The 2017 version of Turbotax is much worse than previous years. Much slower and contains bugs. For example when finished with one return you cannot start another return. You get in a loop that brings you back to the first return. There also seems to be no way to reach support, you are directed to post a question in a public forum.

2017 standard version
I find the product is clunky to use this year expecially the X for the elections info and the foreign investments did not respond and seemed to almost have a mind of their own. I have been using this product for year and this is the first year that I have had issues. Overall, still a good product.

The Optimizers in the program do not work well. You ask it to optimize and it results in a worse result. You have to select the best result yourself and not let the program do it. Also, if you do not optimize in a specific order you will pay more taxes than necessary. Turbo Tax should advise you the best order to optimize.

Never again
First of all the boxes do NOT tell you if you need basic or standard. I chose basic and then had to upgrade in the middle and all the information did not transfer over. I had a lot missing at the end of my review. I found it challenging to navigate back through to check everything. The worst part is I needed a magnifying glass to see the forms. I could increase text size only on the main body. Even this review is so small I need my magnifying glass!!!!!!
I had so many questions about the principal residence sale, it was impossible to get a simple answer to. I'm still not sure if I did it correctly. This was my third year using your program and I won't do it next year, I'll try another method.

confusing this year
Previous years that I've used Turbo Tax was easy to use and understand, and the help features were there when I needed them. This year I was confused on how to use this program. Any helpful information I needed ended up with me having to waste my time looking for an answer.

Script Error Problem
While I have always loved using turbotax this year it was a nightmare. Every page I clicked on I had an error message that there was a script problem. Often it would take multiple clicks to have the pop up screen go away. When I checked the FAQ it looks like this was a problem for lots of people - some posted that they had uninstalled and then reinstalled the program and then it stopped working so I just clicked my way through. Great disappointment after years of much success. I hope this is fixed for the future.

Crap Software
I used it for many years now, but this year is crap. next year it will be a different brand of software. I was in the middle of filing my taxes, and the software said there were overrides and asked if it should fix them as it wouldn't let me submit, it fixed something, I have no idea what and submitted, but obviously changed the dollar amount and I have no idea what it changed as it hung and crashed after doing the CRA submission. Now I have to resubmit via paper. There is also a dollar amount error on the T1 general, I had to go to CRA's website to figure that one one out.

Issues this year.
For the first time since I began using turbotax I had to contact customer support due to an issue with trying to print a copy to be mailed. The agent was able to resolve the issue by having me delete turbo tax 2017 from my computer and then installing a new version but it took a fair bit of time. At least it worked in the end.

Fix the Printing issue
There is nothing worse than spending a few hours preparing a return only to find out you now have to uninstall Turbotax, download it and reinstall it again to print.
This has been an issue for many users see posts on google and has been going on at least as far back as early February.
You can do better than this Intuit

Simple to Use but Left Wondering if Right
TurboTax Standard 2017 was very easy to use EXCEPT for two issues. 1) The popup window had very large and overlapping font making it impossible to use - for example the tool to determine which spouse should claim the Medical Expenses could not be used. 2) Even without the popup, I could not determine which was better -- to claim the Medical Expenses on my form (higher income) or my spouse's (lower income & a senior). If on my spouse's the tax credits were not needed and it was suggested to delay for another year to claim the medical expenses. If on mine, the amount allowed to claim was so low, it was impossible to determine how the amount was arrived at. I just chose mine rather than get nothing as there was no increase in income expected next year allowing the tax credit to be used.
One new feature: getting slips directly from CRA, was helpful.

Terribly Confusing Program
We found the TurboTax program terribly confusing this year. After saying NO to disposing property, it still asked for information about my disposed of property. When it came to tuition from past years, it was very confusing and we ended up completing one return incorrectly. I have not found issues with TurboTax in the past, however just the frustration from this year makes me want to never use it again.

Worse TurboTax ever
The software is very slow, taking long time to perform tasks.
The review process is endless because the time taken between tasks.
On top of that, the CD version of the Standard version (at least) don't work for the registration and then you cannot use the Netfile for neither Canada, nor Quebec.
Having the CD I needed to download the software from the Net, and even after that, NetFile didn't work for me, only for my wife returns.
I'll give another try next year to see if they are really worried about this anf fix the software.

redundant
keeps asking the same questions over and over. (how many times including during review must I tell you that I didn't sell my property). while saving after filing you can end up in an endless loop of saving your return continue then save your return over and over eventually just closing the program where it ask if you want to save my return. How about auto save every time a new page is selected. It is 2018 and not 1998

Getting worse every year
Think turbo tax has run its course for me. Time to find a new program. Find it glitchy. Been three years now and they still haven't fixed the rrsp to allow you to put the first 60 days on the year it was put in. Had to spend a day on hold with ccra and turbo tax to find out turbo tax was wrong. Wish they would carry forward deductions that you claim every year but make you go searching for the box to click it. IE northern deductions. Is Small stuff but adjitating no the less.

Don't rely on help to help you. It gives the most simplistic explanation ever and doesn't explain anything at tall.
You are mostly on your own if you are using the forms.

Product design
The product is getting worse, not any better. The yearly product updates were not helpful. It was better the previous years. In fact, this year the product alerts point to errors that could not be fixed. There were constant, nagging reminders that could not be disabled.

Not this year
I always had good luck with your product, but this year a script error showed every 5 second while I doing the taxes. It was very annoying, I called Turbo tax support and was told to phone them in 5 minutes. The error said "Automation server can't create object". I always had good luck till this year. I guess we will have to see about next year.

Script Error nightmare
Script error continually came up. Even after checking the help pages and doing the fixes suggested it continued.
CRA import did not work either which is part of the reason why we purchase this product. To enter everything by hand on a very basic tax return (One T4) is not worth the price.
I have used TurboTax for 5 years previous and it worked great. This year it was terrible. I could have done it faster and easier for less money.

Going in the wrong direction
Each year, since I first began to use TurboTax, the plan seems to be to get away from using the "forms" method and relying on the program to take your data and do the right thing with it. I am not comfortable with this method, because I want to be in the position of being able to explain each and every entry and I find I can most easily do this if I maximize entries through the "forms" method. I think that, for next year, I will probably go in a different direction.

Not a great year
Why allow a couple to prepare returns when the returns aren't acceptable for filing in the first place (he is deceased in the year). Too much time unravelling that at the end and wound up starting over with BOTH returns after getting into an endless "click here to do X" kind of loop.
Seems also to lag a little bit at the keyboard - SINS, and number values frequently missed a character and became invalid.
Long time user - and not your best effort.

Glitchy when trying to NETFILE
TurboTax tries to upsell too many options during the NETFILE process. This interfered with my submission and locked up the program when my CRA site link didn't work. I had to restart and was prompted retry. I don't know if this will be an issue with CRA having multiple submissions.
The graphics need to updated to something more modern. The resolution is so low that some of the information is off the page (again during the Review and Filing process).
Either they improved the look and feel or I'm going to move on, even after many years of using this product.
