Does the Job... but...
...there is room for improvement... people who design the Easy Step method should try using it for their taxes... if they already do and see no need for its improvement, fire them. I have faithfully used TurboTax since it was WinTax, then QuickTax... there have been substantial changes, some of them have been improvements, but it's "tired"... don't make me read the same quick tips each year, make a button for people to see them who have not already seen them year after year after year... I just want to do my taxes using a "professional version" of Easy Step. It bothers me that the standard saved return pdf does not include all the forms to which I have data entered but still manages to save forms that have no data entered to them at all. I must save other forms separately, being careful to change the filename, otherwise, I'll overwrite the standard saved file. In the end, my taxes are done. I have no idea if different tax software is any better.

Mixed Feelings

RRSP & Investment Income Information
This year I found TurboTax not user friendly as pass years. with RRSPs and Entering T5 and T5008 slips, first you enter your T5 and T5008, next Statement of Investment Income and ask for how much did you received in payment, Now amounts are 3 times what it should be.

Good but infuriating!
Having used TurboTax for years, I was comfortable with the Interface and how it worked generally.
What was infuriating was that it would save my initial work files online without any obvious sign of that.
It MAY be that this is a Feature (BUG!) of Windows now, but INFURIATING nonetheless!

Medical expenses choice of claimant is still wrong
If you file medical expenses, you should check which of the spouse should claim. TurboTax's choice of sticking to the lower income partner may be wrong.

The program is too difficult to use if you wish to consider different income alternative such as additional professional income. You have to go all the way back into the program and then all the way forward.
Also, you can not get a print out of your comparison of current years tax return to the previous years tax return.

Too complicated
I don't like that you default payment through PayPal. The questions about how to file are confusing and require guessing. The product has new unnecessary bells and whistles that make it more complex to use. Stick to the basics. The text on the drop-down menus is too small and can't be adjusted as can the tax form.

T5008 Complaint
When entering/updating the T5008, TT does not return to the last entry but to the beginning of the list. It would make editing the T5008 much easier if TT took the user to the next item on the list. Second, it would be helpful if there was an alert to inform the user that a line on the T5008 was missed. Otherwise, very easy to use, quick and efficient.

2019 TurboTax
Found the 2019 Software Addition harder to use than in the past years. The link to CRA to download info did not work, carry forward of information from past TurboTax Filing years did not seem to be an option (or was not obvious how to implement) and saving / printing just the Tax Summary was not an option.

Not bad once you get a copy that works.
Product works well but the 2019 version was the second time i had trouble with the download. Had to uninstall, then search the self help pages to find a link to another download that finally worked. And forget about the phone number. You just get routed to a useless voice recognition portal that offers to send you an email in answer to your question. Customer service is poor. If you can't sort the problem out yourself, you're stuck.

Industry Codes
Small business, Canada Revenue does not use the same industry codes as Intuit. It took me forever to find the correct number for hairdressers.

Got net-filed with T-1 but CRA wouldn't accept T1135.So contacted Turbo. Solape did her best to help me in the end we tried to print so I could paper file but Turbo always printed "duplicate do not send by mail" So I had to download form and filled in form by hand

Let's simplify our tax filing
With the CRA having all our T4, T5 and other information, I wonder why we need to import it to turbotax. I look forward to the day when we don't have to shuffle information back and forth and only have to file what is not already known by CRA. Tax filing could be much easier and much simplier.

this product is helpful in that it does all the calculations and puts info in the boxes for you.
It is annoying that it asks the same questions over again and if you want to make changes it is like starting over.
They have tried to make it simple but it seems to get worse all the time. I did not care for the format for entering numerous donation slips. I believe there used to be several columns that could be expanded and labelled... not have to go back into it for each item. I don't care to enter one amount. It is small things like this that are annoying.

Frustrating at times
Overall the software works as advertised. There are some items that are painful. For example, opting to carry your RRSP contribution forward. It was not evident how to do this. In addition, it would be nice to know why the "estimated return amount" goes up or down as you enter information. For example, I entered my son's university tuition information and his return amount was reduced substantially. I needed to do some research to find out why it was reduced as intuitively I would have thought the return amount would increase. I find dealing with CRA frustrating and this software only makes it slightly better.
The interface and usability should be improved.

substandard
The program wouldn't update and wouldn't allow me to NetFile.
Contacting a live person from TurboTax is a nightmare.
The program should be tested much more before being sent out to retailers.

