Great time saver
I completed both my wife's and my own returns in a half day. Our returns are fairly simple, being retired empty-nesters. Program is easy to use as we've had 4 years of practice.

Not as good as years past
This year I was disappointed. I have been using this for years and it has done me well. This year, there were problems loading the program and launching it. There was also some confusing "tips" and "warnings" which had no real explanation or support. I will rethink my tax software for next year.

disappointing!
I have used turbo/quicktax every year since the 90's, and always thought it was excellent. This year however, it crashed every time i started it up. And then when i restarted it, it would have to go to the activation server again. That worked for while, and then it started failing the activation. So then i had to phone in to get an activation code, which i had to enter every time. Painful.. and very disappointing. Thumbs down.

Designed for Intuit, not the user.
The intuit TurboTax 2013 "Standard" edition is loaded with options to sell you something, but not loaded with simplicity. You follow their process, and God help you if you go down a wrong road, or select to "explore" one of their tax saving options. During the "review" of my tax filing, the software suggested that I might be better off claiming my spouses ineligible dividend tax credits on my return rather than hers. Oddly enough, it also suggested the opposite when her tax return was "reviewed." I went down this dark alley, only to find out that once you elect the suggestion, there's no obvious way to turn back (i.e. reverse the decision) other than to jump back to the last saved point and start over. Taking the TurboTax suggestion to claim my spouses dividend tax credit on my return, and vice versa, resulted in several thousand dollars of additional taxes owing, which I knew was incorrect.
The Intuit TurboTax software is fare more complex than it needs to be. Perhaps they justify the complexity as "legal requirements."
Why can't they make software whereby you fill out your personal information, tabulate your income(s) and deductions, hit the compute taxes button, and print.

Not Impressed
The only reason I use turbotax is because I use to be a quicktax user and they are now turbotax. I find it harder and more confusing to use then the old quicktax. My biggest complaint is with the 'Go Back' function in easystep. It causes some values to reset to default causing me to reenter and recheck everything. (ex go back to look at medical expenses should not reset whose return medical expenses are applied to). People do go back (for me several times) while entering a return and this resetting to default values messed me up several times making me spend more time reentering and verifying what is there. STOP PUSHING OTHER PRODUCTS AND SERVICES ON ME. If I wanted to make a will I would look for will software. And all those extra 'continue' or 'no thanks' buttons to various audit support services just make it more likely I will click something wrong that affects my tax return. I want CLEAN SIMPLE tax entry, push your services and products at the end AFTER I have finished and submitted my return. ALSO optimizers should be by choice not default. 'Continue' should continue to the next step in the tax return not automatically start an optimizer, it is confusing. Have an 'Optimize' button instead for those who wish to use that function. All in all it took me twice as long to do my taxes this year using turbotax as it did previous years because of the need to recheck, reenter and verify everything.

really annoying glitchs
I found the program less user friendly than last year. In particular my wife and I live at different addresses this year but our realationship is the same and all other previous data is the same so should have been able to transfer across easlily both from last years' returns and between this years' returns.
But for many key data entry points that we are require to cross refference with our spouse ie rental income, net incomes, income splitting etc had to be reentered manually and to make matters worse they were in restricted fields that were troublesome to edit. I could have done it twice as fast if we had just filled out 2 returns by hand.
I have used quick/ turbo tax for over 15 years and this is the first time it was less user friendly than the previous year.

annoying advertising
Software is easy to use and works ok, but annoying advertising for extra services every second page make using the software a bad experience.
I am $paying$ for this software.
If it were free, ok- fine, forcing advertising down your throat is normal. But I am paying and STILL being forced to click through ads??
This may be the last year I use this.

I found this product confusing in some areas and it changed info submitted without clearly identifying what was changed and why. Would not purchase again. I have found Turbo Tax to easier to use and less expensive for my needs.

long time user won't buy again
I was a quicktax user for years and changed to turbo tax when they took over. This will be the last year I use this product. I had to prepare a return for my deceased father and it was very frustrating. I connected with online chat and the support worker didn't have a good control of English and after about 20 minutes of frustration, I gave up and found my own solution.
Also, I am tired of paying for a product and being asked every 5 minutes during a return to buy some related software or support.

Confusing
How to pay my taxes was very confusing. It would appear that when you submit your forms to the CRA, you cannot pay them on the CRA website at the same time, as we used to do for many years. I can go on to the website separately and pay them, I think!
Why did Intuit not point out this important change?
Also, the links in TurboTax try to use Internet explorer, not my default browser. This is a problem for me as I never use IE nor do I keep it updated, therefore it did not work correctly.

Worst Year Ever
I have used QuickTax and TurboTax for many, many years but this year for the first time I have found TurboTax to be a complete headache. It entered information in a confusing series, entered some investment items twice, was very difficult to get to certain forms when I needed them. I was doing my and my husband's returns together, and often, when in a form, didn't know if I was working on my return or his. If this had been my first experience with TurboTax I would never use it again, but I may give you one more chance next year.

2013 Changes
Last year was the first time I used Turbo tax. I found it easy to use and really appreciated the free phone support. This year although your product is still easy to use I missed having the phone support. The questions you can ask on the sidebar usually answers most questions but I still had one that I could not get answered. Next year I will look for a product with free phone support. I resent you offering a phone number for additional money. I may even use the governments free program.

Complete Sell-A-Thon
I think that Intuit has lost focus of what this software is about.
Tax time is stressful.
The last thing I want to deal with when trying to find out if I'm paying still more money to the government, after having chosen to buy this software, is an upsell.
Worse yet, constant attempts at upselling me.
Please stop trying to bludgeon me into upgrading. If I feel like I need to - I will. Ask me once per installation and respect my decision. Ditto for the Audit Defense.
If Intuit spent half as much time making the interface consistent and making the usability of the software less frustrating as they do trying to get you to buy an upgrade to the more expensive versions of the software, or spring for audit defense, etc, they'd have a really good product.
As it is, every year I use this software, it makes me so angry that they're just pushing for upsells that I get closer and closer to using a competitive product.
In fact, the one year we tried out both software products on the same tax return - we found that the competitor - a free software - missed one deduction which resulted in a discrepancy of $20 in favor of TurboTax, but that didn't even offset the cost of the software.
Constant pushes to buy an upgrade will just push me to the competition. I've used Intuit products for more than 10 years, but this might just be the end of it.

Turbotax is getting more diffucult to use each year. Had major issues with tax file being stored in same folder as application, with resulting loss of 2 hours of work because information was not stored.
Diffcult to find appropraite forms - the 'find form' search option often did not return the name of appropriate form (e.g. searching on the term 'Farming Income' did not return the appropriate form for entering income and deductions)

Expences
I have bought Turbo Tax now for the past 5 or 6 years. This is the first time that I have been disappointed. I am doing my fathers taxes and he is a senior. My mother passed away in 2012 and he did not claim all her funeral expences. Comumbarium door @ $577.50. The Urn @ $729.75. Cemetery Niche @ $1535.75. Plus there was $676.00 in housekeeping. Now is he able to claim these expences and where on this for can we do this?

I don't want to register, please stop asking.
I discovered this year that you only have once chance to opt out of the please register nag when you start TurboTax. If you choose remind me later all future nag messages are missing the checkbox that says don't remind me again.
Goodbye TurboTax. I think I will try something else next year.

Somewhat disappointed.
The application is fairly easy to use & I suppose for the completely disinterested, is an easy solution. However I found I had to refer to the Revenue Canada website and look for information elsewhere.
