Okay until Printing
I have used Turbo Tax Standard to complete my returns for 2 years. I don't recall having issues completing my 2016 return. However this year completing 2017 was a different story. I find this software somewhat clumsy and not particularly user friendly and I am an accountant (not a tax accountant). Because I have foreign income, I am required to submit my T1, etc. by mail. When I tried to print to mail, I got an error message requiring the CD be inserted again. After I did that and printed to mail, I got forms that I did not need and I did not have all the forms that I did need. After searching around in the support section, I was able to find a way to force the printing of the correct forms. I feel that I should not have had to spend time figuring out how to print what I needed. When I clicked Print to Mail, I should have got what was required.
I have Turbo Tax US for at least 16 years. It is much more user friendly and I never had even one issue with it.

Many Years Still NOT Modern
I've used this product for many years (>10) but I will look elsewhere next year. The application has not evolved with the software industry on the most basic features; all the help is just CRA web pages - where's the Intuit vast knowledge?, one still can't search thru the forms for items like line number x, medical deductions, or other specific words. One can only find full forms. The "wizards" aren't easily found and don't explain anything. The imports from previous years import very little so I don't see the time saving in that as such making it far easier to switch next year.

TOOO Restrictive
I have used this product for over 15 years. This years program is too restrictive. One is not able to print what one is looking at. Example: I am looking at the detailed tax review and am not able to print out this review. No longer a happy customer. I am retired and would like a program to do what I want it to do.

INSTALLATION AND REGISTRATION ISSUES
I have used Turbo Tax for several years. This is the first time that I have had issues registering the product and the help response was not very helpful. I was told that I didn't have to register the product to check for updates. When I did check for updates, the software gave me an error message that I couldn't check for updates without uninstalling and reinstalling the software. I had to do that three times. Very frustrating. Will probably look at other tax prep solutions next year.

frustrated
Program keeps looping at the end. Was only able to do 1 return then the other usual returns I do every year I had to populate all the personal info instead of Turbo tax populating it from the previous year.

The software this year is horrible lots of errors I have to call tech. support and download the software again .
Also no significant change from last year and the year before .
Errors like "SCRIPT ERRORS' appears every time I click anywhere on the page.

I had a consistent error message about not being able to run a script - every time I hit continue. Also, I couldnt download my T forms from cra. First time these types of errors have occurred with turbotax but I must think twice about using again.

not recommend anymore
At the end of the process it told me I had an error when in reality I didn't. I sent my forms in and guess what I now owe instead of getting the refund I thought I was due. I have now gone back and redone my forms over again.
Now I have to try and explain to CRA what happened , that should only take a couple of months....

good but script doesnt read
been using this software for 10+ years.
First time its been buggy, really delayed the process, after each click - script error took 3-5 okays before proceeding.

Completion of return problem
When you complete a return it cycles back to 'save a copy' regardless of if you choose yes or no.
you need to exit out entirely.

Why is it intentionally made difficult?
I know this can be made easier. I continually have to make choices before my information is entered. I have to study and know what I want to do before I can use the program. The explanation of terms are more confusing than the terms themselves. If I am going to pay for a program as an end user then design it for the end user.
I would suggest first getting all of the information the person has.
Then making recommendations
Then giving the option to review
Get someone who can translate technical speak into very simple English for the help explanations.
This is not a simple tool to use, just easier than going line by line. It can definitely be improved, in the last 4 years very little has been done in this area. I am not sure I will continue to use this service

Script Errors!!!!!!!
Script error on every page. Often multiple errors on the same page (15 times on some). you aren't able to navigate back and forth through the return. To make a change, you have to go back page by page, and deal with the script errors all over again. Once you've made whatever changes were needed, you then have to proceed page by page again. AGAIN WITH THE SCRIPT ERRORS.
the wizards at the end of the report don't automatically take you to the appropriate section. again you have to go back page by page, dismissing script errors.
previous versions gave a running total in the top right so that you knew what your return would be at each stage. no more. now you get the sticker shock at the end when you find out that you have to pay.
I have used Turbo Tax every year since it was first released, and this is by far the WORST version ever.

Bugs need fixing
I have been using Turbo Tax for years. On 2016 and 2017 returns I have noticed issues. Downloading from previous years, has downloaded incorrect info. Said I sold my principal residence, which I did not, and was not marked as such on 2016. Won't allow me to netfile 2017 return.
Help questions not very helpful.

Full of glitches this year
I've used Turbo Tax for years and love it, except this year. A script error message popped up on every page multiple times in spite of updates and re-installing and it was impossible to reach anyone to ask how to fix this. Finally, half-ways through March, the update finally fixed the problem.
A message should have gone out to say wait to do your taxes until we fix this.

This tool does not work properly.
If you go through easy entry, get to end & change your mind on selection, deselecting does not clear the entries in the tax forms.
eg. Medical Expenses, Work Expenses etc
I was caught on this three times this year

all the extra screens for trying to get us to buy your extra services are annoying. They are not required. Am having problems this year with the last screen where it asks if you want to go to another return and it just takes you back to the return you were working on.

Tired of the bugs

Frustratingly Slow
The downloaded version of the software was extremely slow this year. Entering T4 data took upwards of 10 seconds for each textbox to gain control. Software would hang for upwards of 5 minutes after entering T4 data. Very frustrating process this year.

Why so many errors
Over and Over the program would come up Not Responsive. Then all of the Fix it idea's near the end of the process. To solve a problem I had with one of my children I finally deleted them from my profile and re entered him to get ride of the problem. Very disappointed.

Script Error Annoying
Getting a pop-up script error on every single page is most annoying. TurboTax should get on this and fix it asap.
Also, it's not as easy to key in t4 information manually, if you don't want to use the download.

2017 version seriously glitchy!
Had to cancel HUNDREDS of script error warnings to make it through the process. The "fixes" shown in the help/Q&A didn't do a thing.

gets worse with each passing year
First off, upon installing, the registration screen would not map into my display, and could not be moved or sized to do so, so had to register by calling customer support. In running easy file, specified what really is an inconsequential RRSP contribution made by my daughter in previous tax year unclaimed, and while EasyFile went through the RRSP section, it never provided opportunity to input that, and when I clicked the button to enter any unused information, the program went to a "find" window for the program in general. Also defaulted to "basic working credit" on full-time student return, which I had not selected, and then had to fix as an error. Have used TurboTax since it was QuickTax, and have found it become more cumbersome and error-prone with each passing year, so next year, I'll be looking to change to another package.

Getting worse every year
TurboTax 2017 is the worst version yet. The program crashed while attempting to import information from the CRA. Because there is no auto-save feature, I lost all my progress so far and had to restart. I also noticed more typos and awkward or altogether missing words in this version e.g. "Are you filing this return on behalf of someone who was (Yes/No)?"
I've been using TT since 2010 and it seems like it's getting worse year after year. Partly this is because my tax situation is getting more complicated as I age and I'm now trying to use more features of the software, but more generally the UI is getting busier and less helpful, and it seems that less attention is being paid to user experience (e.g. clicking the help text also checks a check-box, meaning you select or deselect things unintentionally when trying to find out what the heck you're looking at!)
I was ultimately successful in completing my return which is why I leave a 2 star review instead of just 1, but I think I'll be looking for alternatives next year.
