Not impressed this year
Extremely disappointed with Turbo Tax this year. When I tried to download my T4's or my wife's T4's the product froze(five times) and I lost everything and had to start over again. When reviewing medical expenses the product would not let me review every entry. It just went from the first to the last entry(no way to review my input individually). I have used this product for years. I'm not likely to use it next year. This product used to be better. It has been getting worse instead of better from year to year.

Disappointing Purchase
From the advertising it looked like I could complete my return with the basic version. Turns out if you have anything other than a T4 to enter you can't use it. Having to bump up to standard version was way more expensive than if I had gone for that one in the first place. So after paying way more than I had expected I found the help feature virtually useless. You can't ask questions unless you are willing to pay a lot more money. The help section is only a pick list of the most basic answers. I had to keep checking the internet to get the answers I needed. Everything is geared to up selling the customer. Very frustrating and disappointing. Even this so called survey on improving their product does not seem like they even care about improvements.

Downhill slide
There are multiple improvements that have been needed for many years especially with regard to ease of entry for items like the medical receipts. But this year also seems to have had multiple issues with the basic functioning ... aka bugs ... including exits without saves (goodbye 2 hours) and data entry that didn't work

Don't upgrade your Computer!
If you expect to access any of your previous tax fillings you can not upgrade your computer or any of its parts. This is what happened to me and Turbo Tax employees were unable or unwilling to allow me to gain access to print out a previous return. So, little reason to stay with Turbo tax if you think you like another program.

No "idiot" warnings
I made an error entering t-slip information, and the income amount was less than the tax paid amount.
I would expect Turbotax to pop up "the amount of tax exceeds the income amount"
now I have to file an amendment, and it's going to be a huge pain.

Turbo Tax was challenging to use
Turbo Tax is okay for a simple return but it was very difficult to use for more complex items such as Disability Credit and Transferring Spousal Amounts. I spent more time trying to figure out Turbo Tax and how to get it to do what I needed than it would have taken me to complete my taxes on paper.

Ouch!!!
After making a mistake in entering a T4A amount for the seniors one time benefit from Service Canada I found it impossible to make a correction. Help is absolutely useless!!!

A LOT of problems this year
We spend so much time trying to fix medical expenses. TurboTax didn't let us edit the medical form to add items after the initial batch. It didn't seem to update the net refund properly when allocating medical expenses. Worst of all, when we downloaded the T4 from the CRA, it did nothing with the information from box 85, which resulted in hundreds of dollars "owing" until we caught the problem and manually fixed it.

Could not edit
I made a mistake while doing the return so it gave me the option to go back and fix it but I couldn't edit what I had done so it meant I couldn't get the tax saving resulting in me having to pay more in taxes.

Glitches Make This Poor
Every year I find glitches in the Turbo Tax software which really makes the program a pain to deal with. Generally it happens in the first return and then you know what to avoid. This year I entered info under other income that I could not change as it would not come back up again. I ran through the program many times to try and prompt it but in the end gave up and did another return. What a pain. It should be so simple. If you enter something and you want to change it then go back to where you entered it and amend it. Not so with turbo Tax AND OTHER INCOME.

Not as good as it use to be
I have used Turbotax Standard for a number of years. The help for the product use to be fairly good and I could find most of the info I needed through the help file or community posts. However, the help file topics associated with each page seems to have less useful info now. The new community help functionality does not seem to give me much useful info when I do a search. Hopefully they fix this. If not I may start looking at other products.

Bit of a money grab
Have used the product for 10+ years. Used to be a loyalty discount, now gone so pay full fare every year. Only ever use for one couple so basic should be ok (up to 4 returns), but if you want to import all the personal drudgery must update to Standard (up to 8, features we don't ever use). Not cool, might migrate to free software next year if I don't leave till last minute.

