better late
We got three hundred dollars more back by leaving medical expenses on the higher income earner and not using the "optimizer's recommendation" of putting it on my return. But did like the easy step navigation very easy to use.

not the most easiest
I took me 4 hours to figure out that i needed to upgrade interenet explorer to file. No changes allowed to use firefox in the tools menu. Finally done however.

Going back from income portion
Whan I went back while filling out the income portion of the return in Easy Step mode, and then went forward, I found that the income was doubled. In other words $50.000 became $100.000.
To fix this I had to start over.

Too many advertisements
Not as easy or straight forward as previous years whenever I had a question there was an advertisement trying to sell me more. This is very annoying. I bought the product to be helpful not confusing. I could not find easy explanations for terms I was unfamiliar with directly--I had to navigate the advertisements--not as helpful as previous years very disappointing.

2012 confusing
The installation instruction is not clear and I have to seek help from online chat. This will not be necessary if the instruction is clear.
The figures are scattered throughout the page and is difficult to check
Print out is not helpful and tips is not clear

Good to Great
I recommend enhancements to the software that would allow for easier input of medical and donation data. Perhaps one could input data from a spreadsheet? Prior to sending in my taxes, I do a few reviews. I have found that I have made selections only to find that they have been overwritten when I do my double check.

okay to good
was easy enough to enter information but I found some items came up asking for information even though I never identified from the beginning I may be claiming such. When I got to the end, the netfiling process was a little difficult as I wanted to direct deposit but didnt understand if I could or not and when I said no, I still got the form asking to fill out my direct deposit information?

Turbotax vs. Quicktax
I had used Quicktax for the past 5 years and was very happy with its easy-to-use capabilities.
However, there is a stark difference in Turbotax:
there were several miscalculations and missed opportunities for refund in the EasyStep method. I would have been at a disadvantage if not for the wisdom and knowledge I have developed from doing my own taxes over the years.
I am sickened to think of how many other individuals may be at a disadvantage due to this poor software. Its safe to say I will not be using Turbotax for my 2012 returns.

Integration Blues
This is not a review but a comment.
Online software worked well but certain amounts were "calculated" for me and I had no idea where the numbers came from.
I tried the online version first and completed my return but did not print or submit the return electronically. I purchased a copy of the software instead and installed it locally. All returns completed online had to be completely redone as there appeared to be no straightforward way of transferring the data from the online version to a valid paid local version; ie. can't save or transfer the online data in a format that is compatible with the local version.
An on-line "click here" button for verified paid local version users to prevent data re-entry could save a lot of time and effort. Or download to local version.

Turbo Tax Disappoints from Last Year
Quick Tax was always my preferred tax filing software for many years, but after it changed to Turbo Tax that will come to an end.
Turbo Tax is anything but 'Turbo.' It is harder to navigate around the program, and when it came to use Net File, I recieved multiple errors.
In general, doing my taxes with Turbo Tax was an excercise in frustration, which was a major disappointment considering Quick Tax was fast, easy, painless, and stress free last year!

TurboTax is old and limping
There has been little improvement in this product.
It does a great job separating the user from the details but the cumbersome navigation is the same as in the DOS version. Little of the interface has improved and the formprocess is still there.
There should be an input data form that summarizes all inputs so that we can easily match the data entered to the return. Printing out the return is too cumbersome to do an effective review.
The processing is very slow (but all Intuitproducts comsume system resources).
The answerign of quesitons page by page is painfully slow. Put everything on one screen and let us answer on that screen.
The Detail summary is sooo old and DOS litke. How about prinitng the graphic summary.
Come on Intuit Its time for a graphic and extensive upgrade.

too many preparatory questions

Simplicity
Product worked well(hopefully) and was for sale at a decent rate however it seems like every year there is always more and more add-ons or extras put on the program making the simplicity of using a walk through program more difficult. I understand that they are put on the program for our benefit however, I just love things when they're simple. I would still recommend this product to a friend because to me it still beats paying somebody to do something that i'm well capable of doing.

Turbo TAx is supposed to make it easy
Each year I find one or more issues with the software that frustrate me. These issues are software related and include fields that do not open for input, forms that do not close, and errors or warnings that do not apply but make me take the time to sort it out. One field took me on a three form run around only to end up on the original form. Don't ask which form, I am to busy to do the job of Turbo Tax and mine. I only use it because it carrys forward previous data otherwise I will switch. By the way it is too expensive for what it does.

Turbo tax is still a good value for your money - when you have access to a computer that doesn't crash - I found that with this years program I had way too many pop up adds and the questions were not as straight forward

Frustrated
Frustrated with problems in tranfering last year's info and not being able to get a "year over year" comparision. Also I could not seem to print summary page, which I also found frustrating.
Liked it, but not as much as last year's version. This is my 4th year using QuickTax/TurboTax. Finding the program a little less user freindly and a little more frustrating each year, but I still plan to use it next year...unless of course I find something better.

Income T Slip entry needs IMPROVEMENT!
Turbo Tax needs to revise the T Slip entry. First I have to fill out 2 or 3 pages of needless stuff before I get to entering my T Slips. Then it tries to "guide" me through entering them. I get to the end with 2 or 3 slips left. I have to go back to those selection pages to try and find what I missed. Then back to the T Slip entries, trudging through them all to find that I still have one slip left. How frustrating!!!!!!
Please, please just give me a T Slip selection page where I can select, in the order I have them piled on my desk, the next T Slip I want to enter. It would be so much easier for all. I am done when I run out of T Slips. So easy . . . like it used to be in Quick Tax.
I find the current system so bad I am unlikely to buy Turbo Tax again.

Not bad but....
I bought QuickTax for many years and continued with them once they changed the name to TurboTax. I think the old versions were better because they gave you more tips to save on tax depending on your situation. This year I did my taxes over a couple of days and used the Easy Step method. TurboTax did not notice that I had revised my capital gains and did not prompt me to increase my loss carryforward from other years to offset all my gains. I almost paid $1100 too much tax! I noticed the error myself upon completion of all the review, when looking over the summary. It should be more idiot proof than that.
