online services are time consuming and of little value - I tried to upgrade my software and was not able to due to website problems - in the end, it was more time efficient to buy the ugraded version

Hi, I've used this product for many years and have been generally happy with it. Unfortunately, this year the software kept crashing on my computer (program would stop responding and would close down). My computer is a Windows 7 laptops and fairly up to date (I use it every day for work and did not have any issues with any other software on it).

Good but not friendly to divorced parents
It was easy to use except being a divorced father it always pre-populates the child tax credit. Then I have to fumble my way through the forms and remove it.

GOOD SOFTWARE when it works
I have used it for 7 years now. I used the premium edition before. This year I tried the standard. It malfunctined twice. So, unless they find the problem and fix it, I will be doing it manually from now on. It will take a long time, but will be well worth the practice.
Hope they find the problems and fix them first, before they sell it.

Lots of little bugs
With the change in the user interface this year, I found numerous little bugs that made it a lot more difficult to complete my families tax returns. Further other areas for improvement: being able to have more then one return open at a time, being able to print forms from the interview view. I was disappointed with the software this year and I've used it for over 20 years now.

Was a good purchase in the past
It was a good purchase in the past. This year, it didn't work right and it created a lot more hassle to do taxes than in has in the last decade.

I have been using this software for several years but it is beginning to become bloated with offers and services that I do not want. If I pay for the product I don't expect to have to be bombarded by all these ads.

improvements
It seems from memory that it used to be easier to use in the past. Now it asks more questions at the start that have no relevance to me, but at the same time if a relevant question is asked and misanswered, that topic will not be covered.
A longstanding irritation with your program is the forms view, where all the minimized forms cannot be identified, and must be opened to find the one you are looking for. I know you can go to find form, but that is a pain every time.
I am going to check out taxchopper, as I used its help section for a tuition transfer question that turbo did not answer well.

hmm
Too much effort put forth trying to upsell to next version. More effort should be put into user friendly issues. Not trying to sell me more features at seemingly various steps throughout.
Warnings on review caused me to go back to check things that were fine.

Not improved
This is the 4th year I've used the product. This year saw an update to the software that largely reconfigured how the program works. I found it more confusing and the program worked at a snail's pace. Often it would bog down. Many times throughout the process I would get a "Not Responding" message, wait a minute or so and it would finally work.
This update is a fail. However the previous year's success and the simplified Netfiling were some saving graces.

good but slow
Turbo tax is a good program for entering a lot of different types of tax information, and in finding credits and maximizing refunds.
However, in this year's version, some of the the refund optimizer parts of the program did not work properly and I had to decide myself how much to carry over vs. declare this year. Also, the program was very slow to operate, and there was often a lag between entering information and having it register on the screen, or in moving between screens. This made it somewhat frustrating to use.

Needs work
I had to call my niece who is an account because I found an error in the program. Turbo Tax doubled my donations and iI could not correct them. The accountant advise me to enter only half of what I donated. Why would it do that. Then when I printed the copy after I had filed I did not get a copy of the whole form. So did the entire report get there? I don't think so. How do I find out if all is OK. Now I am stressed because I do't know if the whole file is there.

Some things could be improved
There should be a way to drop information from an Excel spreadsheet into the forms. I had over 100 lines of data entry to make on investment trades, and had to enter it all, one cell at a time. On the numerical fields, I could not even do a copy/paste from Excel into turbo tax.

The main problem I had was trying to clear the erroneous industry code copied from a previous return.
how was I to know that these were available in the "help" ---wasted many hrs on this as it prevented me from netfiling my return.

program bug
There is a bug in the program regarding rental income:-
using easy step, say if one entered 50% as co-ownership, the program would not retain that value but rather re-vert back to 0% if you every go back to that easy step again.
The other comment on selection of none of the rental address is confusing and useless, probably also due to the bug mentioned above too.

So-so.
Layout and setup for forms-based mostly unchanged from last year, wizard still clueless and repetitive. Electronic filing process for Ontario failed for no particularly good reason, forced to use the "manual upload' option.
Still probably the best of available tools on the market, but does not justify the year on year price increase - considering an alternative tax package for 2015.

Not As Good As Past Years
Don't know if others ran into the same issue but when it came time to Netfile, it was supposedly unable to connect so I went plan B to Netfile manually. The first thing the pgm. had me do was save my return as a .netfile file. Hmmm. Shouldn't this have been done before the auto upload was attempted? Seems to me in past years the software did have you save the CRA format file 1st and then do the upload.
Other things that irked me was not being able to save whenever you wanted - in some cases you had to get past a few screens or go back a few screens until you hit a point where Save became active.
More in-context (blue text) help would have been nice too - there were a few times I wanted to see just how a term was defined just to make sure I had the right idea about it but I had to search the help in order to do so. I'm fairly well-educated (University degrees) but when it comes to taxes I don't mind having things spelled out for me.
Still beats doing taxes by pencil and paper by far but it just didn't have the same feeling of ease I experienced with it in past years.

Not As good as previous years
I've been using TurboTax and previous incarnations for more than 10 years. Overall I'm finding the guided process ( Easy Interview) to be more and more confusing year over year. I also had a fair bit of trouble this year with finding help information. Lastly the new Netfile did not work. I had to manually upload the file, just as in previous years

Clumsy, not intuitive
Inputting the basic information is easy and works well. However, It is awkward to be unable to have shortcuts to alternate among pages/forms recently used. Making changes can be awkward as well--if TT switches to the correct page/form, the user must hunt for the correct line. It would also be nice if the Tax Form increased in size with Ctrl+ and not just the TT info. TT seems to be harder to use than a few years ago.

Used Trubo many years
There has been changes made to the Turbo program for filing 2014 year. Some good, some a little annoying. 1) my name appears every step, I personally found this to be annoying 2) used bookmark with the understanding all I had to do when I went back into the program (same person). Clicked on bookmark again and again with no results. Help only told me how to access a bookmark, did not solve my problem. I like that amount owing or refund is always displayed.
Turbo is a good tax program. Updates availability comes up so one feels confident the program is always up to date.

defaults
I found the defaults for deductions not tied to any one person frustrating - I thought I had a correct number for tax owing and then realized deductions had been defaulted from my husband to myself, even though they were entered in his return, and there's absolutely no advantage in shifting them to me - I don't know if the default is to older person or what governs it, but I'd rather it wasn't there when there are no tax rules mandating who takes the deduction and no advantage to one person over another.
