It's not easy!
This software booted be out the first time I input all of the info for myself & spouse. I had to begin from scratch again. It would be good to have a warning that this might happen.
The drop down sections are not well indicated. This year there is some information required that was not required in previous years.
The info on the right hand side was helpful.
Altogether it was a frustrating experience given that I have 20+ years of financial experience and had all of the pertinent info at hand. I do not feel confident about the results of my income tax return.

A bit buggy
It crashed while using EasyStep. Lost the information, since a save hadn't happened yet
When going back to use the charity donation optimizer after having done the review step, the optimizer did not show dynamic results of any changes.

Update program first
The update feature should be mandatory the first time you want to use the program, otherwise you get to the end and can't file online because you didn't update. When you update, then you have to restart your computer, at least I did, possibly because I still use windows xp. Online help, was very helpful and patient, even waited for my old computer to restart.

The TurboTax "tax savings" hints and calculations are all geared to middle- or higher-income cases. If you're a low-income family, you will find that TT is not very helpful in giving you the information you need to maximize your various low-income tax credits, etc.

Donation calculation wouldn't work
I chose to carry forward this year's donations to next year, but it wouldn't let me do it. Kept saying there were overrides I had entered? Weird and frustrating and I wasted about 30 minutes re-entering and finally deleting all donations.
Other than that glitch it is a great program. Easy to follow!

annoyed by all the ads/offers
good product but too many ads and offers. extremely annoying while you're trying to complete the return. that adds more screens to an already screen heavy software. suggest to have an option at the beginning of the return whether user wants to see any ads/offers throughout the return.

Turbo tax can be improved if you make navigation a little easier. Going back and forth to check things is cumbersome. It would be good to go from an a number in the summary to where the input was. It took me a long time to find out where a number in my summary which was not correct had come from. Where had I made a mistake in the entries.

Issues with .NET framework
Had to continually re-install and run after installation. If I ever closed it, I would get an error when trying to open it again. My TurboTax 2012 program still opens without issue, so I'm not sure why 2013 is giving problems.
I checked medical expenses, but realized I was below the threshold for deductions. I went to my Personal Profile and deselected it, but still got medical warnings etc during review. I couldn't force TurboTax to realize that I didn't want medical expenses included anymore.

Used to be great
I've used Turbo Tax for years. I did my son's taxes. He qualified for the Graduate Retention Rebate. Turbo Tax says the return should be $1430.00. His return came back of only $179.00??? What's happening?
Now I can't submit this review because It said I didn't answer I would recoomend this prodict to my friends; but I have.

Failing upgrades
I have been having a lot of trouble with the updates this year. I suspect it is because of all your live screens that are trying to sell me your advice, most upgrades fail. My advice, clean up your scripts.

Hard to Read screen
This is the third year in a row I have asked TurboTax to change the font color from light blue to BLACK. Every year it has taken me longer and longer to do my income tax just because I can not see the print on the pages and have to magnify every page. This would not be necessary if the type was in BLACK. This is a good product but if a person can not see the writing clearly and ends up missing the right boxes to click on it is time to find another product.

Could be much better
A few beefs about Turbotax:
- too many extra clicks need to decline sales offers
- auto opens Internet Explorer even tho that's not my preferred browser
- didn't remind me to use prior years' losses
- not easy to use unless you already know what you're doing
I keep using it because it's the "devil I know" but it could be much better!

yikes
not intuitive enough and program made it difficult to input my rrsp deduction, capital losses, and o file/save the return. wont use this serrvice again. Might as well use the Gov'ts service..... even the rating tool was a pain.

I have used Turbo tax (Quick Tax) for at least 10 years. I have only ever bought the standard edition. This year, I found the easy step did not lead me to enter all my income sources. If I had not known to enquire how to enter my capital gains, I would not have been directed to do so. Previous editions asked me the appropriate questions.

Not comprehensive enough
When using easy steps, foreign pension income is asked for and recorded. This amount is correctly put in line 115. However, when we arrive at the deduction steps, no attempt is made to make a deduction allowed under foreign treaty and show this in line 256. One has to go to Forms, look for line 256, double click on it and enter the amount and give the reason for the deduction. Why make it so difficult?

Not user-friendly
First time using TurboTax, but I've filed online 2 years prior using other software. Did not find TurboTax all that user friendly. Would have liked a sidebar overview of all categories so I would know if I've missed something. Many times, I had to go back and see if I've missed entering a form because it seemed relevant in a particular area, when in fact the program had not gotten to that point yet. Some of the questions were also unclear and worded in a way that many people may not know what is meant. I will probably use a different software next year.

It took a while to get used to the program. On one return I was 3/4 of the way through entering data, and I chose to not save information, and I was booted out of the return and had to start over.
Also, I had difficulty moving around the data pages, compared to other tax software I have used. I like to be able to see all data entered in one place, and this software doesn't seem to do that.
I did like the way it calculated and showed the maximum way to split pension income between my wife and I to maximize our refund. If we get the refund as the returns were Netfiled, I am happy.

Too Much Advertising
This year's version of the TurboTax software has a LOT more advertising for additional services such as wills, which I found extremely annoying. Ditch the ads.

Why all the ads?
More ads than ever. Used to be you only got there ad for checking audit gaurantee. There was at least 4 ads when I went through my return. I'd expect that if I didn't pay for the software, but when I paid full price, forget it. Lame. I'm probably going to try something else next year because of it.
