Too expensive

Difficulty Registering
I tried to register my CD but the form was not centered on the screen and I could not move it so that I could enter the information required. I finally gave up.

issues with medical deductions
With a spouse in a nursing home the expenses are challenging to translate into what is appropriate for medical vs accommodation.

Use with caution
WHEN YOU GET THE END OF THE RETURN IT ASKS IF YOU WANT TO START ANOTHER RETURN. WHEN YOU CLICK ON 'YES' IT PUTS YOU INTO A LOOP. RIDICULOUS!!!
LAST YEAR IT DOUBLED THE AMOUNT OF MY DAUGHTER'S TUITION AND CRA CAUGHT ME AND FORCED ME TO RETURN MONEY.

Flawed
Endless loop at the end when you are asked if you want to start a new return. If you say yes it tells you that the Income tax Return File you had just finished has changed, when it hadnt changed, and prompts you to save it or not. You matter your choice of yes or no, you end up in an endless loop! Unbelievable how no one debugged this software before they released it for sale!

Helpful But
For Deceased you say type "Estate of the Late" and then the program says "too many letters"?? Still doesn' t allow transfer of last year's charities to this year. Still can't get in touch with Intuit for service. They keep promoting the more expensive version which I don't need. Otherwise the product makes most things easier.

Not as good as previous
There are problems within the software, especially in the area of Pension splitting. In order to "workaround" you have to skip that section and enter the information later.

carry forward not supported
This is the first year I have not been able to carry over my previous year turbotax file as it was not supported as I purchased the 2017 Standard CD version rather than using the online standard version as done last year. This was very annoying and time consuming.

FREE???
thinking this was a FREE program I was very disappointed that I had to purchase the product when I went to do the Income Splitting. It would have been nice to know this before I downloaded the FREE program

be careful closing pages
There is a problem going from one page to another. Sometimes when you go to another form you press the X at upper right corner to get back to where you were. Sometimes this just closes the program without saving.

Room for Improvement
(1) For unknown reasons I was unable to download the T3 and T5 info directly from the CRA website.
(2) I split everything (T5 and T3 income, gains and losses from disposition of stocks and bonds) 50/50 with my wife. But unlike T5 and T3 income, I was unable to designate the % to be allocated to my wife with respect to the disposition of stocks and bonds, I have to enter the same info twice on both returns.
(3) While I am entering the info I could not switch back and forth between mine and my wife's return.

The interface with the CRA website is very clunky and if you accidentally click to go to My Account, but do not have one, then the application locks up and you lose any unsaved progress.

Waaaaaay too verbose
Filing a single T4 took 45 minutes! It should take only 10 min. Especially since I loaded info from last year. That means an average family with 2 working teenagers will need 3 hours minimum :-(
It's not an awful program, but it's not very smart.

Confusing when filing
The dialog boxes which appear during netfiling are very confusing. Please draw a clear distinction between show stoppers and mere pieces of advice. Make sure that once an item has been addressed it does not keep reappearing. Please give a very direct indication of whether submission to CRA was successful or not.

Medical optimization doesn't split to save the most owed, only to maximize rebate. When both pay, it actually selects highest owed, costing me more!!!

frequent Server Busy Error
Too frequently required a three-fingered shutdown, even with product up-to-date, and no other conflicts as described in the troubleshooting section on the Intuit website. And I filed a month before the deadline.

2017 tax year edition
I still find it difficult to manoeuvre around but continue to use it. I have difficulty with the 'optimizing' portions of it. I change a few things around to see if the results come out differently etc. Each year I think efforts have been make it somewhat easier. This year there were a couple of places where extra help could be received for a fee or it could be checked for a fee which I found somewhat annoying to have them plunked into the middle. I ended up leaving my last version as is & filed it rather than try to figure out how to revert back to a different choice for a min. amount of savings. I think some of the difficulty lies in the tax form itself. I have done my own for 50 years but find it is more difficult to understand now than it used to be. Ours should be very straight forward as we don't have complications!

The on line program down load
This is the second time I have had to complete my 2017 tax return due to the fact the first time the program did not save the return after saying successfully saved. I spoke to customer service who had no explanation why it had not saved and suggested every time I close the return I should use the save as feature, this is the first time i have ever had to do this. This was first time I have ever down loaded the program, in all previous years I bought the program. We will see how this attempt is saved.

More Problems this year than others
This year there were instances where Turbotax didn't save files necessitating re-entry. There were times when two files were open (sharing information - tuition transfer) when the program hung up.

loopy
when I try to exit it loops back in to the document, even when closing, loops back in unless a hard closure. Never had this issue before, I've been using Turbotax for many years.
Another is how to save if two people have the same first name? No options.

needs some improvements
Tick boxes are too small a target for my liking. In order to optimize pension sharing, charity and medical deductions, it is necessary to repeat the process several times, as each function may make changes which require revisions to other optimizations. There is no warning or caution about this, but this I have learned from experience.

Younger adults like myself haven't been as thoroughly edjucated on doing our taxes. There's a lot of questions I had that were not answered in TurboTax that I had to Google or look elsewhere for mediocre help at best. Nothing wrong with having a online chat service either...
