Quality going downhill
Been using this program since it came onto the market and this year was the hardest to complete taxes with. Help didn't really help at all so I had to go to google or the CRA for the info. I thought the turbotax help was supposed to be question specific and steer me to answers right away. The warnings and exploring buttons didn't really make it easy to edit what they were trying to say were mistakes or unnecessary contributions that could be carried forward to another year and doing those edits forced one to go back in the return to the beginning of a section and then "continue" your way to what needed doing. The optimizer functions for medical receipts did not work in the way the RRSP contribution slider does so to find out how many receipts you could carry forward to next year you had to actually remove them a few at a time and then each time check with the end of the summary section and go through all the tips and warnings until the advice "you have extra receipts that you can carry forward to next year" disappeared. Not much of an optimizer!

Better than paper.
If your return is linked to your spouse's, you will have to re-run the optimize steps several times, as changes in one step may affect other calculations. Charity donations optimizer does not split donations between spouses - at all. I was forced to manually enter amounts to share, until I arrived at the maximum rebate - at least it beats doing this on paper.

I find that TurboTax, using the step-by-step approach is straight forward and relatively easy to use, albeit very arduous.

Stops responding
Too often through the review process the application stops responding and I have to wait for it to catch up, very irritating.

Glitchy this year
I love this program and have used it for years, but this year there are glitches in it that are very irritating. When entering info into the T1 form manually, you don't see what you entered in the box, but after you've moved on, it shows up at some later point. It leaves me wondering how accurate the program is this year. It's not giving me much confidence in a product I usually rave about.

Quality Continues to decline for advanced users
TurboTax used to be a great product, but for those like myself who like to enter things manually, more and more fields appear to be broken unless you use the "Easy Forms" wizard. Having to scroll through 25 screens just to enter a single value (line 47600 for the 2019 tax year) does not induce a good user experience and leads to frustration.

Statement of Investment Income
T5 Investment Income section and the subsequent section for Statement of Investment Income duplicate themselves for some reason with no clear explanation as to why this information should be entered twice. By entering the information twice, taxable income appears to be counted twice raising the amount of tax owed ????

Still poorly written
This used to be really good software.
But now the function to carry over last years forms really means carry over the forms that TT thinks you need not what you actually used. Forcing you to go back to your previous years taxes and checking to see if you have all the forms
Autofill is great for basic taxes thats about it.
Turbo tax help isn't helpful, google is way better

T4A forms
The form that comes up is NOT the proper form for T4A(P) or T4A(OAS)-had to use the "forms" to enter amounts. Under the "Summary" section "No T4A entered" comes up, but in the Total Income Summary both Pension totals are listed. In 2018 you were able to click/chose the proper T4A forms - I don't understand why this was changed for 2019 - makes no sense to me - NOT HELPFUL AT ALL!!!! Hopefully you change it back for 2020!

Has issues. Too expensive.
I was very worried when TurboTax decided to SKIP(HIDE/GLOSS-OVER) the charitable donations entry.
Took me much time to find it manually.
FIX THIS. LOTS OF MONEY AT STAKE!!!
ALSO - should sell a cheaper version which permits only 1 or 2 filings. Much better for retirees.

Quick, easy and convenient as it has been for several years. The one annoying part is the "Warnings" section at the end. Numerous warnings that do not apply in any way, and should not have appeared based on the initial interview section at start. Even a warning on disability claim saying I had requested disability deduction, when all related questions were answered "No".

Problems
(1) Union dues on Federal are still being doubled by program; user must input half of the amount to be correct.
(2) Federal Table to go to pages 1 to 6; shows only 1 to 4, line number input on table does not accept 5 digits

Confusing
I found the download from CRA was incomplete. Not only were some tax slips missing, but also no deducted taxes were downloaded. I had to go back and enter them manually. What good is the download if I have to go back and enter the taxes deducted.

I found it confusing when doing my partners return at the same time as it did not always indicate who was being ask the required information.
Also I had bought the online version only to find out if you had done it with CD/download version you could not import last years return. So I had return and by another version. They should state this on the box.

deceased person's return has issues
There was a flaw in the return for a deceased person relating to the information in Schedule 3. It wanted an adjusted cost base amount, which is not required for a principal residence owned and lived in 100, and it did not like a purchase year prior to 1982. I had to call Revenue Canada to assist with these forms.

Easy step sometimes harder than Forms
The easy-step way of entering foreign income is harder than the forms way as it has insufficient instructions and definitions (e.g. is exchange rate is buy or sell rate?) Very difficult to tell what the program wants. Detailed tax summary shows US Soc Sec deduction as Northern Residents allowance!!..Cannot print summary!

Not that intuitive
Pro's: easy step works well
Con's: on start up no directions on how to download previous years info. Help would not work for this because of some computer process lock out. Phoned help line could not bet through. So deleted everything and started over twice. By chance on start up noticed there was more info if you scrolled down and there is the option to download last years info, not intuitive at all. Should been a continue tab to take you to that screen.

PLEASE - LESS PAPER!
The "DO NOT MAIL" printed version of my return took about 40 pages of paper. REALLY? Do I need to see/print pages that have ZEROES throughout? Or pages that have my name and SIN ONLY??????!!!! And the "check for errors" page said I hadn't entered CPP income - BECAUSE I HAD NONE!!!! And why can't I close a form that I have finished reviewing???? This software has gone from OK to crap in the past five years....

The lower income spouse has no room for non refundable tax credits i.e. allowable medical expenses. Why does turbotax insist on optimizing by having lower income spouse claim the expenses? This would result in more taxes owing. I had to overwrite it manually. You may want to take a look for possible correction.

Every year more issues
I've used Turbotax for several years now and each year there seems to be more bugs and glitches. This year I had a couple including having to completely uninstall and reinstall the application. It's easy to use and easy to file so I will likely give it another chance next tax season but it's getting harder and harder to remain loyal.....

It asks questions that don't need to be added ie, did you pay into RRSP. Another one was dispose of a property. It asks you this in the profile and then again during the taxes. Also, the splitting of pension income shouldn't be under "review". Shouldn't it be under income for the person who is getting it?
