used to be best purchase not this year
I had great difficulty filing this year and spent 2 days trying to netfile. contacted your help desk and second person was able to correct by re downloading a new turbo tax. said mine was corrupted but that didn't happen til last three updates from turbo.

Easy to use
Great for family tax returns that aren't too complicated. You just need to read some of the questions carefully to make sure you are answering them correctly.

Single vs married
There is only one little glitch tht I have noticed in your program, in the review segment it asks about income sharing of benefits, but since I have checked the marital status as single, this comment should not occur.
As for the rest of the program, some small things are redundant but overall easy to use and fast to complete.
I have used TurbTax for 3 years and will continue to do so permanently.

Good product
I like the flexibility of the product in that you can use the easy step by step process or jump directly to the forms to enter your information. Our kids are in University, I work fulltime, my husband is self-employed and we have a rental property and TurboTax handles all of these situations.
Beware though if you are trying to balance deductions between spouses - medical receipts, donations, tuition transfers. It sometimes gets confused and if you don't know which form you should go to and make the change manually, it will apply the amounts to the wrong spouse.
I actually liked QuickTax better... alas.

Turbo Tax Standard
The only problem with Turbo Tax is that there is no option to increase the font size - which can be a real pain for people like me with really bad eyes.

Still like it...
Used it for years and still works fine. However, I still am baffled by some of the lingo and sometimes have to dig deeper to find basic explanations (like: what does a deduction mean, who should or should not claim it, etc). The new community help section seems to be helpful.

Good Software
I found the Standard edition easy to use and helpful although for the School and Municipal tax question on tax paid it was not clear if you are to enter the Gross or net amount of taxes paid ie: amount before the rebate or after the rebate? As well I had to try a number of times to enter my Medical Expense and pension splitting information and go back and forth before I came up with the best person(husband or wife) to claim Medical and Pension splitting for most advantage on tax owing.

Quite dependable
I like Turbo Tax and overall it is a very good product. I have some issues with little glitches(forms printing even when not needed, some overrides) but because I have used it for many years(including its predecessor Quicktax) I know my way around these.

Jury is still out
First time user and overall a pretty good product. Frustrated that some fields (i.e. Income Splitting Optimizer) required 'enter' to update the form. Same complaint re Medical Expenses Optimizer. Also noticed that the program used an Employment Credit indicator of Yes, whereas I am retired without any income other than pension income. If the Employment Credit is granted for pension income from a business, this should be clarified in the instructions.

The arithmetic and dealing with the Tax System seems OK - BUT - it is not all that user friendly insofar as telling you what you must do and what it will then do for you. FOR EXAMPLE - in changing your medical coverage year. it doesn't tell you that it automatically removes medical bills outside the chosen date range - rather it says to delete them. NOR does it say where the automatically removed items go - are they deleted (and gone)? or are they just removed from this year's calculation and then are they available when you buy and use next year's program? ...and do I have to wait till then to see them or are they available in some file/form somewhere?
AND !!!!POOR LOGIC!!!!
In the final pages to net-filing there is a queation like 'do you have no more income?' they want the 'No' answer while the logical answer is 'Yes' - I have no more income.

Keeps getting Better

Problems
It entered our safety deposit box on both returns, when I only put it on one and when I changed the dates for my medical receipts it kept changing the date back to 2010 for the year ( I had the same problem last year) Other wise was good...

Self Employed?
I encountered one issue when entering self-employment income. I had to change the classification and the incorrect entries would not clear. I had to close without saving and start over to correct.
Other than that - 3 returns for me and my family in just a few hours from start to finish.
So much easier than doing it by hand.

If you plan to use pension splitting, then do both tax returns at the same time. Its quite frustrating to go back and forth between the two returns when pension splitting if you don't do both at the same time.

Good in MOST Areas
I have used QUickTax and TurboTax for years and always been quite satisfied. There is one glitch this year, however: the 'Optimize' button for charitable donations gives the opposite result of what it should. That is, if I 'optimize', my spouse and I end up paying more tax in total than if I select the opposite setting that the optimize button does. Not a big issue if you check everything but definitely an issue if you rely on TurboTax to be correct.

The only problem I had was with the medical expences. The program tried to set the dates in 2010, I had to change it back to 2011 several times and I hope it sent the correct dates with the return.
