netfile set up is confusing
The basic flow has changed, is more confusing and the netfile portion doesn't make sense. It used to be easy but it no longer is.

FORMS
fonts used are too small and difficult to read.
There is no apparent way to increase the size of the form and it only fills 25% of the page. It's a pain in the eye!

It's ok
I have used this software for years and found it to be very user friendly. My only complaint is that they use to have a dependents optimizer that I found very useful in determinig who should claim the child expenses....it has since been removed and it now takes me a bit of time to play with the program to figure it out for myself.....others may not realize the benefits.

IT improvement required
An IT improvement is required in the Quebec Provincial as Medical taxable benefits are considered as income and gives the right for a worker benefit. This is not true for retirees who are not allowed this benefit. I had to cheat the system to progress and disallow the benefit.
Another glitch at the end whereby Foreign income shown as interest blocks at the end and asks you to put in as a T3 income when it is in fact a T5. Another cheat of the system to progress

Not as Good as Previous Versions
Still a good way to prepare taxes, but not as good as prior versions. Too much in program attempt to up-sell and redundant questions, slows down preparation of return. Should be an "expert" path, somewhere between straight forms entry and the slow, deliberate, guided path.

Good but careful of errors
Makes tax filing easy, but be careful of bugs.
I have found that after getting an error, the software told me I owed many thousands of dollars when in fact I was due a refund. Luckily, I had saved a version before the error and was able to save many hours of rework.

Getting Worse
Glitches this year. Had to return to enter mailing address even though I checked the box as same as home. Final question after printing about interest from Canadian sources not correct but US dividend included in total.
May look for another program next year. Not impressed.

Happy and Unhappy
I have used and will continue to use this program because of its many time saving features. I was not as please this year because of issues navigating between sections. The program kept indicating a selection that I had deselected. In this case I changed my mind on selecting medical expenses since I would not reach the threshold; however, it kept showing that I needed to select a 12 month period. I would like the forms option to blend itself with the easy steps better when navigating between the two.

TurboTax - Other Boxes
The Turbo Tax form could be better designed to make the Other Boxes button more visible, or better still, show these other boxes right in the main part of the T3 screen.

Too Many Ads
This is the first year of using TurboTax.
I have always used other programs.
Compared to other products I have used, this program has many way it can be improved.
Way too many ads trying to buy audit defend and reviews.
I think if I had never used a program in the past, it would be difficult for me to remember to enter all of my slips.
Difficult to navigate backwards to find a page you want to fix.

Weaker Product This Year
I ran across a frustrating glitch this year in the calculation of kilometers entered between old and new residence in moving expense sections. In years past, I was able to save and come back to sections of my tax return feeling secure that what I previously entered was saved and would stay the same until I made a change. Not so this year with the Kilometers recorded for the distance of a move. These numbers would change randomly from 311 km to 6 km no matter what format I typed in or how many times I saved in either easy interview step or forms view. If I selected the back button my information changed to a default of 6 km and 4 km. Go figure!

So-So
There were 3 errors in the programme that frustrated me and made me call support to find out what I was to do. I spent twice as much time on my return than necessary with this programme. There were 2 places in the Easy Step where if you change the selection it doesn't change on the actual return and so if you aren't that tax return savvy you will not know what to do to change the return.

medical expenses
The optimizer didn't seem to work. All it would do is
shift between the two of us, not pick ing the best scenario.
Also at the end of the review it told me that we were claiming too much medical and charitable donations which was not true at all.

Makes tax filing easier
Overall a good product and it is easy to use.
The major downfall is that you cannot import Medical Expenses from a spreadsheet (ie Excel). Assuming most people who claim medical expenses have many receipts to itemize, this oversight is surprising.

Ok for Very Basic Returns
I had a couple of items to claim from my 2012 taxes that were missed and I was not able to claim them with this tax program. I found that to be disappointing. Either the program does not offer that function or it was not clear or easy to find out how to perform this type of task. Overall, if a tax return is very basic (with no catching up to do) I think this program was very easy to follow and fairly uncomplicated.

Most annoying purchase
It is very difficult to make it reverse an error made by checking something you didn't need. Everytime I tried to go back and uncheck something it came up I couldn't do it and when I went to the very beginning & started over and took off checks it still annoyed me by saying you must use no in the drop down box and I did & it still so I had to delete it and start all over

Not very clear for newbies
I'm not sure it's government requirements, or TurboTax itself, but I did not find filing an easy experience at all. It saved me a lot in accountants' fees, but in the end, I'm just not sure I filed correctly at all! To save money, I just filed without paying for further assistance. If there are any issues, the government will surely let me know.
