Great program, but a few tricks.
This program is great and really makes the process easy. As with any program, there are a few tricks to proper usage and a few problems have come up over the years which may or may not have been my fault and not the program, but the important thing is not to automatically assume that the program has gotten everything correct, be thorough unless your return is really basic. I have used this program at least twice previously, and I will use again next year.

getting better
It's getting more and more user friendly. The Quebec tuition fees were put in the wrong place by Easy Step and so it didn't register for a tax credit on the Quebec return. I caught it and changed it to the Tuition... line and it registered properly. It could have been a costly $500 mistake!!

Great for doing your own taxes
I have been using Turbo Tax long before the name change for doing mine and my wifes taxes. It's so easy to use. Either step by step or on your own. All the information you need is at your finger tips. I hate doing taxes but at least with Turbo Tax I am done within a half hour, completed, checked and Netfiled.

Good product -but putting in med receipts a pain
I have been using this pgm and have been happy with it for many years. Howver, I now help a number of elderly members in our family and have many health medical receipts. Inputting that information is extremely repetitive and time consuming. Surely its ease of entry can be improved.

Problem for students
I have used the QuickTax/Turbotax for several years. This year I earned my usual (small) student summer income, less than $10,000, but because I had laser eye surgery, I had over $3500 of medical deductions. The program incorectly told me to carry some of these expenses forward to next year (when I will be working full time). This would be a mistake since I would get very little deduction at that time but nearly half the cost of the surgery back this year! Be sure to check the scenarios before following the program advice!!!

disappointed this year
had multiple printing and saving problems. Program not responding at the end and had to redo entire returns. I have used in the past with excellent results. This year I encountered many difficulties.

Easy to follow and Navigate
Intuitive software that is easy to follow and navigate as long as you take your time, read, and use the help available. Some of the more complex filing forms for rental and Capital requires some reading of help files to understand how to complete correctly. I have used Intuit software for 5+ years and found it to be very helpful, particularly automatic carry over from previous years.

French language
There are no options available to complete the tax return in french, or to print in french.
Canada has 2 official languages. Don't give me the answer that you must purchase Quebec version in order to print in french, that is not acceptable.

Improvements needed
Overall I'm happy with Turbo tax but some improvements would be helpful:
(1) I couldn't print eligible pages even though my computer was recognized and your print button was activated.
(2) There should be some way to insert spouses net income without having to do both returns simultaneously. Also the net income changes as deductions are calculated, etc. It would be helpful to have the appropriate net income figure highlighted in the event the number is need for the spouses return.
(3) Once a single return is started it becomes too late to do a simultaneous return without wasting the total allowable returns available.
(4) Some instructions refer to Line XXX on the return but the forms that pop up don't have Line numbers on them or it becomes a chore to track down the appropriate form.
(5) The instructions for each section could be improved in appearance to appear more user friendly and more professional.
Other than all of that I'm generally happy and hope to see a "slightly" improved edition for the 2012 tax year.

Good software but money grab
Standard is a great edition, but the only reason I needed to upgrade from Basic was to import last year's info. So I paid an extra $20 for this.

longer than i thought
i thought this program was just a fill in the blanks. what you should know is that it is way easier to fill in spouses' returns at same time. if your kids are in school, and you have things like tuition, residence, books, transportation, resp's etc then it is up to you to know what forms to use. . some helpful tips on this would be nice of what schools should have provided.
took a lot longer to do than when i did it by hand by double the time (took 5 hours), would have taken me 2-3 hrs by hand. i am sure quicktax was easier too

Points to Improve
Good program and I've used for many years. However a few points would make it a very good program.
A starting checklist to enable assembling all the material and in the order it is needed.
The font is fixed and TOO small for aging eyes and people. It would be great is the program enabled changes to the font like most other programs.

Pretty Good but for one ommission
The product accounted for pretty much everything in easy mode. And was very straight forward. However, it took a lot of digging to figure out how to carry RRSP limits forward. That should be an obvious option.

TurboTax for Mac is desperately needed
Great software, easy to use, however they do not make it for Mac in Canada, only in the USA. Its annoying for us OSX users having to take our tax forms to a friend's/family's house in order to file our taxes. I may not use TurboTax next year if I can't do it from home.
Otherwise its a great product, just too biased towards the PC.

Program is very helpful in completing returns
Turbo Tax program is an excellent tool for those who don't want to pay for the tax service. As long as one has time to read through the support documentation this program is excellent. The program does not make any assumptions so you may get a little annoyed at having to answer similar questions several times. Overall, this tax return program is worth purchasing.

Easiest year yet
I found this years program very easy to use. Much better than previous years to navigate. When doing husband and wife returns together - it would be nice to be able to see each individual refund or payment instead of a total of each.
I will be back next year!
