What a hassle this year
Normally Turbo Tax is decent, reliable, and quick. Not this year. Last year(in 2018) I accidentally purchased the online 2017 version and had no problem transferring/carrying forward info needed from 2016(downloaded) to 2017(online). The online version was tedious and not very user friendly as I had to sign in every time I made changes, but the job was eventually done. This year I made sure to purchase the correct, downloadable version. Unfortunately, Turbo Tax does not have the capability to transfer from the online version back to download, so I had to re-enter all our info and carry forwards from scratch. This was time consuming and frustrating, when I knew that our info was "out there" somewhere. This is 2019, you'd think the technology would exist. Better get your programmers to work on that!

2019 really poor version
I've used turbotax for many years and it has always been intuitive and flawless in its recommendations and execution in completing our tax returns. So, what happened to the 2019 version? Says it requires and update but will not update so I cannot submit my return then gives a broken link to turbotax.ca/support for the update. Buggy errors on various pages rounds out the worst version of this software I've ever used. Whatever they tried to improve should be reversed as previous versions have always been a pleasure to use.

It's ok but generally frustrating
I have ongoing health issues but do not have the certificate for the disability tax credit. I answered the questions truthfully and Turbotax still automatically applied the disability credit. I do not want it applied and there is no way to remove it. Frustrating as now I will have to contact the CRA to amend my return.

BIT DISAPPOINED
Re: 2018 Turbo Tax Standard
I would like to add that this is a great product and I should know as I have been using it for past ten years or so. But the 2018 has not improved. On several occasions I have seen the summary is indicating different amounts than the Return(s) - There are other similar programs, some even free and less expensive and these have similar or even better features. Loyal customers don't complaint much but do expect a finer product than the competition within that price bracket. Overall, I will keep using this product and hope it will be much better in 2019. Thank you

Could be better
Doesn't automatically transfer tuition credit amount - it has to be done manually. It also doesn't optimize which return the credit should go to. The option to save your return is greyed out throughout much of the process. There is no easy way to print your true return (not the forms) to a PDF. You have to print from the same machine on which you installed TurboTax - but you're kinda pouched if that machine isn't connected to a printer.
Grabbing to existing documents from CRA worked well for preparing Final Return as well as my own.

Getting tired of the marketing
After I finish submitting and the endless reminders to save the file. I save it and don't want to do anything else, I end up in an endless easy step loop back to the "revisit" page of file returns.
The help option continues to be useless and I continue to use google to answer TurboTax questions.

Too much uneccessary info
I wouldnt consider this the "Standard " version There is a lot of info and categories which should be in the Professional version. Too difficult to go back and change anything. This was my 1st experience with TT. I'll try another one next year.

Feature rich but Navigation Poor
Too many features, which on its own is great but the program doesn't allow you to bypass them easily and you often end up stuck in a loop of continue buttons.

The hardest was knowing I saw it and getting back to it. I think I entered most 2 times because I could not check back to see if I did it. I think they hurt my feelings enough this time I will not use them next year. Plus my idea of Basic and there's is Bull.

Gets the job done, but ...
While the interview style of TurboTax and the ability to import past returns make preparation somewhat easy, there are several irritating features to the software. The repeated attempts to upsell to Premium when even a simple T5 is indicated is really annoying. The Standard edition works fine for basic investments, so TurboTax shouldn't try to take advantage of less knowledgeable people by selling them an upgrade they don't need. It is also irritating to have to answer questions both in the interview section and later when entering information. Then the tips and warnings are very general, not customized to the information entered, so often don't apply at all. For instance, the RRSP wizard should pick up from the taxpayer age and spouse age that they are not eligible for contributions. I don't trust the optimizers, as I discovered a situation where I could increase the refund by manually adjusting. The medical optimizer should not default ot the lower income earner, it should compare the impact of both taxpayers claiming the medical expenses and recommend which one should claim them. For less knowledgeable taxpayers who trust the optimizer, this could cost them several hundred dollars.

