user interface is to be improved
Though I have used this SW for a few years, I still found the user interface is not very good. There's a lot of confusion when making selections. I wonder how Turbotax designed the interface. It is not too difficult to gather users at different level of experience (never filed tax and never used Turbo tax, filed tax return but never used Turbo tax, used Turbotax for a few years but not tax expert; tax experts and familiar with Turbotax) to test the user interface. I suggest to put a lot of guidelines.

Getting worse
This version has a poor user interface. Medical receipts from the same source (e.g. a Pharmacy)
does not allow copying data from one entry to the next. Only allowing one charitable receipt entry per screen is tedious and slows down the data entry.
How to clear program detected warnings and errors, most of which could be eliminated by suitable data entry earlier in the EASY STEP PROCESS, is seldom clear.
A very frustrating experience.

Would Not Run After Install
The program would not start after loading on my new computer. The information in the box did not work and I spent about a half hour searching on line for a fix. The program was easy to use after I fixed it. I probably won't purchase this program again.

Need for improvements
The software needs some basic improvements to user-friendliness, particluarly being able to enlarge the size of the font and to increase the contrast of the font with the background. Not everone may worry about this, but the miniature grey font on white background gets pretty dim by the time you work on the third return.
Also, why does it tell you to fix the 12 month period on medical expenditures when non are entered?
The convenience of filing taxes with the software is nice, but I'm glad I only have to put up with these issues once a year.

Doesn't save reliably
I did a complete tax return, saved it, went back the next day to review it again, and it was gone. I searched the computer for it, found the file name, clicked on it, and was told the short cut was broken. There was no other trace of the saved file. I had to redo the entire return, and while doing so recalled that I had the same exact experience last year. Not happy. Will use a different program next year.

It was a good purchase
I found it easy to use, and easy to find explanations. The problem I did encounter however was that the program froze n me twice. I lost all my data and had to restart.
Seemed to be having issues with Windows 7.

OK for taxes
The turbotax program is decent but perhaps not as good as quicktax. I noticed fewer helpful suggestions, some help topics not explained well. Also the program changed dates and data on my medical expense worksheet when I used the medical expense optimizer so I ended up reentering all the info and avoiding the optimizer. So don't count on turbotax to think for you.

Optimizers
I was disapointed that whithout knowing myself to change the child fitness and art deductions from one spouse to the other, I would have been paying a $4000 tax bill rather than receiving a $900 rebate. There doesn't seem to be an optimizer in place for those type of deductions.

uncertainty

total confused with tuition transfer from dependent. very unclear difference between "federal" and "provincial" transfer. Couldn't see where the amount actually went.
can integrate spousal return, but does not integrate dependent return. How much tutition should I transfer from dependent to myself?

Too cumbersome to use. Difficult getting back to a previous page.

This program is OK; however, you can't have 2 forms open at the same time so you have to open and shut as you do related returns. It seems the error code TT600 occurs commonly.

Went to forms and could not get myself back to the answer and continue stream. Had to start all over, then income showed as double actual so had to find my way to a correction.
Should be a LARGE flag with tax sharing optimizer if it gives an answer above allowed limit. Was caught in the final review but that is late in the process.

Some frustrating parts
The routine to claim medical records was really confusing. We elected to let my spouse claim all medical expenses, but to proceed to entering the next receipt, it always came back to me.

I had a few problems with TT. It crashed my computer twice. I could not print indvidual pages such as the Sumuary Page. Jumping from page to page was not as easy as it could have been, particularly when you are at the end and want to go back to somewhere near the begining. I could not Netfile due to some error which the program did not explain well enough for me to find so I filed a printed copy. TT worked for me much better last year than it did the year.

Errors
For the first time in years I was frustrated by error catches which didn't exist or which referred me to a page via an erroneous link so that I ended up on the wrong page. My taxes are filed now but I am honestly not sure if they are correct. This is a first. What a let down.

2012 Program flaws.
Transferred 2011 returns, they never appeared in the proper location, even though the files were transferred.
Some income placed in the wrong location on the forms so never recorded as income. Had to review and reinstall income manually in appropriate box.
Easier to use than past but some missing links in this package.

sending on netfile
there are 4 members of my family that now need to file a return. The degree of difficulty to file for 2 members was difficult. They couldn't use netfile...it wouldn't let them complete the process.

Difficult to go back to check obvious input errors as only summaries appear.
Places where language is ambiguous because more than one meaning can be read into a term or chosen word.
Confusing directions about inclusion of lists (charitable donations and medical records) - one place says 'list', while another, later, after list is complete, says 'list not necessary'.

Handy but awkward when reviewing
Was handy to use but still (after 4 years) is quite awkward when trying to review and edit the info. Except for trying to get through that maze (and it can seem like a maze), it is worth using with it's straight forward approach through the process.
