Next year will be easy.
The new format was not as user friendly as previous years, but now I have been through it, I am sure next year it will be easier for me.
Having said that, I did get my taxes done and am still very pleased with the product.

Good for those who never did their own taxes
I switched over when I closed down my business. I kept my accountant on while I was still earning money as an employee [while still being deducted].
I switched to Intuit when my accountant retired, on the millions I paid to have my books and taxes done, and left me with an income called OPACPP which is very easy to work out with the Turbo/Quick Tax system.
I will add that, the younger you start using these types of tools, the better off you will be. If they had been around back in the 60's when I started working I would have never used an accountant.

suggestions
overall very satisfied but think you need to improve pension split optimizer by taking into account impact on oas for lower income spouse
useless to optimize tax refund only to find savings wiped out by increased oas clawback
surely you can integrate all factors in software

Dependable

Annoying Ads
The program works as well as it ever did, but it is plagued with annoying promotional ads for services and premium features. Intuit should stick with an intro that covers this promotional material, or allows the user to skip it entirely. I would even accept a final pitch before saving for any additional features that may benefit the returnee, but please quit the persistent ads throughout the input process.

Tax Pain Gone
I have always dreaded tax return time...I hated math in school and was afraid of columns containing numbers. Someone always did my taxes for me, until I ran out of people who were sympathetic enough to do my taxes as well as their own. Turbo Tax allows me to do my own taxes...easily...with dummy-proof instructions! I definitely recommend it to tax phobic folks like me!!

simple and accurate
I have used turbo tax for the past few years and each year I find it so easy to use that I can't believe I used to pay someone to do my taxes. The best feature is that is imports data from year to year and I can do a comparison over the years. I have used some of the tax saving tips and have found them helpful.

Good Program for Tax Preparation
After a few technical glitches, such as corrupt update downloads the program worked well. It was intuitive and easy to follow the onscreen instructions.

Better than paper and pencil
Turbotax gets me through April. Helpful with the extra complexities of living in QC and getting income from other provinces. A bit of a slog going repeatedly throught the 'easy step' process but still much less reading than manual preparation.
Overall a good buy.

Refund questions
IF YOU HAVE A REFUND AND WANT A DIRECT DEPOSIT, THE CHOICES YOU GIVE ARE TOTALLY AMBIGUOUS. Just ask "Do you have direct deposit?" AND "Do you wish to use direct deposit?"
Other than that I was happy with the program. Hope you change that for next year!

constructive critique
For non-residents it would be helpful if you had input lines for NR4 slips as well as T4 slips. Or indicate somewhere that the equivalent T4 entry line can be used for NR4 entries

comfortable with it
having been using this package or its predecessor for years, so am used to it. the only thing i would really like to see supported is the ability to file/refile using capital losses of this or other years carried forward or backward.

No version available for Mac
I'm sorry there is no program available for a Mac computer. It was with great inconvenience I was able to use this program this year as I replaced my PC with a Mac last summer.

Ease of use overshadows tax planning weaknesses
Wonderful product, and very easy to use. Unfortunately, the optimization features make generic assumptions that don't apply to all returns.
For example, when filing a joint return, the medical expense optimizer suggested putting all the expenses with the person with the lowest net income, which is usually correct...except in our case, the person with the lowest income had already used mandatory non-refundable tax credits to eliminate all tax payable. Had we not caught this, the medical expenses would have been wasted. By switching the medical expenses to the spouse with the higher income, we were able to increase our refund rather than waste the credits. The optimizer should be able to recognize different situations.
In general, I'd like to see more tax planning capabilities in TurboTax, such as the aforementioned changes to the optimizers. I would suggest asking more questions (e.g. Do you expect your annual income to increase or decrease next year?) to facilitate this.

works for me !
Ttax worked well for me this year, my main reservation is that the right 1/3 of the screen was filled with stuff that I never need, but I can't get rid of it so I often have to space right until the continue button can be seen.
The only other annoyance was that I had to come up with my installments during the interview stage. This is not the place to start putting in data as one has already been told the interview is designed to identify what pages need to be available for data input.

Very easy to follow, but there are items like safety clothes or bootes. There was no place to put them. Would like to be able to print the summary sections that you see to prove before printing all the summary reports.
