Easy to Use; Ads & Upsells Really Annoy
TurboTax truly does make filing your taxes easy, and relatively painless. That said, there are two areas that really lower my rating:
1. There are CONSTANT ads and upsells throughout the process of completing your return. It really is infuriating to have ad after ad, upsell suggestion after upsell suggestion. It's gotten to the point where I'm considering using another software program. That's a shame since it's otherwise easy to use and helpful. They have to stop that - it's not free software, after all.
2. The software raises lots of false "flags" and "errors" at the end , when there are in fact usually no errors or flags - they appear to instead be more of a "things you should double check". Unless you're a tax guru, the flags and errors make little or no sense to a layperson, and you can spend a lot of time much time chasing down and trying to figure out what turns out to be nothing.

not as user friendly as previous years
The fix it instructions in the review section are not clear enough. It took a considerable amount of trial and error and experimentation before I could eliminate the errors so that Netfile would work. Ultimately I did this through the forms instead of Easy Step process because I couldn't figure out what the problem was using Easy Step. Previous versions of this program were great. This one was fine for basic things but the fix it instructions need to be tweaked.

retiring guy
This did not handle severance very well, my first attempt result in a $10000 tax bill, my 10th attempt with the same information was a $1600 tax payable. I likely should have had a tax rebate had I had time to play with it.
For most years when things are VERY basic this is great. This year and last I should have paid an accountant.
The 3 star rating is because my kids use this for their very simple returns. I have bought this software every year since it was first made, but this year it nearly cost me a whole bunch of money, and I am sure that I will spend the next 6 months trying to get things straight with CRA. I wish I had not used it.

Lots of Waist time
I am using your tax software for many years and the over all is okay, but When I do My spouse and mine return together it drives me crazy. If I am working on my wife return or mine, for no reason in the middle of no were it switches to my wife or mine .Especially if I am entering T 5 0r T3 information's it switches the other spouse. This is maddening and really upsetting, thus screw up all my time .You must fix this, it is terrible and lots time is wasted. So if I work on my file or my wife' file Absolutely I don't want the computer switching file, it should stay on the same file unless I click the square of the other file. Please fix this it is a huge problem, otherwise I will stop getting your program, so they are my friends.

Got it filed finally
Had a few issues with carry-forwards from previous years. Have been using CanTax, QuickTax/TurboTax for at least 15 years.
My carry-forwards for Capital Losses didn't exist and I had a lot of trouble getting them in and deducting.
Also almost none of the 2012 Detail got carried forward

why?
I don't like the advertising for your various other products. I had several returns to do and this is just a huge timewaster and annoyance. I paid enough money for the program to do my taxes not to have to deal with your marketing people.

Pension Splitting Confusing
The pension splitting part of this software is unnecessarily confusing. The requirement to manually make a decision of which pension will be split is NOT necessary and leads to a very time consuming trial and ERROR process that I cought just in time. The software does not allert you to the fact that you may have chosen to split the wrong pension to pay the least tax. The optimizer only works with the manual decision on which pension you "guess" should be chosen.

works OK, but too many glitches and non-sequitur problems. That may be OK in the Windows world, but coming from Mac it makes me frustrated. I will not buy this again until there is a Mac version.

good, except...
There continues to be a problem with some fields (capital gains calculations for instance) where numbers are too large and the box just says "overflow" or something like that instead of indicating a number. How hard could it be just to allow a large number of digits to appear (even if it is a ridiculously large amount, like 12 digits)?

some minor problems
Good product but netfiling on April 28, 2014 was a problem. It indicated internet connection failure and will be locked out after 5 attempts. After 3 attempts I got worried. It appears others had the same problem. I did not like that you had to go through this process to get a .tax file if this did not work. Next day everything was back on track so problem was fixed quickly but it was the lock after 5 that was concerning given my internet was working fine.

disappointed
This year's return software vs. 2012 was confusing in completing steps unlike previous year. Seemed visually busy and unclear in steps. This year was a confusing struggle and i am left feeling my tax return may not be entirely correct to my benefit.
A contributing factor could have been having mistakenly purchased Standard version vs. Basic. Won't make that mistake again.

Why when you enter an income for 104 research why do you not automatically let me start deducting from it in the easy steps?
Takes way to long to jump between steps.
Netfile from turbo tax didn't work this year (again) for me.

Each time I went to net file it told me NO internet connection detected. Even coming here to rate the software, yet it finally loaded. It seems each year the software get more cumbersome and less user friendly. Harder to find / search forms.

The EasyStep process brought up the RRSP wizard to determine best possible contribution but never went to the actual contribution page. I had to fiddle with it over and over again to get my RRSP contributions to be saved. Also the Netfile process didn't work properly claiming there was no network connection when there was. I had to do the manual netfile (not the default) to get the process to complete. Much more a pain this year than previous years.

When Turbo Tax starts it seems to scan through all my ebooks (I have several). This causes Turbo Tax starting up for up to 5 - 10 minutes. I would like to see a fix that will circumvent this problem.

Medical Optimization
Be careful when using Medical Expense Optimization. It optimizes the medical expense deduction, but in my case that caused a huge increase in our total taxes because my tax bracket is higher than my wife's. Better strategy is to check one of the baxes about which return to take the deduction, then go back and do the other, and ultimately confirm whichever gives the lowest tax. Don't assume that the optimization button will do that for you - it doesn't.

Program is not intuitive
I've been using this program for several years and every year it gets more and more complicated. The wording in the 'Easy Steps Wizard' is very confusing. The FIRST question asked is if I worked in the year 2013, which automatically brings up a lot of unnecessary questions since I was self-employed and the questions for that section are in a completely different area. THIS PROGRAM NEEDS BETTER USER TESTING!

If you open form by mistake it will drag behind forewer. Difficult to navigate (even easy step). Of all years I buy this program this one was most difficult, used help multiple times and must admit was disapointed. On line posting from others helped as I was battling through it.

Useful but confusing
It works well but some of the warnings are hard to understand. Capital gains/losses carry forwards carry back could be a lot better. There should be a tool to help you make a choice. Some deductions such as disability are not carried forward from one year to the next. This is a very bad flaw.
