When you click on something that you need further explanation or want to explore, a drop down box pops up. When you are finished reading it there is no way to close it except to go out of the program and come back in. It is very annoying. Also, even when checking "No" to something, and also indicating you want any blank forms closed, when you print out your return you get pages of forms that don't apply and are blank. Also very frustrating and wasteful.

There are a few things that ned improving. When I enter employment on the T1, the figure does not get populated in the RL-1 form for Quebec. Also the titles of different financial institutions do not get populated in the Quebec forms. Some definitions are confusing which have caused me to send the Netfile to Quebec containing a big mistake.

I am human. Taxes are not my passion 365/24/7. I speak English, not acronym. Is the program simple? For whom? If it is intended for average user then follow how an average user would understand. It does eventually get the job done but it used to be a lot faster with just paper to fill out!

I've used the Standard edition for several years and it's always been able to calculate my capital cost allowance used for freelance income. This latest version couldn't. I've been told to buy the next edition up which is more than twice the price. That's disappointing.

Greatest value is the peace of mind "Checkout for Audit Defence"; it nice to have this available where an expert can defend your tax filing. T1135 cannot add rows is a missing feature. Some explanations are lacking. IT would be nice to get an explanation to terminology just by right click. the forms move when we change to other windows; we need to scroll back to find the locations. Display changes when we try to snip; this needs to be fixed. GST number is not required for individuals renting apartments. Make that change.

I've been using turbotax (previously quicktax) for about a decade. Sadly, this year the software seemed to have issues (started right off with not being able to update the software - I had to do so manually). In addition, there was more than one instance where you clicked on a concept for the definition and all it did was 'check' the corresponding box. Not certain what is going on product development-wise, but this is the first time I was unimpressed with the product. Sincerely hope that QA isn't going to the wayside.

I am happy with both your product and the customer service I have received, however am very dissatisfied with the packaging which is quite misleading as it states how many returns can be filed but NO WHERE states the number of computers that can be used to file those returns before the IKC becomes invalid. This resulted in my wasting several hours this year when trying to file my taxes (between needing to repeat the entry of both my and my spouse's returns 3 times and the several hours I spent on the phone with your customer service).

The product has not been significantly enhanced for eons. Need a summary page of all input to easily match the data typed in. The questionnaire is labourious Navigation thru the forms has not changed and still uses unconventional keys F10 to print vs. CTRL P doe snot work. Form reference should include the title. The suggestions and questions in review and E file should remember the answer and not re ask. Always asks for the AUTO FILL, should be a option to be selected and remembered. I think no development is being done because Intuit expects to go 100% on line .

It could not be updated after installation, and it did not work when I clicked HELP icon. Then, I had to look at the internet and find some tips by using an manual update, but I am not sure if that worked.

When accessing the CRA MyAccount site from the program, the program will hang if the CRA does not respond as expected. There is no recovery, the program has to be terminated. Any recent changes are lost. There should be a way to abort the session with the CRA without terminating the turbotax process.

I've been using EasyStep for over 15 years... it seems really dated and needs a significant makeover to improve the UI and simplify data entry. The UI in general is awful, Menu Bar looks like its from Windows 95. Screen and text colours are terrible with low contrast and makes everything really difficult to read. The contrast adjustment feature doesn't help. Seriously, this software is long overdue a UI update to make it more friendly and easy to rea on the screen.

my daughter did her taxes on this program and when she came back to enter some missing info the program kept asking for the key code to be entered,I was told the number was in valid. I call customer service and talk to a rep for 1 hour and received a new key code because my key was only valid in Quebec, I am in Alberta and bought the program at Costco, unfortunately the key that was e-mailed to me was 2 numbers short, so I had to call in again and spend another 40 minutes to get another key code

Could get better, the help line is not good at all, it is automated and is not a live person, which the software gives you the the impression that it is a real person. The software is user friendly , but you must have some knowledge of taxes to use.

The program runs around in circles without taking you to the page where the error is so that it can be corrected. Seniors property taxes credit still came up as an error if the selection was "unchecked". It had to be fixed in the form.

