Not so easy this year
I've used Turbo Tax for a number of years. This version is not very easy to use if you need to change some of the fields automatically filled in from previous years, for example unclaimed RRSPs to carry forward. This will need to be improved for next year as it took my much longer to complete my filing compared to other years. And, I have a very straightforward filing to do.

Poor user interface
Fonts are light and very small -- most screens have large blank areas with no information. Why not allow a user to choose fant and colours?. Without help I could not use this product. I complain every year to no avail.

Help function getting worse
There used to be some very good features in help that would assist with the complexities of entering information. I find it has been degraded over the years, and in particular with regard to the information on business forms like the T1163, commodity codes, etc. I think perhaps the help function could be enhanced.

SAHM Doing family taxes
This is the second year in a row that we used turbo tax. I started using it to save the family some money, and using it has taught me more about taxes. So much you can claim if you have a busy family.

It would be better if you could look at all the forms and calculations during the review stage.
Also when entering the data for all the slips it shows only some of the data, unless you go to edit for each line. Also if you split the amounts between yourself and your spouse it only shows up in the final review.
Some areas are hard to follow or go to a specific area or form to have a look.

Buggy
I had to start my return again because the application gave me an error that could not be resolved. As well, I had to remember to go and do the northern deductions as the software did not ask me about the deductions. I've been using this program for over 7 years and this is the first time I am disappointed in its use.

disappointing after years of use
Unfortunately after many years of using TurboTax this might be my last. It all started with initial confusion as to which version to purchase. It did not seem clear at all that the "online" version was only good for one tax return. I therefore spent a long time on the phone explaining this and was given a refund...and then had to purchase the downloadable version. In using this version, I was unable to import last year's tax return, never had this problem in the past. This downloadable version did not seem to have any of the live help I've seen in the past...nothing was easy to look up. I had to resort to googling questions several times through the process - nothing seemed to be built in. Despite filling out my forms exactly as I have over the past decade or so, I was warned to fill in all sorts of strange, unfamiliar forms at the end...with no explanation once again. I would hesitate to use TurboTax in the future.

Not a google app
Many google apps streamline the process, simplify UI and add auto-correct, auto-fill, auto-suggest in a non-intrusive ways.
This application behaves like the best app of 90s. I think, it is time to move on.
1. It doesn't go through different possibilities to optimize on my tax savings. It does it on some small items, but not on the items that span several categories. For example I switch my eligible dependent by accident and instead of paying $1900 I'm getting $1500. That's a huge saving that the app never even suggested for me to try. I'm sure it is easy to quickly calculate different options with all my dependent and propose the best one for me.
2.When I switched the eligible dependent the application told me that I have an error, but when I clicked "Fix" button, it brought me to the list of dependents. It didn't show me which field on what screen for which dependent I need to modify. It took me a while to figure out which field is missing a value. That value I didn't know till I visited different screen in different part of the app (it was in the income section). When I copies the value from one field on income section to the correct box of one of the dependent the app immediately new that I fix the error. Could it just fix the problem for me to begin with? It didn't look like I had options to choose from, so the app didn't have options to choose from. It just was easier to code "hey user, fix it" than "if there is an error like that and there is only one option to fix it than bring to the screen, fill it with correct number and confirm with user that it is what they want". The first solution is a Microsoft approach. I prefer the second solution which is Google approach.
3. Entering medical receipts is time consuming. Most websites can remember what you typed before. I had 30 receipts and I had to type my name 30 times, the word "Dentist" 6 times, "Pharmacy" 14 times. I copy/paste the company name, so I didn't need to retype it.
4. When entering dates some fields do it dd/mm/yyyyy and some mm/dd/yyyy. When you enter reversed date it tells "ERROR!!!". Could it just switch and fix it? All dates have to be typed in full. "15/2/15" is not an acceptable value, neither is "feb 15 2015". It have to be "15/02/2015". What a pain in the neck! There is not even a calendar to pick a date.
By the way, do I have to enter a year? I'm making return for 2015. All my receipts are for 2015. Can it be a default with an option to enter year, if I wanted to bring something from different year?
5. When you go back to some screen you already did to fix a problem or to add additional receipt or dependent or something else there is no way to get back to where you came from. All you have is "Continue" which takes you thru all the different options that you already answered "It doesn't apply to me", so you have to do it again. That's annoying. As I said before take a look how Google streamlines processes.

Entering Rental Amount
This section is very confusing as you when you select the name for property rent it's actually the name for property tax so it was missed and now I'm going to have to return a printed revision......
TurboTax also gives you an error to fix (property tax must be entered) when you select the name and you have to ignore the error to make it work - not very good - not very happy about this......