Software problems
The level of communication by the product is poor. I get the firm sense that whoever prepared the software have never actually prepared their own returns in their lives. They assume knowledge that they should not. I have encountered many problems that I never did when (all but the last 2/3 years) I filed paper returns. On occasion, since choices were limited to perhaps two, on a kind of yes or no basis, one has had to "lie", as the truth reflected a third scenario. In some cases the result of taking a certain action, which may be highly disadvantageous to one, is not explained prior to taking the action.

missing transactions
works okay for simple returns but some how it sometimes missing carrying line items forward. I have a disabled daughter and the transfer amounts were not reflected properly costing me $25000 over 5 years. check the forms carefully and just use it to download from CRA, easy entry of numbers initially and netfile at the end... basically an expensive calculator every year. I am not confident in it as a tax solution especially when there are many free ones out there that work better. Just all my history is in turbo and quick tax so I am stuck for a couple more years

Going From Easy To Complicated
When I first started using TurboTax, things were nice and simple. Answer a few questions and your return was calculated for you. In the 2021 version, I'm supposed to fill in a whole T4A, T4RIF, and a whole bunch of other boxes ... most of which I don't understand and most which don't apply to me. The only boxes I need to fill in are the income received and the tax paid.
Previous versions were in the form of a Question and Answer format. Now, you almost need to be an accountant to understand what's going on. Would it be simpler to pick up the forms at the Post Office and submit them manually?

Download t-slips fails
Although advertised and referred to within Turbotax, the ability to download T slips from the CRA did not work. All I got was an error. I had to enter all the information myself. This was not what I paid for.

I have used Turbo Tax for many years. However I was unable to access any previous year returns this year so references to past years and details were not possible. There were several warnings that made no sense and I was directed to a site after starting (NAC) which did not give the option to continue. I was stumped and retried a few times before I realized that I had to go back to the bar at the bottom to move forward. This year seemed to be much more confusing than past years. I would like to see some comparison so I could be confident. With exactly the same 2 returns we had a refund last year (over $1,000.00) but had to pay (over $1,000.00) this year with no reference.

TurboTax crashes too easily.
The turbotax app crashed 4 times and had to re-enter all the data over again! Very frustrating indeed. With all the years of being in existence, one would think that the bugs would be worked out. Not a happy camper indeed. At the end, PayPal should not be the goto method of paying any money owed to the government.

Network Trouble
This year's version had trouble access the Intuit servers through my standard firewall product. To get TurboTax to work I had to disable my firewall. Not every user has this ability.

Buggy and poorly documented
I found this software reasonably easy to use and I have used it for a number of years to file my taxes. I have four major criticisms of the software.
1. The software is very poorly documented and it is very hard to figure out what to do when applying for various benefits. I find I have to search the internet and get information directly from the CRA website. This adds a lot time and could be greatly improved in the software to help users file their taxes quicker.
2. In multiple years the estimate return will suddenly drop by a significant amount in the final steps of the return. I would prefer if the code took a conservative estimate instead and then increased at the last step.
3. It would be helpful to add all information for a single user at a time. Going back and forth between family member's returns is really annoying and adds a lot of time to filing!
4.Lastly it would be good if Turbotax had some error handling when connecting to the CRA website. If an error occurs on the CRA end (which happens frequently) the TurboTax software suddenly crashes and all unsaved work is lost. This happened to me multiple times filling my taxes and causes a lot of frustration. If the software could have a cancel option or timeout or something that would help prevent redoing considerable amount of work.

Disappointed in the product
Turbotax seems to have become very complicated since I started to use use many years ago.

Long Time User NOT Happy
At one point the program when updating wiped out all the information I have input and saved.
Also, user should be able to enter Medical/Dental services and providers, and the pick them from the list instead of having to reenter them for each transaction slip. This would be a major time saver!!!

Was great some years ago
I have used this tax software since 1997, this years is the most intrusive and awkward version I have ever been exposed to. Was always straight forward with helpful hints this years almost wouldn't let me submit my taxes.
Helpful hints are good, taking two days to take finished forms to submission with :have you checked this 6 times" is not!!!
