Crashed several times
I have tried to use the Turbotax to connect to government web page to import my T4, ... and everytime it crashed, the time that spent for that I could do it myself several times, anyway I end up do it myself by inputting the numbers!

Once you have opened and saved a return some screens are no longer available, eg "return prepared by another person". The help feature(S) are of no help either. Such issues have existed for previous versions. DrDave

This tax program seems to create much added work for returns with any non standard components. Sched 3 Supp seems to overlap with T5008's
User interface is Terrible if you have a high definition monitor - The program does not adjust properly to screen resolution leaving control icons minuscule and difficult to use. This also made registration almost a guess as to what was requested in each field.

Good, but...
Generally good but occasionally takes you in loops with warnings and doesn't have some boxes such as box 64 (Exploration in north of Quebec) on Releve 15 which may have cost me extra taxes.

Reluctant Customer
The whole idea of having to buy software to do taxes is obscene. At the very least, CRA should provide free tax software. Ideally, they should do our taxes, since they have all the info already.
Things are not easy to find in TurboTax.
There should be an easier way to provide long lists (e.g., medical expenses).
Cannot easily transfer previous year's return from a network drive.

Weaker than past packages
Title in English - "Standard" but title in French - "De Luxe".... de Lux implies some upgrade from Standard yet they are the same contents... confusing. Slow to open. Does not accept check marks in boxes. Check marks show up later with screen refresh at times. Confusing. Confusing as to how to get out from help back to forms. Worry that closing pages will close program which happens in various cases. I have used for many years... maybe 15-20 years and this year's was by far the worse with respect with smoothness and clarity.

suggestion
it would be great if easy step added in the northern resident component based on the address you enter. Since it doesn't you have to know the deduction exists and go and find the form and fill it out yourself.

earlier Turbotax products were better
Certain forms were more confusing that earlier turbo tax product forms even through my tax filing were the same through the years.
Found this year Turbo Tax wasted paper unnecessary in printing out confirmation.

Makes you second guess yourself
I like that it asks you questions but at times... unclear if you are entering in information doubly. It makes you second guess yourself...
still better than others (tax products). Less stress but still not completely stress-free. LOTS of advertising.

Updated Help
The information contained within the help files are more articulate and answer the questions being asked. For example, the updated info on dependants is very clear compared to previous help descriptions and the Revenue Canada help FAQs.

OK
I usually love using TurboTax, however I found this years to be much more confusing. This may have to do with this year's tax laws and budgets, but TurboTax did not make it easy to file this year. I have been much happier in past years.

Form issues
This year the Turbo Tax printed out unnecessary forms that were not applicable. There were errors on carrying forward balances from previous year that had to be corrected.

Different results
(1) Different results in overall joint tax return whether I started first and added wife vs. my wife started first and I was added second.
(2) Not easy to switch kids student buss passes between my wife's and mine info, because also made a difference in amount.

NEW FORMAT
IVE BEEN USING CANTAX AND TURBOTAX FOR 30 YEARS BUT THIS YEAR"S NEW FORMAT POSED MANY PROBLEMS FOR ME. BY USING EITHER METHOD I FOUND IT TOO DIFFICULT TO ENTER THE INFO FOR ANY OF THE T SLIPS.

Issues with T5008 Slips
If you have T5008 slip information that are in both spouses names, you will need to manually split them on the CD version of the software. There is no percentage box like with the T3, and T4 slips to automatically divide the information for you. This means entering the info twice.
Also, if you are carrying over Capital Losses from previous years, and have a Capital Gain in the current year, the software will not apply the loss to the gain to reduce your taxes. It will also NOT notify you that you have a loss that can be applied to the gain. You will need to make sure that you check this on your own.
Not really impressed with the software this year. The above issues should not happen, and are really easy to implement. Why they did not is a mystery to me.

Precautions when using this software
Just a caution - The medical expense example was wrong.
The software did not transfer shared interest from the T-slip to the return properly. Despite specifying 50% it allocated 100% to each spouse.
The software did not transfer Capital losses properly to the return. It was necessary to delete the info from the T5008 fill worksheet and type it directly into the Schedule.

update issues again
Each year when I purchase TurboTax I end up having to install the product several times due to errors and issues. Very frustrating start each year. works fine after installed and updated the first time.

Confusing Turbo Tax 2017
I've used Turbo Tax for 3 years but this year (for 2017) it was confusing and would not retain much of the information, I was constantly having to go back in and re enter the info. Not sure why - will give Turbo Tax another try next year.

could be better
Some questions are vague, like the question
" has anyone made a claim for this child" Not exact wording, but I found this question confusing. I did this return for my daughter and son in law. He had tuition fees that I wanted to transfer to my daughter. I could not find info about this anyware. Had to search for it. Should be an automatic question when you say you have tuition fees. What's with all the warnings? None of them pertain to any of us...4 returns done. Lots more complaints, but I didn't write them down. Not as easy as they say.

A bit confusing, hard to edit
This may be the most confusing version yet. And not very searchable - for example, hard to find charitable donations pages.
Software is often slow to load, and usually slow to respond.
The constant nagging gets tiring quickly. How many times do you have to say No before the software finally accepts your decision? I don't know because it nags about the same points every time I make a change, do a review, read over my return, etc.

Careful with WITB
TurboTax is good but you have to be careful with the WITB. My son is a full-time student and the system insisted on adding the WITB and my son is not eligible to claim it. The previous year happened the same thing and we had to pay it back after a reassessment arrived. The worst part is that he had already spent it and I had to lend him plus the CRA charged interests!

There are some tweaks
When you go through the filing, you just go around in a circle even when it asks, "Do you want to start a new return" and you answer YES, it doesn't close the return. Other than a few things like that, the program is easy to use.

Better last year
I used this product for my 2016 return. I am not what you might call Computer Savvy but that year I breezed thru, completed a joint return in an hour or so (didn't keep track) submitted the return and printed my copies. To say it was simple is an understatement.
This year, however, it was not so simple. I don't know if it was my older computer or my misunderstanding of instructions. I completed the return but had to backtrack a number of times. Importing from CRA didn't work but It submitted to CRA OK. Printing was an issue, I got jumbled pages, multiple copies of one page, etc. In a nutshell, last year I praised the product, this year, not so much. Was it me or the product, I don't know. I can recommend it but with caution as to the problems I encountered.

Semi-decent
Problems at start and finish. The register online pop-up came up so small on my laptop I couldn't read it, or even see the part on the left. So I didn't register. At the end, there was no clear indication of how to pay the taxes with online banking so I'm still trying to figure that out.
