Good but not great
The packaging is not clear as to which product you are buying in the boxed version.
I wanted the version with CD and/or to download and install. But it turns out to have been the on-line version.
The package did say on-line, but it wasn't clear if it was ONLY on-line or if that was an "option."
So it did not include the "Installation Key."
I was able to finally get through to support, after a 40-minute wait.
The Agent was excellent and was able to get an installation key for me.
So I was finally able to install it on my local computer.
I DON'T AND WILL NEVER ALLOW ANY CLOUD-BASED system with my personal tax info! NOPE!
Intuit should make packaging much more clearer as even the agent confirmed that this has been a huge problem for months.
Perhaps Intuit should just include the purchase code for cloud based as well as the installation key, all in one package which should be very clearly laid out.

Yellow brick road
Good title. The road can be blurry.
The disability option is clumsy. The charitable option is clumsy. The warnings were not valid.
The RIF road needs to be connected. We like some of the new stuff. Your list to tell others about self is mostly irrelevant.

Random misleading questions
I got random misleading question on Ontario tax "CARE" with double negatives that lowered my return. Not sure if this why a tax credit would negatively impact your return.
Very buggy, and might consider moving to something else for the price.

Turbo Tax
Something wrong with the program this year - tells you you did this and that, when I didn't do this or that. Makes recommendations for deductions, which actually reduces your refund.
Very frustrating to say the least. I would not recommend it to anyone this year, and I certainly will not be using it to complete my 2020 tax return.

Too many errors this 2019
I experience some issues with the software this year 2019. Impossible to update the software from the Help menu. Uninstall and Reinstall the software.

It's Been Better
I have used Turbo Tax since 2011 with no problems until this year. It has been very time consuming to get updates and I am not 100% sure that when I net filed that that it was up to date this process has deteriorated significantly this year.
Is it because they are offering free filing for basic returns on line?

Installing from DVD Problematic
I have used TurboTax for many years, and its predecessor, QuickTax for many years before that. Never have I ever had problems installing from the CD/DVD, until this year. After multiple unsuccessful attempts and burning up two hours of my life, I finally downloaded the program from the web site and used the activation code on the envelope that came with the DVD. Suggest they quit sending DVD and just send download instructions. Once installed, works like a charm.

Irritating to use
Does not always make it easy to find the form/pages you need to fill in. Once you have filed, it will not let you print a copy for your own records that does not have a watermark on the page that say "Duplate - Do not send by mail".
If filing early, does not let us use Netfile until 6:am on 24 Feb, but does not tell you that. Just refuses to let you use the option of e-filing, so you are forced to mail it in.
I have used TurboTax for several years and always find it somewhat frustrating to use. Let, alone have my 90 year old mother try to figure it out.

Not totally happy
Turbotax has always been simple and straightforward to use. This year for some reason, it couldnt find my past tax records on CRA, told me I had not filed for the past 4 years (I know I have and can see them on the CRA website). It wouldnt let me netfile (no idea why, always have in the past), so now have to print and send my return by mail. Not quite as convenient as I had expected

Not impressed
I have used Turbo Tax for more than 10 years. I have never had a return ever state that I have to mail a return without cause. No a return must be mailed and I am not impressed.

paid and disapointed
first -did not say on packaging that this unit could not be used for a deceased person.
second-when it asks if you have or had foreign property and you check no it ignores you and fills out alot of crap.
third -it asks marital stat on a dead person at the end of the year,he has no stat.he is dead.
fourth-would not give the care givers amount for spouse.

Usually ok
I've use Turbo Tax Standard for a few years now and had no real issues. Today I tried to complete a simple return and it took me 5 hours. The software continually froze and I was forced to quit and reset each time. I was not impressed.

Still has issues
It is October 2019 and Turbotax still has bugs. I am sending in my brother's return and the software insists on including the primary residence forms. But he does not own a house. I checked the support website and it is a known issue as of Oct 31 2019. Disappointed that the problem is not fixed. Also, the Climate Action grant would not work until I reset the forms. Very odd. Not the most reliable software. You need to go through the result with a fine tooth comb to make sure they software did not screw up. Not very reassuring.

Not as simple to use as 2017
Last year I used TT and thought it was pretty simple to use... intuitive, organized with a plug and play type of environment that asked simple questions to get maximum refunds without feeling insecure. The 2018 version, however, felt the opposite. So next year I will go back to using an accountant!

PROBLEMS THIS YEAR
Have been using turbo tax for years with no problems. This year I can't print to the printer from turbo tax. I can save a pdf and then print from that, I can netfile, but I can't print a copy to send to CRA and can't print a copy for myself. For some reason this year TT switches my printer into send fax mode. Last year was fine, same printer. Going thru the reports and will file problem with support. However right now I'm stuck. will update when and if the problem is solved.

Turbo Tax Review
Even with Turbo Tax you have to have an idea about Income Tax to complete using this software. With Turbo Tax doing calculations behind the scene, you lose track of the understanding of the tax system that you gained when you manually completed a paper copy and did your own calculations. You'll still run into complications doing taxes online with Turbo Tax. Glitch in Turbo Tax Software (Error TT400 - would not save) when completing 2018 taxes in June 2019 resulted in entire tax, just completed, being lost and having to redo. It was a Turbo Tax software issue - very frustrating. Tried on 2 computers, with actual purchased disk and from a download so know it was a Turbo Tax software issue. Online recommendations from Turbo Tax did not work - help line closed for the day. Next day it worked, but had to start over.
