Find better software
I had a lot of trouble with Turbo Tax. Forms did not correctly update when I made changes. The date that I entered Canada was correct in Turbo Tax but incorrect on the printed version. I had to do my taxes three times to get a hopefully correct file. I could never get it do resolve a balance on my wife's refund by reducing the balance of my own refund. Overall, I would've paid $100 to get this software to work correctly. What a waste of time.

Turbo Tax needs to get MAC friendly
After more than 15 years of using turbo tax, quick tax and their predecessers I am fed up with the unwillingness to adopt the program for the many millions of Mac users It is frustrating having to run turbo tax in quasi Windows environment. I have had high hopes that a Mac version of this tax software would be available by now!

Just finished tax return for my deceased 90 year old parent. I was disgusted with all the content that had to answer that were in no way relavent. ie election on cpp stop payment or do you want to make a tfsa contribution. give it brake. once deceased is checked off NONE of the questions that don't apply should not waste my time having to read them and then answer them.

difficult
I was asked to buy early and I did. This was a mistake as I totally filled both my wife and mine. When finished was asked to update in order to send. Lost all data and had to start all over again

Not Happy
It was much easier using another name brand last year to do my taxes.
You get all the way to the end to send and it says its not right.

Failure to Launch
Found software sluggish moving between easy step & full tab menu
took a few attemps at locating areas to entre RRSP receipts etc this is just an example
If I had paid $15 that would be acceptable, but I am a experienced software user and an totally dissatisfied sorry I have use this product for over a decade and I will be and stress, "WILL BE SEARCHING FOR SOME NEW SOFTWARE.

Netfile errors
Imported address from year before...netfile error
Claimed I manually overrode information that software did on its own....netfile error
Annual RRSP contribution parameters are listed as Mar 1 to Mar1
This software is getting worse every year!

The video demonstrations always error out. I do not have the time nor the patience to do IT work. I am a user. When I purchase I expect no complications. I've used Turbo for a number of years. Truly disappointed this year.

easier by hand
Its been just over 10 years since I last used turbo tax and now I recall why I haven't used it over all those years. I just find it easier to fill out the forms manually. Have found turbo tax to not be very smart, some errors and glitchy. There are areas (tuition and eduction transfers for example) that should have auto complete (you can enter what you want even thought the maximum is set). transferring credits from dependants could be made easier and more automatic. What is the point of a computer program if it doesn't make it easier. Areas on the form where wording is repeated and for some reason line 6130 in form MB479 shows $1 which cannot be removed (software doesn't add it in, just there for some reason). You can't upload medical expenses from a spreadsheet. If the software is just a glorified calculator what is the point? If you can read the guide and use a calculator do your taxes that way.
Only tried turbo tax again because revenue canada doesn't like paper filing. Too bad. They will be getting a paper copy next year.

soso - no real advice
It did not tell me to move RRSP contribution claims to a higher income claimant.
It asked for a medical claims period - even though I did not make medical claims.

Glitches with the program
1. Why did questions about "Tax on Split Income" come up when the year of birth is 1990 and it applies to "if you were born in 1995 or later"? 2. If only you or your spouse can claim the credit (Ontario Sales Tax Credit) why did it show at the end that both will receive the credit? I've been using TurboTax since 2004 and I'm not sure I will next year. I wasted too much time on this and now I'm questioning the accuracy of the returns.

Frustrating
Although Turbo Tax was user friendly, it was impossible for me to file my taxes using netfile...extremely frustrating and I would not recomend this product to anyone.

I have used Turbo tax for several years and tried another product this year.in the end I had to buyTurbo Tax again. Much easier to enter information than the cheaper version I tried.

Mediocre Program
This years software program is more daunting to use than last years. When you click on the blue under lined items you end up in another window that in a lot of cases does not provideany answers or does notallowyou to search for the answer.

not satisfied
i ran into trouble navagating back and forth in the return, the help menu , and demo on filing return came up in encryped could not read it. i have used turbo for years ,and this year they dropped the ball big time , took me days the work through glitesh, other years only would take a few hours to do my income tax

I could not find things like legal fees and there was an error in review of how to file on line demo. If I had not done this before I would not have been able to file on line.
Places where I had T4 item line 28 there was no way to enter or see what this was doing it was just a yes or no.

Could be alot better
This product could be significantly better if it compared the return I'm working on this year to the return I filed with Turbotax last year and advised me of any differences that would indicate I had missed something or that I did not do last year. It'd be a pretty simple comparison that would add a ton of value to the user instead of printing the return and then comparing it to last year's return.

I really dislike the fact that the typeface is so small.... I know a lot of seniors are finding it more and more difficult to read the questions.... why can't they make the type larger or at least have a function embedded whereby you can enlarge the type if need be???

Frustrating
I found this 2012 "edition" frustrating to use. Required many revisions. Netfile demonstration did not function at all.
Error in Election to split pension income only showed up during actual netfile.
I hope next year's version has more clarity...several years ago it was much better.

Does the Job
This will be my 3rd year using this software, this year it was difficult to add RRSP and extra deductions to my tax's. Strange as the last two versions, 2010,2011 made this task very easy.

Disappointed

Too many slow downs
Slow downs during the step by step. Let me shut off all of these annoying tips.
Too many ads. I've paid for the program, stop trying to sell me additionsl stuff when all I want to do is finish my stupid tax return.

mis-steps are hard to correct
I started to fill out the easy step and realized I had put the income and deductions under professional business, instead of regular business. I deleted all the boxes, but apparently it had created and filled out forms in the background. These forms were not cleared. It is very dificult to find these created forms and clear them. Wasted hours and stressful

all easy EXCEPT CPP
Putting CPP under "other income " has caused me no end of grief. I've been trying to get my error corrected since may! It's now september with no end in site. I've ended up completely redoing it

Need Control over Font Size
I will not buy turbotax again until they address this issue. The font is so small that I need my face 3 inches from the screen. I'm in my late 40's and far sighted, but so are many other taxpayers.
I've heard the reasons why it "can't" be changed. And it doesn't matter. I simply won't use it again until the font is legible. My return was late largely because of this problem. Incredibly frustrating.
I love the programme. But microscopic font is a deal breaker.
