first time filing electronically
I had a bit of difficulty finding where my boxes and lines were supposed to be entered but eventually figured it out. This who process took me about three hours, about the same as it would if I'd done it on paper but with less frustration.

Serviceable but...
It's easy to use, and I've been using it for over ten years. But it just hasn't changed much. After all these years Intuit ought to be able to make the software a little more adaptable and easy to use. I would really like to see the optimizers telling me what the optimum actually is and giving me explicit feedback "if you do this then you get this $$ result", rather than "you have more non-refundable credits than you can use, consider carrying over some medical receipts to next year". I was also chagrined to find that if I couldn't import last year's data at the very first step, it could never be done. However, full marks for allowing me to install earlier years' programs on my replacement computer without hassle! Also. Every year TurboTax tries to tell me that Standard isn't really a fully functional tax program and I should upgrade, but they never give me any reason to believe that the upgrades are worth the money.

Room For Improvement
If you follow the bouncing ball and there's no glitches in the system, it's a good product to take you from start to finish. If you sidetrack, it gets very hard to get back on track, because the only options are back or continue. Not back where you were last. When recording medical receipts, there is a lot of repetition, like Patient's Name, where paid to, type of medical/dental service. It would be nice if the program would populate automatically as you start typing e.g. Name: Tired next time as you type T... it fills in Tired, and if you had Tim as well, you'd have to type in Ti_ for it to populate. Some other simple things, if you type $25.00 by typing 25 it would be nice for the program to fill the field as 25.00 . Finally printing a hard copy of only pages with content results in about 18 pages. Let's set up some way to reduce the paper & ink use. One way for sure is to advise how many pages need printing and give us the option to print the pages we want to. That way we can print front & back, which cuts it down to 9 pages...that's a start. When you do a survey to find out ways to improve your service & product, allow the person to tell you what they liked and/or disliked, don't try and channel them into a certain response or direction.

Decent, but a decline from previous years
Good software. However I found this year I had to know my stuff more than previous years... Got warnings that didn't really apply to me and irrelevant prompts. Will likely get it again next year, but my look to validate the "maximum return guarantee" first.

Beware Refund total when doing joint refund
Note that if you are doing a joint return and see a refund amount it does not necessarily mean you owe nothing. It just means that combined, even if one owes, there is a refund. Example: It is showing a refund of $1,000. That may mean your spouse owes $500 and you will get a $1500 refund. I found that a little tricky because I was in no hurry to file taxes believing we didn't owe anything and then found out, oops, yes we did. Almost missed the cutoff period for payment which would have cost us interest.

I was supremely disappointed that TurboTax didn't support 4K screens for the second year. Come on Intuit, you are supposed to be a software company.....let's get it updated by next year's tax time!!!!

stop causing confusion
The program wouldn't allow me to move easily from using forms to easy method .I wanted to change medical/donations from myself or my wife to view comparisons but because I started easy method first it refused to allow me to switch users without deleting all the input receipts `from me then reentering to my wife..

It does the job
Turbotax does the job and files your taxes. The help menus could do a much better job of explaining what the information is need for and where to find it. We are not tax experts so provide that info.
For review and filing it would be great if Turbotax provided reports in excel column row format so users can insure they have not missed any boxes, etc.
Also things like medical slips could use auto fill to complete much of the repetitive data. I have suggest much of this before and been ignorred.
That the reason is only OK not Great

Outdated but works
Interface has not changed in a number of years, it is still fundamentally flawed in how data is entered.
Has anyone considered entering data from t-forms in the standard format set by the government instead of the random format chosen by turbotox?
What about an OCR to take in electronic documents automatically?
But it does seem to work to get your tax documents e-filed.

This is the 1st year that I had to claim a disability child credit and I found turbotax very difficult to maneuver and determine what credits to apply. Disappointed as I have used turbotax for a number of years and I thought the process would be easier.

Slipped this year
Last year I would have rated higher but experienced frustrating problems this year. Normally the program asks if you wish to import last years files but not this year. Later I found the option was a menu item but using it and importing last years file overwrote what I had entered for this year. Also my wife and I have different addresses and the program made them both the same and trying to overwrite was a pain. Now netfile was disallowed because of changing the address.

Turbotax Application and Windows
I have used TurboTax for many years and it is a great ax tool but recently I have found that the application does not execute well on Windows platforms. The UI has tiny fonts that are impossible to read and do not interface with Windows display manager. Many complaints on line but little or no solution to the problem. It installed on an Windows 8 computer but not on a Windows 7 computer. It seems to me that the way this application is written it does not conform well with Windows OS.

Buggy
I normally rely on TurboTax each year and have generally been satisfied however , this year's version appeared to be buggy. The install took longer than I expected, the online registration failed (failed to connect to the database), and I had script errors every time I went to a new page. I shutdown and restarted both my PC and TurboTax and still had the errors.

the combined tax total display is confusing
WON,T let you correct or go back when entering stack of medical expenses.

search for awhile to find way to receipts list where they can be edited.

Great, when it doesn't crash
This software is awesome, and makes life so much easier when it comes to tax time, that is, when it works. I had it freeze many times, including when trying to purchase your audit add-on, therefore I had to forego it (I really wanted it, I tried 4 times). There should be an auto-save feature as you go from page to page or section to section.

Harder than it needs to be
I found that the Easy method was harder than going line by line through the forms. It would be better if they ran the questions with the forms. There is no skipping ahead if you have forms early, you are forced to skip them in the questionnaire and rerun it weeks later, and go through all the same questions. Very unsatisfying. The medical receipts entry pages are not intuitive, and do not auto fill obvious fields like whom the patient was (on person!). Stuff like that.

Good if simple return otherwise very difficult
I had two simple returns to do, no problem very quick.
One return selling a stock, when I put the cost average in the capital loss came out at $70 instead of $2000. I had no problem on the CRA site. I spent hours trying to find my mistake I finally put in the total loss instead of the average per share cost and turbo tax had the correct answer. Since it wont effect my taxes this year if ever, I gave up and filed my turbo tax return. Another tax return I had to complete included
Pension from a foreign country
Except portion due to a tax treaty.
Tax paid to foreign country
I ended up having to go to CRA to fill out the forms, they have much better instructions for each field to be filled in. Then I could find my mistake on turbo tax to go from paying $250 to $57.

I have been using Quick Tax / Turbo tax for many years. This version (2016 tax year) is the worst I have used!!
There are areas in the Easy Step questions & guide that doesn't even match the CRA forms. The fonts are terrible - either huge, too small & some views are almost unreadable. Could be improved considerably.

Confusing at times
It's fairly simple to complete the return. I had to wait for my wife's return to come back from the Accountant and when it did, I had a hard time finding out where to go back and enter her net income.
After I e-filed it brought me back to the options for filing and it looked like I hadn't e-filed. It knew I had e-filed already, but wouldn't let me continue until I clicked "Done with filing." This seems counter-intuitive.

Good but some dealbreaker issues for me
Basic stuff - turbotax is solid. If you have investments, there are some issues. For example, I get tired of entering all capital gains/losses info into schedule 3 and the S3-supp. Would be incredibly useful if all those transactions could be imported from text or spreadsheet file. In fact, I'm tired of doing it manually and going to look for another product next year - ideally turbotax will step up (been a loyal user for 10+ years). And don't get me going on the T5013 slip entry boxes - I'm just a regular guy, so it drives me crazy looking for 50 or so randomly placed box numbers across 4 screens - why can't they be in numerical order???. Those are the big issues for me....
