Deleted my return and lost my cd key
Last years Turbotax deleted my saved returns and lost my user registration code and basically said I had to buy the program AGAIN. I couldn't access my files for my taxes.

usage
Using the help is not that good
Finding simple thing like where to input the access code is not easy. Inputting medical information not being able to use the mouse controls for copy and paste .
If you do use the help and you find information why does it not give you the option to be directed right to the line number

No Linux or Mac support
The product key doesn't work on Mac because there's no Mac version of the application, and it also doesn't work on Linux at all. Considering that I'm progressively moving away from Windows and onto alternatives like Linux distros and Mac, TurboTax will become less relavent to me over the years. The Windows version itself works pretty well, although I did have some minor display scaling issues that didn't impact the actual filing process.

Needs work
Had to call TurboTax help 3 times and figured out some of the stuff while waiting for advanced help. T5013 routine needs to capture more information. T5008 info - indicate that for capital gains "do not duplicate entry on Schedule 3".
Had some glitches using income splitting optimizer where suggested that could no income split; had to close and reopen to move forward.
Not conducive to confidence of accuracy.

Some aspects are confusing
All I had was foreign capital gains and foreign dividends, and none of the questions being posed in the EasySetup view was specifying whether we should include foreign capital gains and dividends when the question asked for capital gains and dividends. I had to test it repeatedly by doing different things each time to determine whether the question was for local (Canadian) dividends or foreign! Please save us time by fixing this problem by being specific.

Used to be great

very difficult this year
I've used Turbotax for many years but this time there was an error with T3's and it would not allow me to netfile. I had to research and research how to solve the error so took way longer than it should have to do taxes. Also, based on age of my husband, why mention RRSP's. He is too old to contribute yet it was a "warning" listed.

Now less helpful, and with another login!
The built-in helps seem to be more basic and less helpful than in the past (I imagine to push you to pay double for the extra live person help). Also this year I was very unhappy to be forced to create an online Intuit account in order to use the software that was saved on my PC. It seemed completely superfluous and only served to sour the experience. I'll be shopping around next year.

Troublesome Error Messages
Care must be taken when entering T3 information. Tax forms have duplicate lines which Turbo Tax does not self populate and does not clearly flag if not manually populated. This can lead to lengthy delays in resolving by trial and error.

You can't simply TRUST the software
You need to clearly understand the tax filing process, and not simply trust this software. This year, I found that it did not prompt me to enter the amount paid for accommodation in a Long-Term Care Facility. Both last year and this year it failed to prompt me to actually pay the amount of tax owing: last year I failed to notice it and had to pay a penalty; this year I have indeed noticed the software's failure.
Looking forward, I am concerned that TurboTax may no longer be made available for Windows 10 computers once Microsoft stops support for Windows 10 in October 2025. Given that my computer cannot run Windows 11, I may need to abandon TurboTax: a similar problem arose when Microsoft abandoned Windows 7, but in that case I was able to install Windows 10.

I found the downloaded version a pain. It did not download the version I bought and it ended up costing me another $30 to Netfile my return because the notice said that charitable donations were not covered with the basic version. I bought and paid for the STANDARD version which clearly states on the box charitable donations were covered by ALL versions. The website downloaded the wrong version of the product I had indicated. Never had that problem with the CD version of the program. You can do better.

Sloppy interface.
The frames are not sized correctly and can't be adjusted. The Zoom only works on the main frame. This makes the left side navigation bar unusable and this product difficult to use. Many users are having this issue -- see Reddit. I hoped Intuit would fix this as the same problem was there last year and I sent feedback then. Come on, Intuit!
Older versions of Turbotax didn't have this issue, just the last two years.

printing glitches
I was tring to prit a married couple return., It kept printing the wrong return 5 times. wasted lots of paper and ink. I called you support and the quality of the call was very very bad. they ended up hanging up on me. ( did did not raise my voice. ) they did not call me back., This year i found Turbo tax not very good.

It works but there are issues with this product
Problems with freezing if CRA does not import properly then all unsaved work is lost and needs to be added again. Recommend saving all progress BEFORE trying to import data from CRA.
Also, when printing a couple's return it will print the husband's return twice even if the wife's name is clicked on to print her return. This was an issue in 2024 as well. Had to save and exit then reopen program in our to get my return to print. Would print his return even though my name was clicked on.

Review of Software
This year 2024, the software was not user friendly as compared to previous year. Please next year, follow the format of 2023, 2022..
This year one could not navigate quickly to any section of the Return. In previous year, one could go to Page 4 of Return, or for example to T3 or T5 or any section by click of a button. This year, it was like taking baby step going back one step at a time. Frustrating.

Increase threshold
i have been doing taxes for many years and include a number of seniors. In the past most of them made under $25,000 but that threshold has not changed to reflect increases in goverment supplements. Even my poorest seniors make over $25,000. TurboTax should reflect that change

It was a great product but...
Have been using the product of over 14 years, but now, I fear it is time to move on. Some questions are repeated even though they have been answered in the profile section. Elsewhere it prompts you with questions or warnings that make no sense given answers already provided. Also when entering medical data you should be able to check previous entries with out have to go to the tax forms.

T3 Capital gains issue
T3 shared between spouses failed due to CRA making changing on capital gains half way through calendar year . Why didn't Turbo Tax catch this error and have it remediated ASAP?
This was very annoying and not well communicated by CRA and Turbo Tax, very disappointing.
