trouble with turbo
out of country advisors don't know the answers,this year when trying to find best situation turbo did not automaticlly make corrections almost lost refunds ,had to manually review each claim and correct ,i was lucky here

We just switched to Windows 8. We used Easystep to do our returns. We had difficulty with the Charitable Donations and Medical Expense Optimizers. The first time we did our returns it didn't work then when we went through another check it did. Who knows why. Also, it is difficult to get back to a particular section in one part of Easystep once you have gone to a previous section to change something. Particularly frustrating with Review, you have to step through the entire process again. Would also be nice to print Summary, Medical Expenses, Charitable Donations pages once entered.

could not quickly go back to one area unless i had already set up a flag there. had to start back at the beginning of the "chapter" and wait until my section came up. sometimes, i just wanted to see the box number i was filling out in forms at the same time as the easy step but could not simulateneously.

still best for the money
I found the 2011 tax year product easier to use then this one. going in and out of the forms just to much. amounts were not going to areas were they should go and to file your records through the browse the search was not picking up the right file name.

Screen print TOO small, TOO faint!
When using the step-by-step process, the print on the screen is TOO small, and is VERY faint -- needs better contrast.
I have a brand new monitor, and every other program I use shows up very well. Turbo Tax is awful!! I have to squint at the screen to read the words, and the summaries in the gray boxes are totally unreadable.
I'll be looking around for a new tax program.

Good program but not intuitive
When I complete my personal profile I've indicated that I did not make any RRSP contributions. Yet TurboTax wants to optimize my RSSP contributions at a later step. Why?

2012 Standard Return.
The way you changed this program from last year is not very good. It is to hard to go back if you have missed something and have to correct it.
When you go back you start over from the first of the section you needed and it waste a lot of time getting back to where you need to go.
Please go back to the format you use in Quick Tax.

ERROR with Filing for Education Transfer credits!!
Education Tuition transfer DOES NOT WORK with Provincial amount section. Selecting transfer to PARENT button under Federal section DOES NOT default the Provincial portion to the same!!!
Error in filing return as there is NO opportunity to select either Spouse or Parent under Provincial Education transfer credits. Filed as transfer to SPOUSE incorrectly, after PARENT selected under Federal transfer section. Cannot change!
Caught this after filing one return, but prior to a second one for another son. Please update your software! This error should have been caught, due to number of filers who have kids going to University or Colleges.

Join returns after started as individual.
Would it not have been the best thing ever if I would have been able to put my return and the return of my husband together after I started them as individual returns.
Having to put all of the information in again was not fun and easy at all.
Will look for another program next season that will allow me that option.

glitch
After entering info from slips, a form appeared that asked for several types of income including dividend. It did not say that this was only for items not entered from slips. I alomost entered the same income twice and could have missed that!

Not for Mac Why?
This use to be a great program but now it will not run on my Mac. A lot of people own Macs so why not?
I did my taxes on an old PC laptop. I will be looking for a Mac friendly program next year.

It's okay
If you use this product year after year and you don't change your financials much this is a great product. Have fun if you have to change your dependant status or print forms that are in addition to the regular T1 General. These two factors took two hours off of my life however, I know now what I'll do next year. For my particular situation, it cost less than an accountant and I didn't have to leave my home.

Missing Prompts
We've been using Turbo Tax for a number of years. This year, it missed all kinds of expense prompts and it forgot to ask me to file my taxes. It was a bit like I didn't exist. I continually had to go back to find my prompt to do what was necessary. What has happened. If I didn't know how to do my taxes, they would have been submitted incorrectly.

Not happy
I was not happy that you are now charging for online help with an accountant. Previously there has been no charge and it worked well for me as I always have a question or two. I struggled this year as I could not use my transfer information as I was reassessed last year and the amount of my 2012 RRSP deduction limit changed. I could not find a way to amend it.

First problem ever
I have been using Intuit tax software for many years and this is the first time I had a problem. The tax summary had an incorrect amount in the Dividends, Investment and Intrest line under Income. I noticed the amount when reviewing. When looking for where it came from (T5) it differed by about 8 times the amount I input. I resolved the problem by deleting my entire tax return and redoing it. After that the amount on that line matched the amount on the T5. I did see many complaints on the FAQS about this problem, so am wondering what fix Intuit was making for it and why that fix was not downloadable.

Spent hours-
I've used Turbo Tax for years for multiple times each year.
This year I spent hours trying to netfile 1st return. The radio button for net file would not highlite. The Netfile video was garbage too.
Eventually got a fix by going on line.
I'm too busy for this type of problem. Probably going with other program next year. I guess you get one chance to mess up.

Foreign Income Problems

not bad to use. Not as easy as just following thru the forms.
Can't backtrack once in review
No easy find to go from "forms" to the tab section.
Don't like it when it erases info when checking the tips section and then going back.
Not that easy to follow for a person who is not good with a computer. Some people would have a hard time following this.
Not all info was entered, had to go into forms to finish it for myself.
Put the tips and stuff in a section by itself so it doesn't affect the amount entered on the forms. The average person won't catch the glitch.

File for Deceased Person
If you get out of the standard path such as preparing for a deceased person TurboTax is less than average as it doesn't ask you enough questions to properly guide you. You have to be in this case the tax expert or you can miss a lot of opportunities. As an example all the optimaziations with the deceased spouse are not enabled and you have to try them manually. I was disappointed. Software needs improvement in this case

works ok, if you are not technical
I have been using turbo (nee quick)tax for years now. It does all the filing and such, and walks you through the steps effectively.
I have two issues:
- It still after several years, doesn't actually modify the donations info, though it tells you to consolidate. the Wizard does nothing but tease. it should actually Do the Consolidation for you when you click YES. it's a lot of double-key-punching to move all the info from one spouse to another. It used to do this, but hasn't in the past 3 years I think.
- It is still using InternetExplorer to do the work. I keep an old Windows computer around for the almost exclusive purpose of filing taxes. I run Linux, not Windows or Mac. If you used Firefox as underpinning, it would likely be more cross-platform, windows included.

A glitch
My copy would only launch from the installation dialogue. I could never get it to launch from the screen icon, or from its exe-file. Consequently, I had to re-install the package on several occasions.
