TurboTax: coasting on fumes
This software could be so much better. The interface and user experience hasn't changed in years. Clearly the developers have no interest in improving the software and assume that users will just continue to use it, year after year. Help is limited to user forum postings.

poor software UI

Sensitivity might be nice
I've used the product for a decade now. Generally never had a problem. Filing a return for my late mother-in-law and the software has no appreciation or understanding and treats the return as any old return. Don't need the cheery little tips, don't need to optimize charitable donations, don't need advice on TFSA. Perhaps recognize this is a return for a deceased person and adjust your messaging and prompts....like life changes for next year. I realize this is not malicious but would hope some sensitivity could be inserted.

Watch out for the tricky add-ons
The "standard program has all of the forms that all of the more expensive version also have. However, Intuit really tries to hide this fact so you will buy the more expensive versions (I did last year).
Then, WATCH OUT, after you have paid them, they try to sneak in additional services that he average person will never need. They just include it as one of the steps on your way to net file - if you are not paying attention, you will waste your money on these additional services.

Way too many issues if you live in QC
If you have a very basic return to file it might work fine. But if you work in one province and live in QC, the software has way too many problems. I reported some issues and was told that issue is recognized and that development teams will fix it. However this particular issue is there for many years. So obviously this is low priority for them.

Lax on some areas
I was disappointed with the checks and balances. It was a mistake that I made but I truly think TT should have caught it and at least issued a warning. before allowing me to file. It was information entered in a wrong area , when I corrected it i did not remove the deduction line. So even though I showed no income it allowed the deduction to remain which doubled my tax deducted. I find this a mistake of the program. At least question my input before filing.

Poor interface - wrong language
I asked for the French version, filled up all the fields in French, but got the English version with no way to switch to French. Many bugs in the ageing interface, looks like software from the 90's. If you can't do it right, just don't do it, Intuit.

Needs to be user friendly
For the year 2022 returns, I had to pay CRA $6500 which I couldnt understand why. However CRA detected the error which I do not know where the error is. I wish Intuit turbotax could be more user friendly.
Might have to use H&R Block next year.

Problems
When printing Turbo tax is not printing the return of the client selected. In other words when you print the return for Ben it will print Irene's tax return instead of Ben's and vice versa. Also when net filing your return the access code off of the Notice of Assessment is not always being accepted by CRA. I am not pleased as I should not have to dicker around with your software to make it work..

A little worse every year
Been using it for over 25 years, and recently there have been new minor bugs and design flaws each year, with existing ones not getting fixed.
What's gotten much worse is customer support, which has gone from excellent to next-to-none. When you finally manage to go through all the hoops to speak to a human, they seem unfamiliar with the product, and seem to have access to little more support information than customers can already find online.
The only reason I am using it this year is that I didn't get around to testing other products before tax season, and I don't have time for a learning curve now.
Once I've done this year's taxes for my family, I will be choosing another software for next year.

Watch Out! It Hallucinates
TurboTax does not read these comments. They don't care that their software has had the same errors for many years and that people point them out here, but they do thing about it. I encountered even more errors with the software this year including horrendous recommendations that would have cost me thousands of dollars if I followed their crazy suggestions. Hallucinating isn’t a new phenomena with AI. TurboTax has been doing it for a long time. Don’t take their suggestions or their optimizers too seriously. There is a very real chance they may be hallucinating. I’ve never lived or worked on a farm or have anything to do with farms, but apparently I have Farm credits for food donations that I’m missing out on or something like that. It also says that my wife should carry her medical expenses forward to another year because they exceed what she needs. TurboTax then wanted to optimize this for me. I said go right ahead. I can’t imagine how it could possibly optimize zero dollars for zero medical expenses: another hallucination. I could go on. This software is very disappointing.

Be careful
The menu on the left side of the Turbo Tax window is locked when you start to import data from last year to do the current year's taxes. There is no warning of this on the software. I wasted a lot of time calling Turbo tax to try to solve this issue. Finally after a long conversation, the support person suggested that I just continue going through the subsequent steps and the menu would eventually become unlocked. It did, but I wasted a lot of time trying to see if I had done something wrong when in fact in was a standard locking procedure and Turbo Tax failed to warn users about it.

Printing problems
I did the returns for my wife & I. When it comes to printing copies for ourselves, regardless of which return I select for printing, the software only prints the second return (spouse). This software glitch has been there for 2 years now. PLEASE FIX ! I would appreciate a real person response to this.

I can not believe that you guys still can,t get i
As a Senior programmer, I find it hard to believe that you guys release this poor quality software to the masses! How is it that your software cannot update itself, the downloads for the updates only extend back 4 years! and many illogical menus have to be traversed to do the same things. Example: your print handling sucks! Put it all on one page and let the user select what prints ,personal or pdf or mail-in, via checkboxes. your UI is horrible.

Not for experienced users
Poorly set up for experienced users. Software is hard to navigate with respect to printing. Incorrectly states user is adding to return numbers when only printing an individual form. Doesn't automatically prevent those who were full time students with more than 13 weeks of school attendance from incorrectly claiming the Canada Workers Benefit.

This product is just okay. It made me enter a business fiscal year, but I don't have a business. It did not give an explanation why, or indicate how I could correct that. The help and messaging is poor if anything doesn't happen that is standard. Also, it makes you review warnings multiple times.
