First year Unhappy with Turbotax
I have used Turbotax for a number of years and this is the first year I have had issues. The Climate Incentive rebate does not calculate unless I used the simplified method of tax preparation. Even though I had filled in all the boxes it still would not calculate the rebate.

Slow and loopy
I had to wait several seconds many times for what I entered to process. When I did one return, the software kept looping at the end and I couldn't find a way to cleanly exit the return.

Riddled with Flaws
Very convenient if you do not make a mistake. Make a mistake (ie create an override) and it cannot be corrected. You have to start all over again. Telephone numbers have to be reentered at the beginning. The format of the carry-over data creates an error. Took a long time to figure out how to format the umber (only numbers - no brackets, not dashes)

Very frustrating installation
I have used Turbotax for many years without any problems installing and or updating. However this 2018 tax year was a constant problem with little useful troubleshooting guideline or help. I finally gave up on my PC when it asked me to uninstall and reinstall after a filed update. I was finally successful in getting it done on my laptop.More access to help is required along with better proactive instructions.

need to simplify
First time using capital gains and found it extremely difficult to complete using T5008. Explanations did not help.

Medical expense form
This form require "manual" entry of the 12 month period selected for claiming these expenses. The format shown is dd/mm/yyyy. The system beeps when data is entered in this format, but it allows the entry to be completed. However, when this is done, TT removes many expenses from the claim. Only when the date is entered as ddmmyyyy is the information correct. Easy to make a mistake here.

mixed review
I am still waiting for a problem to be resolved from 10 days ago, with much frustration and time on the phone.
I discovered the send to excel function of the reports and am thrilled.
My answer about recommendation is actually MAYBE but that is not an available option on this survey.

A Problem That Needs to be Fixed
I have used TurboTax for many years. Last year, for the first time, I decided to use the online version but went back to the desktop version for 2018. Really upset to discover that I was unable to transfer 2017 online information to 2018 desktop version (no problem transferring desktop info to online version). Equally upsetting is not be warned in advance of downloading online version that this would be the case. This is unacceptable and needs to be corrected for coming.years. Had I known this would have happened, I would not have used online version in 2017!!

SURPRISE restriction
This software has been restricted to only 3 computers. You can still do 8 returns but there is a surprise software restriction added this year to limit how many computers you can use. Imagine having a kid at university in Calgary, another in Toronto and a third in Halifax. Now try to do your taxes in Ottawa. CLANG, not allowed.

Some Problems
I have used Turbo Tax in previous years and was very satisfied. The 2018 program was not the same. Once installed the program did not want to open. Once it did and I closed it and went back to open again the same problem occurred. It took many times of attempting to open before it did. Not impressed.

Print to Mail -- Quebec form
I had completed everything and filed my CRA filing via netfile (I had a CD version of Turbotax). But, I had a nightmare trying to print without duplicate watermarks to mail Quebec tax form which was required because it was my first year in Quebec. I finally switched into Forms to print and Turbotax then warned me that the Turbotax appication was not created properly during installation and I should go into the Icon, click and run as adminstrator, then click yes to User Account Control Box. I did that, went back to the final page, Saved the PDF of Return to Mail file to my computer, loaded that and printed that file and everything was ok. The Print Return to Mail only still gives the Watermark Duplicate version, but that is ok. There appears to be a problem with the software on the CD Standard disk when you want to Print to Mail. The warning I got in Forms mode never appeared in the Easyform mode. The netfile worked great, as it has in past years when I lived in Ontario.

bug Donations to Carry Forward
I found a bug with regards to Donations to Carry Forward and it is still not fixed and I am experiencing major difficulties in getting help from Intuit. I am NOT impressed. I have used Intuit for many years, but it appears to be going seriously downhill.

Everytything was going good until we got to the end part where you pay if you owe taxes. You do a poor job of explaining , or even providing a form , on how to pay the amount owing. You list the various choices ,but you don't explain how to use them to make a payment.

Useful tool
I have used Turbo Tax for many years now and usually find it easy to use. This year I found several problems and I found the ability of TT support to be not very useful. Firstly I did taxes for my brother-in law who is 69 living in Que. His income is minimal and as such receives a GISupplement. When I input all his data and netfiled he received an assessment saying he did not need to pay the RAMQ amount of 614.... as TT had calculated. Also I was unable to netfile my quebec returns because they indicated that a RL 16 form was incorrect. The federal was fine using the same numbers on the T5 this resulted in extra time and effort. Support is not readily available.

Somewhat frustrating
Overall it does a good job. BUT! Be prepared to spend a lot of time pulling your hair out as it is very difficult to navigate back and forth. If you wish to correct something or visit an area you've previously completed, this program just doesn't fill the bill.

EXHAUSTED!! ENOUGH TO GO TO A PRO.
When my Pension amount was increased by $23,000 for no apparent reason ... even after zero'd out the T4P entries, it still showed up, I called the TTx help line.
I assured her that I did not choose to use the program to fill in my information, but did it all by Forms.
The suggestion was that I go back and do the Fill in the blank and answer the questions method, because that usually solves the problem. After 20 minutes of that exercise, nothing changed.
The suggestion was to go back to the start and open a new filing, and start over.
After doing this, the result was the same ... $23,000 more in pension income, to throw the end result of my return into a cocked hat.
Turbo Tax has developed beyond its ability. After a decade of using it, I'll likely go to another tax solution next filing year!!

Room for improvement
Still a long way to go to making ease of use. There is no way to continue EasyStep Interview by choosing what you want to work on (great feature in US TurboTax).
There is also no way to override entries.
Still get periodic errors, for example it tells me I have sold my house when haven't and I can't repair this. Or it won't allow T1135 foreign accounts with no income or loss.

Slowest Software EVER!
Generally good and user friendly. Accurate results.
A few criticisms...
1. The SLOOOOOWWWEST software I have ever used and getting slower every year. I have a fairly new, very fast machine and yet it takes 3-4 minutes to load. Also requires several updates between December & April and reloads double the loading time.
2. Navigation buttons should be duplicated at the top of each page to avoid need to scroll to them and keep mouse pointer over "continue" button, for example (useful when proof-reading several sections).
3. Right mouse clicks should yield drop-down menu, rather than single function ... useful for cut & paste, for example.

Foreign Busines Income shown as self-employ income
I have a T3-slip with $5 in box24. I reported it using the T3-slip data entry window in box24. Box24 is foreign business income. Turboxtax 2018 shows the $5 in the self-employment income line in "Income Summary", also in the NetFile review dialog. That is clearly wrong !

Problem this year 2018
I've used TurboTax every year since it first came out. This year, for some unknown reason I didn't start by loading my 2017 data. After mostly completing the 2018 info, I tried to do the comparison with 2017, but there was no data. There was an option to upload the data, so I clicked on it. It uploaded the 2017 data and erased all my 2018 input! I called TurboTax and they told me that there was no way to merge the data, and they told me no. I suggested that they put "Import last year's data" as the first choice on the home screen. If it had been there this year, maybe I wouldn't have missed it.

why it can't be switch file tax together
