Medical Receipt Error
Turbo tax automatically applied the wrong time period to the medical receipt claims, such that it completely excluded all the medical receipts. (it was like it carried forward the wrong dates from my previous year return). Fortunately I noticed this and corrected it.

Netfile change amount owing

Product is good, but...
About 5 years ago I purchase the STANDARD version per salespersons instructions and since then I've had to continue using this version because the software cannot convert tax data from STANDARD to BASIC. I only need the BASIC version, and it's cheaper. Very frustrating

Poor help sections
TurboTax was easy to use. However, the help sections was basically useless and provided almost no information or helpful explanations.
I was forced to look on the internet. This was disappointing because previous versions provided good and helpful explanations

your system printed all the forms even after selecting not to print the unnecessary ones... I was stuck in a perpetual merry go round trying to start a new return it would lead me back to print/save return I pressed continue - continue then yes to start a new one and was back to the print/save option

Turbo Tax 2017
Easy to use---but it gets confused easily too !!!
I have NEVER lived on N'Ishka land--and said NO- but it insisted that I had to "Fix" this error !!! Also insisted I had sold my principle residence when we have had the SAME address now for almost 50) YEARS-
Al;so said there were previous years Tax Returns unfiled which is also WRONG !!!!!
Most confusing Turbo Tax program ever !!!!
Definately needs some work before I will use it again next year !!!!!

circles
the review and netfile processes are disconcerting in that they continuously loop asking 'do you want to save a copy' right after a copy has been saved. a smidgen of AI please. also applies to netfiling and saving an unchanged return.
Updates: why on earth do you ask if i want to update previous years turbo e.g. 2015 which i certainly DO NOT wish to Change. and apply rules of WRONG year when browsing previous year(s).

Past Programs were better than 2017
I had some issues with the 2017 program. I didn't like that each line's entry did not appear until I clicked on the next line. Line 476 would not allow direct entry although "Help" said you could enter directly and it would not take you to another entry area by clicking on it. Otherwise the program worked well.

annoying bugs
Consistent error on each return- always said filer was a citizen of the Nisga'a Nation when box indicating No was entered. With Netfile the print option for the confirmation never worked (printer connection was check prior)

On line purchase
There were too many problems with the online purchase. In future I will purchase TurboTax at the store with a disk. I hope the disks did not have the same problems as the on line purchase!

errors inprograme
both my mom and my returns insist we each individually sold our principle residence. I do not own a house and my momdid not sell hers. Also my dad's return had him claiming my mom as a dependant - who was disabled. She is neither. so this must all be a glitch in the software

COULD USE MORE HELP FOR NOVICES
Turbo Tax Standard is better than the product I'd used before. Could use better instructions for getting back to the main return after you have seen one of the schedules, etc. may be something like a button "Return to the main return" might help.

Only change I would like to see is that pages not needed should not print. Example: I reviewed about claiming for Meals and Lodging Expenses then realized it was not applicable but the pages still printed. Same with the 13 pages of Capital Gain

Opened annoying extra pages
Software was mostly as easy to use as usual, however it crashed in use then kept asking me to re-register the product. Also kept opening forms for options that had not been selected during the Introduction & Profile pages. Had to go back and select then de-select to get rid of the excess. That has happened in previous years, but this year was worse.

Optimizer for Charitable Donations
I have been very UNHAPPY with the ways that Turbo Tax makes the splitting of charitable donations between my wife and me. The Optimizer does not work and there is no allowance for manually overriding the splitting and still allowing NETFILE.

Dependent aspect needs a lot of work
I've used UFile in the past, but decided to try Turbotax this year. First issue, I started my return, and when it asked me if I had dependents (and I do), it then told me it could not find their file. That was it, didn't ask me if I wanted to start a tax return for them. So I exited out of my return and had one completed for my dependent. Once my dependents return was finished, it wanted to file it before optimizing the benefits across all the returns..., not sure how it can optimize the returns after some of them have already been submitted. I recall UFile having me fill out all the returns, and then it helped figure out best way to optimize the taxes, and then they were filed. Other than that, Turbotax interface was better (easier to understand), but it will switch back and forth between you and your spouse as oppose to having you complete all of your info, and then having all of your spouses info entered.