Good, but issue with saving
I have been using Turbotax for years and would have previously given it a stronger rating. However, this year it did not save my returns properly when I chose the option to save a PDF copy. I now have no copies of my kids' returns as I didn't print them and had already filed. I had not yet filed mine and my husband's so did ours over and printed before filing. Not happy about the saving issue this year - never happened other years. They better get it fixed. In the meantime, if you plan to use this software, watch closely where it is supposedly saving your files and double-check with your Windows File Explorer they are there (with a file size other than 0), and/or print them !

Falling behind
I started my tax return with the online version and was very disappointed when I couldn't transfer my work to the desktop version. I found the online experience much better and it is obvious that Intuit is not looking to keep up the quality of the desktop version.

Windows 7 Support and unnecessary Warnings
Turbo Tax chose not to develop Windows 7 compatible software. Several thousand people like me continue to use Windows 7 and do not intend to change to Windows 10. Instead of spending money on developing (or at least testing the compatibility), Intuit chose an easy way out, by repeatedly warning customers of un-tested potential malware / virus attacks. By the way, the software worked perfectly fine with no issues whatsoever. If Win 7 compatible Turbo Tax is not available for year 2020, then I will find a different vendor that supports Windows 7.

OK with some issues
1. Printing and saving the PDF of the return at the end when you are doing a self and spouse return is confusing. TubroTax seems to get mixed up as to which return is to be saved.
2. On the T3 data entry for Box 25 it forces you to enter a country of origin (USA, Country 2, or Country 3) that seems to be somewhat meaningless when the income is from multiple countries. Seems to be a bug. Did not have the issue with TurboTax 2018.

Update issues
When the product was 1st installed and for many days thereafter, irrelevant errors would pop-up every time when trying to do updates. Even a call to Inuit proved fruitless. Let several weeks later those update errors "disappeared". Clearly an Intuit error. Poor coding which took Intuit several weeks to resolve. Never saw this type of error in previous versions (years) of purchasing and using the product. Clearly quality control and customer service for the 2019 year Turbotax product was sadly lacking. Not sure I'll return to the Turbotax product next year.

Gets harder to use each year
Thank goodness I know what I'm doing, because the dialogue certainly doesn't make it easy or straightforward. It is so easy to lose your place in the process and skip a step (especially if you are filing in Quebec). I don't know why you feel the need to hide the actual forms away and use the "quick" dialogue instead. And oh don't get me started on the upselling attempts! Probably the only reason I keep using it is that I have been doing so for a few years, but each year I say, "This will be the last!"

good but forgetful
I do not know why but the software did not remember my settings from my previous year(s) I had to re-enter some standard settings. I also had to jump around to fill in some forms that the auto tool forgot to include could have cost me $2000 or worse... an audit. Needs some tweaking.

Difficult to adjust errors
This year after using Turbo Tax for over 8 years, I found it more difficult to use. I thought as you retire, things would get easier for filing but apparently some entry is preventing me from filing online, and that is very frustrating.

Product Gliches
I have used Turbo Tax for years and had always been very happy until now. The 2019 program has a couple of serious flaws. Although I qualify for a 50% reduction on my US Social Security pension, there was no way to deduct it. Also, the program insisted on calculating CPP on my self-employment income although I am over 70 years of age. I would think both were simple fixes but were very frustrating to try to use.

Okay for standard use...
This program is okay for standard use but trying to use for self employment/ farming not straight forward. Trying to over ride the restricted farm loss was impossible. The information was scarce, asked questions with no good answers. This info should be more readily available or able to call and ask without charging more money. Needs to be improved!!

Some reservations
This is my first time filing my own taxes in some timed. My life is generally simpler now. I was dismayed that this program did not ask me about my charitable donations or my medical expenses as I worked my way through. Happily, I was aware that these would be helpful in reducing my tax owing and I did a search for them, Otherwise, everything was pretty straightforward.