This product was not very user friendly. It didn't follow through sequentially for both tax returns. It added info that I did not indicate was needed and I had to go back and take it out.

A bit frustrated about 2 items:
1) Autofill feature did not populate all fields that appeared on hardcopy of the T-slip.
2) Easy Step opened one screen to populate on Investment Income which seemed irrelevant as all Income had already been entered via T-slip screens. This caused some confusion about the process.

I think this would be a lot better if it allowed you to find your previous tax returns through the online software so that all benefits can continue to be forwarded by the exact same software for life, rather than having to create a new profile every time on the cd version. It should give you the option of signing into your online account so you already have all your info there.

All information was entered correctly, but error was not corrected. I called help number and it was still not rectified. Obviously an error somewhere behind the scenes. Had to print and mail return. Not very impressed with this as in 2017 there was no error for exactly the same entries.

Tax Prep Letdown
This program is great for very simple tax returns, such as only T4 and investment income. I used the "forms" option to prepare the returns. I found the medical expense optimizer did not work and I would have lost $22 if I had followed the recommendation. The optimizer may maximize the medical expense credit but that does not necessarily mean the highest refund, depending on the tax rate payable for each spouse, as I found out. The program automatically applies RRSP contribution carry forwards when it would be advantageous to continue to carry it forward, but if you didn't know to look specifically at that and manually elect to carry forward the existing contribution, you would lose out. Many forms that have nothing to do with your tax situation are open for some unfathomable reason. The INFOWS section defaults meals expenses as originating outside Canada. If the user didn't notice this, there is potential to lose other credits that you may be entitled to. If your tax return is simple, the program is reliable. I realize that more experience is recommended to use the "forms" method, however feel that there is so much more that should be built in to give maximum benefit when using this method. If the return is at all complicated, you need to know something about tax preparation to get the maximum refund you are entitled to. That makes me wonder what else I might be missing and question the reliability of the program. Any program fault that I detected was to the benefit of CRA, which is $ out of your pocket. Turbo Tax gives a maximum refund guarantee which gives confidence to the user, but it is hard to miss what you don't know you are entitled to. When filing a printed return, the Tax Return Enclosures List says to file the ONS14 form with the return, however does not print it out. You have to manually print the form. I imagine that not a lot of people look at that as one would expect something as fundamental as printing a complete return for mailing is a given. I found that using the "help" function did not answer my questions and I went to the CRA site for answers. Overall, I am pretty disappointed with turbo tax this year.

Need significant improvement in your on-line help. When a user clicks on 'help' in a particular screen, the app should bring up contextual based help i.e. help on that specified screen / form listing info for the relevant fields.
Rather, it just brings up a generic / useless help index.

Same old program
not much changes they ask yes no questions that start with did not, doesn't look at last years medical expenses and optimize appropriately, asks me the same tips re property tax credits for both taxpayers instead of optimizing if possible, overall less expensive than an accountant for a simple return but annoying to use because nothing ever seems to improve.

Cannot book mark during the profile section. Didn't warn me to save. because of interruptions I had to re-enter profile 5 times .
Encountered an error during download of T4 info from CRA and because my file wasn't saved already, had to start completely over again because turbotax froze up.
These things made it take much longer to file. ugh.

Not That Great
The disk would not work in the computer, I had to download the electronic version and it seemed to have some glitches that I could not fix. I just submitted my taxes anyways and the CRA will most likely correct it if its wrong.

Bugs
First, reinstalling with a different license key took me too long with support since it's not a matter of reinstalling.
Finally, at the end getting error TT401, so I just wasted a whole bunch more hours.
This was supposed to save me time over the old forms, but this was not the year.

Ok, but buggy
I've used TurboTax (standard) for years. The product does an acceptable job, however every year I run into some issue or other (this year, TT decided to stop knowing how to save my tax file 3/4 of the way through completing taxes -I had to basically start from scratch). This, combined with UI glitches like excessively tiny fonts and menus on 4k screens, and information hyperlinks (tax terms, etc) that redirect nowhere, leads me to give this product a 'meh' rating.
