Incorrect tax calculations implying the Quebec Drug Plan. With the same data input, Revenue Quebec replied with a hefty amount due. Amateurish software! The same qualification for capital gains /losses calculations. It does not retain the data from the previous years, as it must. Had to reactualize it manually from my old notes and online info from CRA. I will probably try another software next year.

Inaccurate calculations related to the ‘’Québec prescription drug insurance plan’’, see Schedule K. – Repeat Review. My wife and I have checked lines 14 and 16 (Sch. K) and according to Turbo Tax (see statement at the begging of the schedule) we did not have to complete the schedule or pay a premium (regardless of our revenues). To our surprise, Revenue Quebec charged us in their notices of assessment with a few hundred dollars representing a premium due for our 2018 provincial drug plan. Turbo Tax did not pick up all conditions required by the provincial Tax provisions (including the personal revenues) and even did not calculate automatically the premium (Section A of Schedule K). I hope this will be corrected next year.

I used to love this product ... NOW NO ... Will not purchase it again.
Why? 1) Help command was not functioning properly or displaying and not seem to be near fully functional 2) It blocked access to line numbers 3) The adjust Text - did not work ... 4) It put me in a look during the "Review" ...had to kill the program and re sign in ...
5) this review is not functioning ...obviously they don;t want people to know real concerns! They forgot we are customers ... the product should provide a service. The product tries regularly to block manual access to forms or provide HELP info on those functions!!

The software took 2 hours to load, I had to re-start the installation process 3 times prior to completion. Even though I was connected to the Internet and I had a valid activation code I was required to phone a 1-800 number to get an activation code to re-try the installation. The entry of T3 and T5 slips was painfully slow and on at least 5 occasions the program just froze and took several minutes after hitting esc to return function. When I was finally finished I thought I had e-filed my return but 5 days later I still have not received a confirmation from the CRA that it was received. I will never buy this product again.

I have been a customer for 8 years and not sure I want to go through this again. From the very beginning there was an issue with the download of the 2018 software. I got an error saying Microsoft Visual Pkg failed. Now, I am not a computer tech wizard so it took some digging to figure out how to get this pkg and download it and hope it worked. (Took 2 tries). The process also screwed up my microsoft login so that I had to change my password! Once I got turbotax going things were okay (not freezing like last year) until I got to the "Statement of Investment Income" screen. I am basically compliant when it comes to taxes and from what I read I thought I had to enter this information which doubled my taxes! This definitely didn't feel right so I tried to contact turbotax help/support online. Turns out my membership login doesn't work (never has!) so I couldn't ask for help and when I entered my email or ID, Turbotax didn't recognize me (but no issue taking my money every year for subscription download). I scoured the Xchange and Turbotax web sites trying to find a phone number to call. This is hidden very carefully - it took many queries and attempts to contact before a screen finally came up with a phone number to call. Meanwhile I was finally able to send a request to get a new password for my login. I did receive one and logged in once successfully to change temporary password. However, the next time I tried - same issue!!! Turbotax doesn't doesn't like my new password and doesn't recognize my ID/email as a customer. When I did call for help, the agent was very helpful and explained that the "Statement of Investment Income" screen is only for investments made outside of banks (states "Canadian corporations" - I interpreted banks as corporations too). What it doesn't clearly state is that if you have already entered all your investment income with T3's and T-5's, this screen doesn't apply and can be ignored. Some simple clarification would really help those of us who are compliant types afraid we will make an error that will cause a penalty. So after my discussion with the agent I was happy until I discovered that I could not login again. Not a happy experience, it took months to get my taxes done as I walked away several times in frustration - I am considering paying someone to do my taxes just to avoid issues like the last 2 years.

This is regarding Turbotax 2018 Standard for Canada.
1. Turbotax suggests to assign the medical expenses to the lower earning spouse despite - due to his low tax rate - it would make the total return *lower*. The program knows that - it has already all the data - but still gives such a *wrong* advice that potentially costs a lot of money to the taxpayer.
2. For form T1135 (Foreign Income) Turbotax uses the term "value" instead of "cost" when gives warning regarding the *cost* of one's foreign investment greater than $100,000 any tine during the year. It says "if the the *value* of one's foreign investment greater than $100,000 any time during the year...". That completely misrepresents the requirement that CRA applies regarding the foreign investment since "value" means the current value of a security but "cost" means what cost of the security when it was bought. (To be fair, not all "Foreign Income specialists" in CRA - I talked with one by phone once - know the difference as well).
3. Why form T1135 should be netfiled separately from the "return"? Why all other forms belong to "return" but this (unfortunate form) does not? Nonsense... which caused (me) a lot of money in fines...
Anyway, too much big deficiencies for such an important piece of software, and several wrong advices which potentially may cause significant money loss to the taxpayer. Hence - one star!

the program did not allow me to put my own name on the first tax return. there was no where that said the first return was for the person who had the most money. When I realized that I tried to change the names. It was a challenge and I finally had to completely redo the returns. I had to end up doing a lot of clicking to get the numbers in the right places. I tried to get someone online and that didn't work. and there was no questions that I thought would be helpful.

