updates do not work

Apprentice Claims
Not impressed with the EASYSTEP for apprentice claim for tools. It was not helpful on how to fill out the easystep - what amounts to enter. Had to contact Intuit and they did not know either - quite disappointing!

Difficult to use
I found the program unusually difficult to use compared with prior years. Difficult to get to special parts of the program such as pension splitting etc.

where am I
There are many instances where I clicked on a button to review an item and after completion was not able to return to my start location easily. Case in point, as I write this review, it is not clear how to return to where I was when I clicked on the review button.

Disappointed Product Change
2018 didn't populate returns with last year's info. New 2018 return files were sent to the program files folder and not My Documents unlike in the past.

weird survey
I wanted to give feedback but you ask for way too much info about myself. I don't want to give you this feedback to aid in your marketing, I just want to give you feedback about my experience.
Why did it think I had sold my primary residence, I made no indication of this?
I thought it was odd that you gave me warnings for things that did not apply to me.

Would love to see text the size of this survey in the TurboTax application.

I was disappointed with the program this year.
1. I was not able to pull in information from previous years for returns I had done those years - name, SI, address all had to entered manually. Took twice as long to do returns as in previous years.
2. doing spouse returns side by side, rather than one by one, is confusing

Gets Worse Every Year
This version of Turbo Tax has 'glitches' that make the tax prep process confusing. I have been using tax software since it first became available and every year more irrelevant info is displayed than the year before. When I complete my profile at the beginning I expect that this process will select only the forms/questions relevant to my situation, but this is not the case. Irrelevant info continues to be displayed when it is not necessary. Also, the carry forward feature that is supposed to save data entry time is incomplete. Information does have to be entered again. Please do better in the future.

need to improve
number of improvements needed.
1) your optimization does not necessarily work well for prescription credit claims.
2) student fee transfer to parents is very confusing, something that should be very simple.
3) your review, warning, tips for saving is very annoying, keeps on coming to your face as one is trying to move on with it.
4) dependents' age should be considered in processing and summaries. An 85 year-old dependent mother comes out under "kid"?!
5) your search function is not linked to "tax guideline" if one needs to know more than what you are providing as information.
6) your price was higher than what I paid at Costco, so why have I registered with you to get my copy on the web with auto charge on my credit card?!

2018 turbo review
a couple of upgrades arrived too late for me.
also I would like to page through the return rather than search each page individually.
I am not a rookie but still found the process unwieldy. information could be entered in a user friendly mode rather than the detailed schedules and forms provided.

federal vs quebc
I find some areas confusing when one enters info. I have entered income in duplicate and also taxes deducted. Not very clear but with patience and some give and take I figure it out. It could be made more user friendly.

not overly impressed this year
Encountered a TT401 error code early in the data entry process, I followed some of the online remedies to the problem, that never worked for me. I sort of found a way to work around it. Although, I was able to Netfile my income tax, I am still having problems saving my files. I have the feeling that this error followed me all along. I certainly do not think that this year TT was user friendly, I had better results in the past.

Problematic
It is unknown whether problems experienced are Windows 10 or TurboTax related. I could not get TurboTax to update after installing from CD. Error message would be indicated whenever the program was opened. It would appear it could not communicate with TurboTax web server. I managed to get an update file to manually update but that too was a problem since Windows would not allow to open the exe file. Problems were also encountered toward the end when filing. TurboTax would stop responding and then would return.

Mediocre
This is my fourth, and probably final, year of using TurboTax. While it "seems" adequate (I'm not a tax pro, so I can't say "is adequate"), it certainly has issues. For example, one of its last screens, where you get your confirmation number for filing with CRA, it ends with a caution to print or save your return for your records, and proceeds to offer you two options: "Print your" and "Print". Pardon me??? Another example: on the page for refundable credits in my return, it lists one credit after another, each with a zero entry, and then totals them up to $231.00. I hope CRA don't ask ME to explain that one! (I've done the return twice, start to finish, and it did the same thing both times, so I'm just hoping that they are not getting me into trouble.)

Good software with reservations
Overall I am happy with the software however I do have the following comments. The software did not allow me to say Yes or No to line 490 (page 4 of T1). I sent a query to Turbo Tax but still have not received a response.
Could make data entry easier by anticipating entries base on previous entries e.g. donations and medical expenses and dividend tax credits.
Would like to see less paper printed out. For example the TOSI - 7 pages but did not apply to me.

Huge waste of paper. even though I ask it to close unused forms it still prints everything - 80% of which is a waste of paper and printer ink. Please fix this!!!!

Frustrated
It is hard to close the pages that you no longer need. It prints way too many pieces of paper that are not necessary. Can be cumbersume to work through the details at times.

still can't print the summary
Year after year - I ask for the capability to simply print the year/year or spouse/spouse summary charts - but nothing changes - so i have to use my phone to capture those really useful screens or use the sniping tool - and then load into pptx - why? It is my data why can't I print that summary page?

My major complaint is that is seems that when you import T3, T5 slips for investments, Turbo Tax can not enter the data for my spouse based on the percentages I assign. I have to re-enter the data for her after I have imported mine.

Please, more lines on the T1135
Why are the lines on the T1135 limited to only 3 lines? what if I have more than three lines? I find out that I have to print off a form from the CRA website and file through the mail. What a pain. Please TurboTax, how hard it is to allow us to enter more than three lines on the T1135. Come on, make life easy, not harder.

Turbo Tax for 2019 has become more complicated to set up and use. Leaning toward only the computer literate. No longer simple to use. I am not sure if set up and registration was done correct so updates are questionable.

Lots of wasted toner and paper
Even though I checked off I don't want useless and empty forms, a multitude were printed for my own copy of the 2018 tax return (e.g principal res (I don't have one - live at home!) and split Income which I confirmed didn't apply or reflect appropriate calculations). Why don't the investment and medical expense worksheets, which are very useful for record keeping, print instead?? .

Time wasted
T5008 forms may be duplicating information already entered. You must add a simple way of deleting these forms from the return.
In the review section, many suggestions refer to information that is already in the return.
These factors waste time.

I wanted to deduct for:
(a) bathroom modifications for accessibility/safety
(b) fees for investment advisor
(c) union fees to professional society

Good but . . .
Some new this year that is a total pain: Any new window opened in the program opens on the primary monitor, even when the main program is on a secondary monitor. In the event the secondary monitor is much larger than the primary, it is possible to set zoom settings such that close buttons are off the visible screen. Depending on the window, that freezes the entire app.

a necessary evil
TurboTax used to pick up information from previous years; it appears to do so no longer. Some of the information is confusing and results in opening the wrong forms. It also persists in giving the same warning over and over again, and No, we did not sell our home. (Is it trying to tell us something?)
