More Difficult than last years version
Trying to do a joint return was a bit challenging...the whole thing isn't intuitive anymore.
Also, it continued to bring up asking if we'd moved or if we'd sold a house...which I had already answered the question with "No" and it brought it up again. Somewhat annoying

Affordable
Turbo Tax Standard is most affordable way for low income family to file income tax. It is not to easy for first time user, but it does the job.

Older versions of Turbo Tax were far easier to navigate. The end of this version just spins you round and round, even though you answer yes to starting a new return. New...yes. Better...I don't think so.

Changes for the worse
I've used Turbotax for many years, and it has typically gotten better each year. For someone with a simple tax situation, it allows you to do your taxes very quickly.
This year, it got worse for four main reasons:
(1) An error message kept popping up with every button clicked ("Do you want to continue using scripts on this page?"). I sometimes had to click "OK" >25 to make this go away on any given page. It must have popped up 400 times over the course of doing my taxes. Annoying!
(2) The user interface seems to have gotten larger, but with more blank space. Not as neat and tidy as it used to be.
(3) The "running total" (refund vs amount owing) from previous years seems to have disappeared. Where go? It was very useful.
(4) I must have been asked six separate times if I had sold my house in 2017. No, and still no!
Overall, still a great product, but clunkier than normal this year and the first time I can remember that it actually got worse year-over-year. Still, I will very likely use it again next year.

TurboTax Standard is Exactly That
It's standard. Much like its name implies. Don't go into something titled "Standard" and expect something above standard. In case I haven't said that it's standard enough yet, I'll repeat myself once more. It's pretty standard.

Not as Helpful as previous years
I have used Turbo tax for many years and I always find your product useful.
I was not as happy this year with the changes to the program. The navigation changed and the helpful video clips were no longer available as in previous years.
However, I did like the ability to file my tax return right within TurboTax.

Activation Code
We purchased an activation code from Costco and followed the process on the cover of the actual plastic activation code. This code did not work and I spent 2 hours on the phone with your representatives at Turbo Tax. I subsequently returned the activation code card to Costco and purchased the actual CD from another retail outlet. Hopefully this was a "one-off" problem and no other purchaser had this problem. I was not very happy with Turbo Tax when they would not give me an override code to activate the program.

Errors in 2018 Product
1. GST and Ontario Trillium amounts to expect were not offered.
2. The Netfile Confirmation used 3 pages of paper to print when 1 page would do.
3. The spelling on Easystep "Ontario Property Tax and Rent Credit" page continues to need to be corrected. Accommodations has TWO m's.
4. The T1 Page 4 printout had overprinting on the Top Right header on every return.

TurboTax is confusing
The last steps loop you around over and over. I have no idea if the tax return was uploaded to the CRA website. It didn't bring me to the website - it just said the upload was successful. There was an option to pay the amount owing with online banking which I clicked but it brought me nowhere - just said it was successful. I can only assume I'll receive an invoice from CRA. I don't know why I bought TurboTax this year. Ugh.

Quit sending me emails!
Last year I used the on-line program. BIG MISTAKE!! It was the same price as purchasing a disc and I had to pay for each return I processed, rather than the 8 returns the disc offers. I had a terrible time getting a refund for my 2nd return. I had to phone numerous times before they processed and in the end was told I was to pay separately for each return. NOT IMPRESSED I will never use the on-line program again. QUIT SENDING ME EMAILS!!

Compared to other options out there it's too expensive.
Easy to use.
Some glitches with the new update. Had to close and open again a couple of times. But overall pretty good.
I wish they would lower the cost a bit.

Problem with RRSP section with HBP option
The RRSP section does not work correctly when combined with HBP repayment. When you mention about HBP repayment the RRSP section does not provide any option to mention how much total RRSP contribution you have made. It keeps saying 0. I wasted an hour or so trying to figure out what to do and there is no chat support or such available directly from the software.
I had to go into actual form, learn how to use it and update it. Only then it started reflecting in RRSP section.

Quite good, room for improvement
Big improvement over paper, easy to use overall, but it could be better:
- Not all items are explained in the help function;
- Navigation has improved, but is not perfect;
- Not enough guidance for revenue from foreign country with tax treaty;
- RRSP optimization should show federal and provincial tax rate thresholds;
- A wizard should help simulate which revenue level would allow to take full advantage of non refundable tax credits.

Not much improvement over the years
When one uses Easy Step, one is supposed to be able to declare foreign pension that eventually goes to line 115 and then one should be able to go to a deductions page and state that the pension is exempt under foreign treaty. This does not happen. Under the deductions page, when one hits "this applies to me" one just gets the foreign income summary and nothing happens after that. One has then to go to the Forms pages to line 256 and make sure that everything is inputted properly there. This is a serious flaw which I have pointed out before but no improvements have been made.

Text Sizing Great Addition
Have Used Turbo Tax for over 10 years. Text Sizing is a wonderful addition, However, Profile is too wordy and time-consuming to complete. Just list common T-slips and we can tick off which ones we have like you did one year.
Any questions should be short and to the point. Also, it is a real pain and frustrating to have to go back to answer a profile question correctly in order to access a form to fill in.
Hopefully a more concise Profile would prevent errors in answering it OR don't have it linked with the forms at all.
Also, don't have pop-up ads for unnecessary upgrades, which is most annoying.
Staff were very helpful & knowledgeable.