Turbo Tax does a pretty good job with tax returns, but there are still some issues. 1) When connecting to your CRA Account, if you are unable to sign on correctly, Turbo Tax just hangs waiting for the connection, so you have to abort the program and restart it. You can also connect to your CRA Account through Service Canada, but Turbo Tax does not provide this as an option. 2) Cost - it would be nice if the basic version had more features - like bringing forward info from previous years. I do not need the ability to complete 5 returns, but I have to pay for a standard version regardless. Maybe a cheaper version for filing only two returns or perhaps a version more specific for the needs of seniors.

The only reason I continue to use this frustratingly bug-ridden program is for the carry over data from year to year, but this product has become inexcusibly difficult to use, made especially infuriatng that the same bugs persist year after year with no effort by Intuit to fix them.
For example. Registration – forced to manually input all the data again even though you already know it from multiple prior versions.
What happened to transfer data from a prior year’s return?! You put it below the fold so users can’t see it? That’s a pretty fundamental usability flaw.
Forcing the date field into the totally unnatural format instead of free form or the proper YYYY-MM-DD format.
Form T 5013 is still flawed. No explanation of why Boxes 113 or 132 or 134 are missing from your form and you reject perfectly accurate and legitimate Partner percentages (maybe because it’s a small number but that should have been fixed long ago).
Then you refuse to let me leave the page because your form is broken unless I put in a false number. It’s crazy.
Constantly sticking the Turbo Upgrade in face for a few seconds and in every return after I’ve said I don’t want it. That’s really obnoxious.
The stupid constant non-stop pop up of Auto Fill My Return every single frickin’ time I open the file, that there appears to be no way to get rid of.
A capital gains worksheet that forces only 1 input year when it is frequently 2 or more.
And this is a huge sin – the really bizarre stunt where if you share a T5 or T3 with someone other than your spouse and enter the share that is yours TurboTax wrongly, AND WITHOUT TELLING YOU SO YOU ARE TRICKED INTO PAYING UNNECESSARY TAX, puts the remaining percentage on the spouse’s return. That’s crazy. Unless you get really lucky or deliberately go hunting for it you can’t find it and end up reporting income you didn’t incur.
Not copying over text if it violates TT’s hidden max data entry points so you don’t even know you’re submitting a return with blank entries (e.g. proper names for stocks).
Horrible navigation at the end that blows you right past the NetFile so you have to go back and look for it.
The only two options for CRA online mail is Yes divert me or no I’m not ready. But what about “I’m already using it?????”
Then you tell me I’m ready to file, AFTER I’ve already filed??? You repeatedly tell me the file’s been modified even though it hasn’t.
And form T1229 is really a disaster – there’s no menu driven way to access it. Resource companies record their royalties with a T3 (we aren’t given T101s) yet you don’t allow any way to then claim the resource property deduction unless the user knows Turbo Tax doesn’t work and to bypass the Easy Step and fill in T1229 themselves. That’s crazy.
Arbitrary truncation of descriptive data even though the fields have ample room (for example medical expenses).
It infuriatingly locks you up on the Tax on Split Income page even though it is not being used for anything on my return and prevented me from moving elsewhere in the return.
Almost impossible to find the Carrying Charges link to enter SDBox fees – again the form just locks up.
No help desk.
When you ask a question to the community you are forced into too few characters to properly explain the issue. And if there are no answers available you’re left stranded.
Constantly changes the selected allocation of medical expenses no matter how many times you correct it.
The CRA “is phasing out mailing checks by April 2016” That message clearly needs to be updated.
It’s good you’re soliciting feedback – please act on it.

TT did not automatically upload my data from previous years TT filings. It also did not prompt me through US Retirement Income or forms for old age and disability in an easily understood way. Medical expenses should also come up automatically based on previous year's filings.

I found the help menu quite unhelpful. One has to know the exact term to get information. My and my wife's tax situation had changed from last year and I didn't find the new information I needed on the help menu. I would have appreciated a second chance to choose to create my and my wife's tax return at the same time, even after she had ticked the box that determined that the tax returns would be created separately. Even starting all over again did not bring back that particular dialog screen! Finally, general information in the help menu about transferring the personal allowance of one spouse to the other, and what happens to the personal allowance of the low income spouse would have been helpful.
