Still Pretty Good
Been using Turbo Tax (& it's predecessor) for years now and am quite pleased with it. Each year it seems to get smoother, but whether that's due to use & practice, or they're ACTUALLY getting better, I can't really say. It doesn't help that doing taxes NEVER gets easy, but these folks do a good job of trying to get it there!

Better if it Could Run on a Mac
I would like this product more if it could run on a MAC platform. I understand that the US version does. Why can't you do a Canadian MAC Version?

Overall it's good value
I like the product because it's basically easy to use and it is good value. Friends and family can use the software because you can file more than just one or two returns each year. My one quibble is that I sometimes found it hard to locate an area that I had previously passed. The search part seemed a bit obsure. Still I got the returns done quickly and it answered some of my questions as I progressed through the "Easy Steps"

Excellent Product
Product is easy to use.
Fairly intuitive and and easy to follow.
Only shortcoming is in the Help screens. Unless you know exactly what it is your looking for it can be difficult.
Detail in answers is limited.
If you know your way around the Tax forms then using this product is a breeze.
Took me less than 10 minutes to do most returns.

Saves Me Money
After our children started post secondary school, I had our taxes done by an accountant. After 2 years in a row with mistakes, I was upset about this. Especially with the amount of money I paid for this service.
So I tried Turbo Tax last year, and had no problems with our returns. So I bought it again this year. It was even easier.
I'll keep using this product in the coming years.

have been using for years
I had used this product when it was quick tax and now that it has moved to TurboTax has continued to be a strong product. Lots of help and used customer online help for first time this year. All in all it has been very good experience.

Helpful but needs work
To start with, I would like to say that this product IS BETTER than filing a paper return, and better than paying the green blockheads to do it for you...
HOWEVER:
Northern Residents credits are difficult to find, and being in a province/territory that is exclusively northern and eligible for all associated credits SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY prompt you to enter these credits... however I had to search to find them in the "other deductions" page.
Further to the Northern Residents credits, the exact rules as to whom may (and should) claim the basic, additional, or both amounts should be either clearly explained on the page where they are entered or a link provided. The current explanation is vague and incomplete.
Finally, having a final review page where you can use a slider bar to adjust which spouse / common-law partner is claiming what and having it update the total net refund/balance due would be helpful, so that at the end you can play with it and help to see the benefit who claims what.
If I wasn't living up in the NWT, I would have likely had little or no reason to complain about this program at all.

Splitting deductions
This is really a good user friendly product except in the area of splitting deductions with your spouse. Here, you get very little help and absolutely no indication of what is happening. When you are asked if you want to carry over deductions to another year, you are given no indication of how to calculate this or how much you can c arry over and still get your full refund. More needs to be done in this area.

Optimization
The optimization for income splitting, medical expenses and charity donations could be better. In our case, we were trying to optimize the above three so that we would pay no tax and be able to defer as much of our donations to charity to next year as possible. To do this we maximized income splitting and donations so that neither my wife or myself paid any tax and we moved the maximum donations to next year. The accounting tax program allows one to enter all the information into the program and automatically does all the optimizations.

Overall great
Only downside is slower navigation when going back to look for specific line items. Needs a 'search by line number'. However, it is definitely the fastest way to do a tax return yourself.

easy to use except!
I can't E file because I get an error because my mother in law lives in a retirement home and when I fill in the ON BEN form it insists on a property tax number, but the home only can supply a rent number. I found that a nuisance.

Tax Pain Relief Assistant
Turbo Tax is without question helpful on two fronts: Less time and frustration invested in completing a return; and, it saves paper (don't print at every opportunity) write it down and/or save the file electronically. The ease to electronically file is great!
I do have one complaint; if you erroneously check a box for a form later in the process; then, go back and uncheck the box; the form still appears - this is annoying.

Makes taxes much easier
I've used turbo Tax and its predecessor Quick Tax for years. I've also used other tax programs, but Turbo Tax is the easiest and most coherent to use. I've already recommended it to others, including my financial advisor.

Don't update mid-return
I had my tax return 99% done, then saved and left the computer. When I started up TurboTax again, it asked if I wanted to update, which I did. Then I could not find my nearly finished return and I had to start all over.

Great Value
I have used Quick Tax/Turbo Tax for many years. I find it very useful and it has taught me alot about Canadian Taxes. Although it is not yet perfect, (For example: it could provide a tip on splitting patronage dividends between personal and business) it should get the job done for you.

Easier to use
Turbotax is getting easier to use each year. The one thing that would be nice to see included is a document which shows the amounts that you can carry forward to the next year (medical expenses, donations, capital losses). I'd like to be able to print this off and file it with my tax documents so it's all in one place.
