Can be easy and can be frustarting
Have used this software for the past 6 years. Most of the time it is very easy to use. However sometimes is makes assumptions that you have to manually override. Put in donations under my husband and could not figure out why it kept applying them to me even though I was already getting a return and he owed. Finally found a forum that told me I had to override the forms which may not be the easiest to navigator for simple return users.

Kind of buggy, no bulk receipt entry
I had over 100 medical receipts in quicken that I would have like to transfer but was very surprised to see there was no way to do this in bulk. Also tried copy paste from excel straight onto worksheet and this did not work either.
Pretty buggy experience with the donations optimizer and the functionality for saving some for next year. It was entering numbers that didnt make sense. Then gave errors at the end saying I had some overrides that needed to be cleared. Clearing overrides did not succeed. Only restart of the app fixed the problem but in the end my charitable amount was still not right.
It would have been quite easy for me to accidentally not claim and also not carry over a large amount of charitable donation room.

Text too small
I have been using the product for several years and have been very happy with it.
However, I switched to a windows 10 laptop this year and the font on some forms was too small to read. I was able to enlarge the text on most forms but could not enlarge the Tslip summaries in order to proof read the entries.
Older versions were easier to use. Newer versions work best using the easy step process which I dont need.

SIGN OUT
your program does not allow to sign out. Even after saying NO to new returns it still goes back to save mode and advertising. STOP, people will use your product if they need it. Don't need you to force-feed advertising. This is typical of Intuit including QuickBooks.

Your product does the job.....but....
Hi, I've been using Turbo tax for many years now. I like it....but....it could be way better.
While I appreciate that it takes you through step by step the process I find that some things are not laid out too great.
I find the inputting of medical receipts, child fitness/artistic, RRSP receipts cumbersome.
I'm not sure how to improve it, but it's just not smooth in those two sections. I guess I'd like to see each receipt listed in an Excel grid on the right hand side after I enter them. That way I can see all my receipts as I enter.

Turbotax 2016
Error code tt400 is a total waste of time. considering the no of comments one would think that Intuit would have fixed it by now. Otherwise this is an easy program to use and I have been using it for years. Just this year there were a couple of issues like not being able to update and not saving my entries. Hope 2017 is better.

somewhat confusing
Some of the instructions are sometimes confusing. Maybe someone inexperienced should review the instructions as it takes several times reading to get the gist of the meaning. Filling out the boxes on the T4A(OAS) box 18 and 19 cause some confusion as on the following page it appears like the entry was put in twice. on the summary of income for the husband and the wife it looks as if the wife earned a lot more than actual but seems to be OK later on . At the end when submitting I was not sure if the program would backtrack to my wife's submission but it did in fact but it had me wondering for a while. The whole thing made me tense as it kept me doubting as to whether I was doing things right. At first when I started the program I selected to hold the program and tried to restart the next day and then found I had to start all over again, wasting a lot of time. At first during installation it would not start automatically after inserting the CD . I had to go to the DVD drive and force it to open. It took me a lot longer than I thought it would to get my taxes done. I tried to get a phone # for help but could not get a number as I am 79 and find it hard to interpret instructions.

Generally excellent but...
I have been using Turbo Tax and its predecessors for many years and have been generally very satisfied.
This year I ran in to a few glitches that had me enraged. I did some preliminary work on my return, saved and closed. Any subsequent work I did would simply not save no matter how I attempted to save. When I re-opened the return I was back to that first saved file. The truly maddening part was that it was only that return! All other returns saved normally. I finally had to delete the file and start again from scratch. Turbo Tax worked fine from then on. Also the link for carrying charges was dead. of course; the only one I wanted! Since this is the first problem I have had in over 10 years of use, I will say generally excellent but beware.

Frustration this year
Turbotax was working as expected until the notification of further deductions (smart tips?) at the end. One applied to my situation, but there was nothing to show how to apply said deduction. Involved transferring line 120 dividends to spouse to increase line 303. Within each T3 or T5 entering 0% was not accepted for a split but 0.1% was not meeting CRAs requirements. So frustrating. From the internet search seems to be an ongoing issue - please fix!

Like anything, the more you use it the better you get at navigating around. Wish these programs would offer more advice and be a little more intuitive. My wife is self employed, and any tips around saving a buck here or there would be welcome.

Need to make improvements
You're comparing apples to lettuce: when you write "Federal" then you should write "Provincial" in association with it, not Quebec. If using "Quebec" then use "Canada". I'm tired of all the unused forms on the screen, you used to have a tool to close the unused ones before easy step. It makes the opened forms list too long. Shorten it and put the list and tiles in some sort of order: alphabetical? These scattered tiles on the screen is of no use, unless someone tries to organise them but they don't stay organised.
The help has been and still is lousy, I get better and faster info from google! AND it takes me to a turbo tax link with better info, why can I get to it via help.
Having the autofill pop-up each time I open the file is really annoying, You need a "don't show me again" box, because I can get it of the drop down menu if I need it.

Used to be better
I've used Turbo Tax in the past, but last year decided to try another program. This year I came back to Turbo Tax and found that there have been changes - not necessarily for the good. I found that the explanations weren't as good as they had been in the past as they didn't explain whether things applied to me or not. I didn't understand what some possible claims were and the explanations only explained how to claim them, not what they were.

For some reason, TurboTax maxed out the number of paid returns available. The program showed that I had filed the maximum number of paid returns using the installation key from another computer, when I didn't. First year using Standard. Not impressed!

Two challenges - disability credits and filing
When you hit something that is new and confusing - like trying to apply disability credits, this program is pretty sketchy, and doesn't give much help, and then you have to either guess as to what to do, or resort to online help.
Don't even get me started on trying to update my version of the software. Easy in retrospect, hours in actuality.

I have used Turbo Tax and it previous versions for many years. However, this year was difficult because of the "script error" messages constantly popping up.
I tried to correct via the internet but no suggestions worked. I hope your next version will be corrected and work better.

Please change share custody questions!
I share custody of my two children with my ex. The children live at both of our houses every week. We share custody. According to TurboTax, that means that I should be able to claim one of my children as equivalent to spouse. This is not true though as I pay child support. PLEASE make this clear in the program for other single parents! On the CRA website, it is clear, however nowhere in TurboTax can I find this and it makes a huge change in your return. Please add the question 'Do you pay child support payments'. It is an very important question.

Could be improved!
The 2016 version is still not user friendly. The questions and choices are ambiguous in some cases. Sometimes it's hard to go back and find something. The optimizer's didn't help me, because I wanted all the refund to go to my spouse regardless. Given that I still wanted to maximize the refund, and therefore had to keep changing the optimum amount to maximize the amount going to my spouse. The phone help was terrible, although the individual on the line tried their best.

2016 disapointing
I have used Turbo Tax for several years with no problems, always very easy to download program, to navigate and work in.
This year the "java script" glitch made it maddening. I understand that it had to do with running on Windows 10 (a system I don't like either). I had to uninstall and re-install several times. Finally got program to work and when trying to NetFile the error came up again. There was no online help or a patch - which there should have been since I was doing this April 28!
I eventually was able to complete NetFile but this year was not impressed with the product.
