Using the software was easy but although I should be able to file online today, that option is not available to me for some reason and it is impossible to reach support.

This year i don't like Turbotax
I love TurboTax it is easy to use, I like to print a copy for myself, this year every time I click on print a fax comes up I don't have a fax. So I cannot print a copy Sadly disappointed.

Worked as expected
Overall the program worked as expected again this year. I find it easier to use than trying to work through the forms so a lot of time saved. Not much seems to change from year to year except the necessary tax changes. The ability to refile is a nice add. It would have been helpful if I was able to import taxes from a previous year completed on the web but I was unable to get access to the previous files and had changed computers so lost the old data. A few other issues that seem to appear every year like. medical expenses optimizer did not work well when I input all my previous years data. I had input them all in my previous years return and wanted to carry them forward but the system does not allow you to flag them individually to carry forward so they dont have to be input again the following year. The optimizer also did not work as the optimal medical expense resulted in a lower refund vs the manual one I ended up selecting. also need to add dates to the medical summary page so you can quickly see when you should cut off your medical year as changing the date in the optimizer was difficult as it kept resetting even though I was changing a day at a time so very frustrating. If filing multiple years as once and want to go back and say reduce an RRSP contribution to carry forward in the following year you cant automatically update the following year when you go back into that file and it doesn't change the rrsp deduction limit amounts. donation credit optimizer also did not work as it suggested I should claim the deductions but my spouse made more money so claimed under her provided a better return by a few dollar. System always asks for rent/property tax credits in the warnings when only one spouse recognizes them even though they only have one home. the system should be smart enough to ask how many properties are owned by each and optimize any credits that might be provided for rent or property tax payments it can be confusing when you see a warning suggesting the spouse should claim only to find out it didn't matter. These are all issues that have carried forward year after year so you have to wonder if the old stuff is looked at.
Overall the program is a time saver and simplifies what could be a challenging process for some. I like it and will continue to use it but will only download it now as I need to know I can backup my files in case I lose them.

Why do some edits only come up during final review? Then when fixing them dramatic changes to return. Then you need to go through everything to see what was done and try and determine if return is correct or not.
Edits should be applied throughout.

Very slow after reopening file
The program is mostly easy to use, but there are some issues that need to be improved.
+ I like the addition of the option to increase or decrease the size of the font.
- When I created a file with a business and was filling in all data, the program was very fast. However after reopening the file, the program kept hanging up and was very slow. I created a new file reentered the date and same thing happened. Third time I had to reenter all data again and file the tax return without closing the file.
- The date format is inconsistent with Revenue Canada format and therefore confusing. The date format should be YYYY-MM-DD.

Two years in a row, import of data fails
I have been using TurboTax for many years now, and before that QuickTax.
Without too much thought, I would purchase the product tax season after tax season. I haven't researched competing products in the past but I will next year.
For two years in a row now, the import of my Revenu Canada data has failed. Both years I have called Support for assistance only for them to inform me that the error message is a generic one and there is not much they can do.
The data import functionality needs a review by Intuit's coders. At the very least, when an import fails, TurboTax should write the failed data to disk along with a description of what failed. This way support will be able to assist customers and the developers will have the data required to improve this functionality.
The failed imports have really soured my option of TurboTax, I hope this review is read by the developers and that this issue is looked at before the next version/tax season.

I have now been using Turbo tax since 2014, it is something I should have done years ago, I originally found it tricky to use, but now I am beginning to master the product. I like it.

Software quality is going down
I have been a TurboTax/QuickTax user for a number of years and I am seeing the software quality going down every year.
This year I found the software had a number of bugs which were never fixed with the updates. The main issue is that double clicking on a cell in order to get to the supporting schedule often brought me to an unrelated schedule. This was the case for a few schedules which was very frustrating. As an accountant, I have extensive knowledge of how the schedules tie in but I don't know how someone with limited knowledge would manage.
Also I needed to contact customer support on 2 occasions and in both cases they were unable to help solve my problems..

Not the easiest to use
Have always done my taxes on spreadsheets built from paper forms. Have always identified areas in the questions that miss deductions to which I am entitled. Auto form loading from CRA is very helpful and Netfile has improved.

In a loop when trying to get out.
Finished my returns, printed in the PDF format and the TurboTax keeps telling me that my return files were modified and no matter what I choose to save/don't save, I get sent back to the previous page to rate TurboTax or continue. If I chose to continue the TurboTax takes me back to the summary tax. How do I get out of this thing unless I chose to kill the application?

Joint returns confusing
It is not always clear if your partner is a new resident in Canada whether some fields are to be filled in Canadian or US dollars or converted with an exchange rate. Also some web pages do not clearly identify to which client it is applicable

Room for Improvement
We entered that we did not sell any property and the software kept warning us to complete the form for selling property. Now we have an incomplete form in our taxes that we cannot get rid of. Will this create problems in the future?

Deduction Flaw
The Program has a flaw that is a major irritant. Even though I selected which of us would claim the medical deductions, it would keep switching back to the lower income person. This set us up to have to pay tax. Doing it my way had us both receiving a rebate.

Good-but too many updates
If not for the 4-5 updates I've needed since I purchased it in January 2018, I would have no complaints.
Without the update, these pop-up warnings appear and are a real nuisance: "do you want us to continue to run scripts on this page" and take 30 seconds to disappear after clicking no. The warnings occur for each field filled in, or each click of the continue button.
I have a note book computer supplied by my employer that requires password protected permission to download updates. Hence its a real inconvenience.
Intuit its called quality control.
Why not have it right when you sell it in stores?
To me an update for software is no different than a recall on an automobile.
Intuit up your game to zero defects!

Needs some upgrading
our family has used turbo tax and quick tax for many years. The program does make tax returns a lot easier and many features are way better than the competition (Eg Summary view). Some items do need to be updated - i.e. why cant we copy and paste data from one form or field to another? Suggest that you do a thorough review of the user friendliness of the product prior to next years release.

almost helpful
TurboTax does most things well. However, there are some advanced things, allowable by CRA and perfectly honest and legal, that TurboTax does not allow a person to do.
Generally, TurboTax saves time and is accurate; however, it did make one very significant error that could not be fixed with TurboTax software. My chartered accountant spotted the error and his professional tax software avoided this error when TurboTax could not avoid causing it.

printing horrors

I have used Turbo tax for years and was cautiously optimistic this year and tried it again despite last years reassessment caused by the glitch in the software which indicated i was a member of a communal association which made my income problematic! fingers crossed for this year.

warning
I have used Turbo tax for many years and this year I kept getting a script error all the way through the program. The app did finally complete and file my returns , but I had to keep clicking on the script error message to be able to continue to the next step. Very frustrating

Invalid Industry Codes
Problem with invalid Industry Code this year. Information led me and others to incorrect information. Not sure if the Government has different pages and different versions of the NAICS. The 2012 version seemed to work.