I need to mail my return so I need a PDF to print. Every time when I try that it goes through a long procedure that ends up at where it started. I'm a computer professional so I tried all routes but all end in a loop. Also it does not seem to save the direct deposit information for the second person so I'll need to enter it manually. Good thing I discovered that otherwise my 2000 $ will end in NeverLand.

Will not use Turbo Tax again unless software allows override on T5008 whereby CRA Auto Fill joint capital gains information is reported in only one spouses' return and in $US without disallowing Net File. Even F2 could not be used to delete certain Sch 3 Sup 3 information. Cursor was not allowed on certain fields. I could not find a way to print off return without "Duplicate, do not send by mail " for mailing purposes after rejection for Net File. Only with adjustments to improper fields (no negative numbers allowed on Schedule 3) was I able to get proper capital gains in $Cdn and get around need to override for Net File purposes. I worry that CRA will want to audit my return for the confusing "work around" your Turbo Tax software.

Unstable - I had two rental properties b/fwd from 2017. After I entered the 2018 data, the rental property form started to duplicate and triplicate for both me and my wife. I had to delete both tax returns and start all over again. Lost 2 days.

Sadly, the program turbotax standard has become a waster of time. When you actually need help it is not there, the help is more like a directory to bulletins or other forms, it really doesn't tell you if you should click the box in the interviews. Dispite not clicking on many of the review selections the program still takes you to the questions in order to fill info that does not apply to you. On more than one occasion they try to sell you an upgrade or audit protection, it is like a selling machine, not good. At the end when you go to print a copy for your records, it asks if you want to close forms that are not used, again even though you say yes, it prints away wasting paper. The program will not let you print copies of the summary or detailed summary or even the estimated details from the Trillium program. Where the net filing has become easier to do they seem to want to control your information and be an intermediary between you and rev Canada. I will likely be looking for alternate software next year. It seems like the bug fix for last year is available now, interesting because it messed up how it handled joint accounts last year by actually doubling the amount instead of entering 50% to each party, caused me all kinds of problems and I'm certain it cost me a loss in benefits. My final words is use at your own risk, it even says something to that effect when you get started, not like it used to be where they essentially guaranteed that if you enter all the proper info you would get the best refund.

My wife and I have been using TurboTax since it changed name from Quicktax which we used for several years previously. Our returns have been relatively simple. The 2018 return version has been the least easy to use to-date. The Medical Expense optimizer assigned these expenses to the person that provided the least combined refund. I had to manually change it to get the higher refund. There were several other areas that were unclear. After 25+ years it might be time to try a different product.

I have used this product for years and loved it. However after this year will never use it again! Ut was extremely frustrating to be asked the same questions many times. Steps wer left out soI ha to go back and find them myself. When I finally got to the end and did Netfile I was so happy but then when I hit continue I was repeatedly sent back to the ready to file page even though I had the confirmation fromCRA that they received my forms! BYE BYE TurboTax!!!

When you save your tax return, it should show the page you saved and not the previous page. The pop up that shows up when you start the return or go back )do you want to import your slips) should be done away with because it is the most annoying. When you ask for help on a topic, why do we have to write it in twice? The help topics are useless. It does not even mention the transfer rate that one is allowed to transfer to another province, useless topic help.

Worst in years. Older programs were easier to navigate. I had to go to start then navigate to where corrections were necessary. No easy bar to follow. Some corrections were impossible to correct. In some cases no erasing allowed.

It asked me to change my email address on MyAccount. Very Confusing since I already had a MyAccount with an email address. It should have asked if I wanted to chnage an existing email registered on MyAccount.
You had me navigate in circles to close the process when I had not selected to rate your product. I gave up and decided to rate your product as it wasted my time my time.

Tax program needs to be logical and intuitive without the duplication requests and cross-ups and mistakes in TurboTax. Next year's TurboTax must be better!!
