Limited Support for Non-Resident
As a non-resident I use TT because it is better than nothing but have to use several "work-arounds" to get my data entered. This system is built around the T-slips and has very limited support for the NR-4s which are all I have.

Medical Expenses
Optimizer kept trying to claim medical expenses in my spouse's account which resulted in a lot more tax to be paid. Had to be careful since it kept changing every time I went into medical expenses section.

Erroneous RRP carry-forward
The 2016 TurboTax added a $1,000 RPP unclaimed deposit which they attributed to their error in 2015. This was an erroneous correction and prevented Netfiling the 2016 return until I deleted it. This took time to evaluate!

Stress Headache
The general potential of this product is good, but there are a lot of times that it is very confusing. I do not know if it is the product or the Taxation Department that is to blame, but it was not as simple and straight forward as I anticipated. Pressing the help button was no help at all.

Not as Good as Past Years
Have used Turbo tax for many years and this year was not as good as in the Past. First issue was that I had to reinstall the program the second time I used it. Although the first tine it updated it was ok it failed on the second update and had to be reinstalled. The section where you enter interest income allows you to split between you and your spouse (good) but the split didn't show until I checked the review at the end. Has been an issue for a few years. Lastly at the end when you are doing the final review there wasn't a continue button to take you to print or netfile. Caused confusion

more complicated than ever
Turbotax 2016 seems more complicated than the three previous editions. In 2015 I was able to transfer tax info from the previous years returns. Additionally the user info (name address s.i.n. etc) was automatically transferred to the new edition. This year all info had to be re-inputted.

Initially, I was unable to download updates, as the website had issues. Once I managed to update, there was a constant script error appearing with each entry. The RRSP portion was not accessible in the quick process. Over all there were as number of frustrations that I had not experienced in previous years

Easy to use, bad first page
This product over all is very easy to use, however, the first page and the placement of the "transfer" buttons below the first page with no indication that they were down below, meant the first two returns I had to fill in all the personal information. In the past, all I had to do was click on the "transfer information from past returns" and presto all the fields were already populated. a bit of a design flaw that can be very easily fixed. how about putting the transfer buttons first, and the first time user button below? maybe?

calculation issue
TurboTax seems to have a problem in the case where an overcontribution to an RRSP was previously made.
It wants to claim an RRSP deduction where none is allowed due to a negative deduction limit. It is not possible to enter a negative value in TurboTax.

Good tool except window for T-Slips hard to read
I've used Turbotax for many, many years; even before it was called Turbotax. I've generally been happy with the software however I've noticed the T-Slips window has been getting more difficult to read as screen technology improves. My new laptop has a UHD screen capable of very high resolution. However, when I use the recommended Windows resolution, the Turbotax screens become difficult to read, especially in the T-Slips window. You can zoom in/out in Easy Step mode but not in the T-Slips window.
Many current software applications allow users to zoom in and out. Turbotax should build a zoom feature to work with all their windows.

charitable donation form is confusing......had unused donations from previous years........seems I don't control what I can claim..... some old will exceed the 5 years so want to use them....where is the spot. then when I am finally done.....confused as to where carried forward to 2017 is..... shows on one spot but not on last line - unclaimed gifts to carry forward to 2017.
Forms need to be a bit cleared

Good but could be better
Turbotax Standard could benefit from the following:
1. Automatic conversion of USD T3 and T5 amounts to CAD at the average Bank of Canada exchange rate.
2. Regarding pension-splitting for seniors, it would save time if TurboTax could automatically select the optimum amount to split with one's partner.

Okay software, over-priced
This is okay software that is overpriced as Intuit really does not do any new development on it. I only use it because there are not alot of "offline" options out there. I find it annoying that they assume your windows tack bar is on the bottom of the screen. I have my task bar at the top and everytime I use help it goes under the task bar.

Help Files
I found that when explanations from HELP function were really needed, Turbo Tax's Help system was lacking. When needed for detailed advice, the help did not give enough useful detailed info to help make decisions.
Examples would be in the areas of;
1.Ont. Prop. tax and energy credit. Who best to claim? No help.
2. Home Energy Cost. How to come up with an amount. No help.
3.Explaining limits and advantages of Income Splitting. Feeble help.
4.Finding eligibility of claiming NOEC. No help
System already has the taxpayer's address. Can't the system be setup for automatic lookup?
Make it better, please.
Also, the refund amount did not dynamically change when medical expenses were entered and finalized. Could not see the difference until later in the inputting. Why?

Good for basic returns
Ive used this for years and have never had issues. In previous years we only had the usual type of returns to file but this year we had disability to add to it. Far more difficult than it had to be. I had submitted questions that were never answered. It needs a more efficient way for users to get answers.

The tax software is great, but the help files are out of date. For example, it explains that you have to apply for the GST credit and how to apply, but as of September 2016 no application is needed.

What I Think
This years version is not as easy to use as it was the previous few years. I liked when it used to show you the summary tax refund or tax owing amounts as you progressed through the tax return. I also feel that the optimum pension split amount should be shown earlier in the review optimizer. I used Turbo Tax since before it purchased its predecessor so I have seen a lot of changes to the program and this years changes are not the best version.

step by step
This software has changed from previous years. It does not take the user from start to finish. If you do not have information to be imported your are stranded and must resort to filling out forms.
The program should take user to input information as it moves along.

Its ok
It's ok, but it needs to be updated for new computers. I tried using it on my new laptop and was unable to see the return and forms properly. I ended up having to install it on my 10 year old computer in order for it to work. This leaves a lot to be desired if I cannot use it on a high res screen.

I had purchased this program direct from turbotax and have always been a supporter of your system, but this version has let me down, when it would not forward or process my return through netfile electronically regardless of my efforts & reviews. I had also reinstalled it several times.

Software is Chauvanistic
When we file our returns jointly, the software always asks my husband if his spouse is dependent on him, but it never asks me if my spouse is dependent on me, even though I consistently make more than he does.
It always assigns the charitable deductions to him, even though I file them under my return, and I paid more taxes and need the deduction more. I always have to transfer it back. It's ENRAGING!
