm getting with TurboTax each year, it is reliable and consistent. This is generally a good thing so I don't need to learn a whole new interface each year.
On the other hand, this shouldn't hold Intuit back from continually making improvements to the interface to make it even more user friendly and easy to understand. For example, if a field needs a percentage to be entered, for example 15%, I'm sometimes unsure whether to enter "15", "0.15", or "15%". A sample next to the field would be simple but very helpful.
