decreasing usefulness
despite the ease of use, TT standard has less utility each year. This year there were uncertainties about rental revenue forms being included. If they disappear from TT standard I will either have to purchase a more expensive version for no reason or change tax software. Also, TT sends me reminders each year to buy early, when if I wait I can get the same TT version for less money at a big box store.

Simple
Is not pro friendly. Over riding the return is difficult.
I would prefer a in depth summary page.

very confusing
In Past years I have this product to be very helpful and easy to use. This year with the changes that have been made it is now very confusing. Two thumbs down and now that want to nickel and dime you is you need help understanding the soft ware is it is not allowing to do what it should be able to do. For example elegible transfer college tuition and fees from a depend to a parent.

Not thrilled
Turbo tax is for the average tax user. It continually 'fixed' my medical expenses to the spouse with lesser income. While this might seem helpful, it caused the amount I owed to quadruple. I found going back frustrating. Entering the medical expenses by date was ridiculous, so I used year end dates, I am not entering weekly chiropractor appointments. Also I am a US citizen and turbo tax did not like this very much. I am not thrilled with the product.

comparison to prior years
you need a report that compares last year to this year. Also you need a report that illustrates a five year history. TurboTax US has both of these.

T4A Troubled
Program is excellent until I had to claim the T4A amount and deductions for box 127 Veterans Benefits. All went well until the Netfile stage which indicated a fix. After much frustration with the help people I gave up and used the print and mail option.
Hope is fixed for next year.

I didn't update the turbo tax before I started and when I got to the end I had to update everything, and it then erased all the work I did. Seriously frustrating.

BUGS
Besides the start up bugs, the program itself is very good, very thorough, very easy to use. I'm not sure why Turbo Tax is having problems but they will lose a lot of it's Market Share if they don't get this resolved.

Do Not Use Question Mode
Entering the data using forms works OK. Using the "Question Mode" is a disaster. If you do not want to waste a lot of time saying "no" to a bunch of irrelevant questons, use the "forms mode" instead. Also if you make a mistake using the "Question Mode" it is not possible to make the corrections. I learned the hard way and had to re-enter the data using the "Forms Mode".

Used Turbo Tax for the 1st time last year and found it much easier to use than this year's version -- especially when it came to using the "optimize" feature to determine most beneficial outcome.

my experience
1) the info on the box the disc comes in says "get answers to your product questions by phone 7 days a week" can someone tell me where to find the phone number if I have a problem?
2) I find the results of the optimizers difficult to ascertain.
3) the bookmark feature is one I have never figured out.
4) I find it difficult to go back and change something if it is necessary to do so
5) The program is very good at slotting the numbers in all the locations that they need to go to.

glitchy this year
I've been using Turbo Tax for years but this year I had a few issues with it. The "Optimize" feature froze a few times, then it would tell me it couldn't "Optimize" and I had to go back and forth with a few sections such as donations, trying to "optimize" them myself. That is part of the reason I use Turbo Tax is that it usually makes those features very easy. I didn't even put in medical expenses this year, thank goodness, don't have the patience for it. Hopefully next year it will work properly again.

There should be the ability to print select screens or at least copy text from a page and paste into other documents. This would be useful on pages showing Trillium Benefit amounts and schedule of payments, and also on the Netfile confirmation page. I believe this feature was available in prior years! Please give it back to us.

shortcomings
Having used Turbo tax for many years ( previous name was different) I really had no problem navigating through the process.
The new version leaves a lot to be desired:
1. I have problem going back to the place I was before!
2. review options are very cumbersome and very repetitive. If I have looked the warning and recommendations once possibly twice, why do I see the same thing again and again.
3, was alerted to an error and the program suggested to fix it, but no clear instruction of how to!
These are some of the concerns I have with the program.

The new format was very easy to follow, however we did experience major frustrations when we tried to file and print, as there was an update to the program, which took us 2 hours to find and install. This is the first time we have had issues with the program, so will continue to use product, but would appreciate automatic updates, or warnings at the beginning of the cd.

I was irratated this year with the changes to the no free tax help, and that at the end of the summary it was not easy to navigate away from if you wanted to netfile later, so I did not like that at all. Also found that going back to review or make changes was not as good as previous years either for that feature. New is not always better.

netfile
In previous years we have been able to netfile the tax return for members of my family who are not clients. This year no such luck. Disapointing to say the least. The package does not indicate that only my own return will qualify for netfile. Will look for a different tax prep program next year after 10 + years with Turbo.

I think turbo tax is great. I particularly like the easy step and review. I live in a northern community and I think you still have to have a general knowledge of taxes to use the program.

Crashed twice
Windows 8.1 bought the computer to do taxes. Turbo tax crashed twice. Saved copy would not allow me enter rrsp info. Had to start over again.

Disappointed with certain 2014 changes
I wanted to print or save a pdf copy of the Detailed Tax Summary to review the changes from 2013 to 2014 in my tax return. The software wanted to count printing this form against my return filing limit. I was told by the online chat that this is new for 2014.
Since this form is never submitted to the government as part of filing the return, it should not count against my limit.
