May be good for You
If your return doesn't have fields that overflow, i.e. you don't need to input more digits then the software allows, TurboTax is great.
If you do, get something else.

Pain in the Butt on StartUp
An error message comes up every time we start Turbotax 2018. this requires going to Turbotax website to download the "update" (even if you go out of the program and start up 5 minutes later) This does not happen in any other year all the way back to 2010. TECH support was NO HELP AT ALL.
I do a lot of taxes for needy people for free every year and I have no time to enter all their information in another unfamiliar program.

increased climate change
I have used Turbo Tax for many years but this years has been the most challenging! I could not get the automatic updates. With much reading and insight from others facing the same problems I discovered the problem of the January launch of software and a manual install of exe file needed. Frustrating!

Disappointing
Disappointing experience this year. After getting a cryptic error message from Turbotax when trying to Netfile, I searched everywhere within the help to no avail. It was only after actually phoning Revenu Quebec that they were able to tell me that the tax software has issues with line 443 and I have to mail in my taxes. If Turbotax is unable to resolve the issue, they should at least document this in the help files so that users don't stress out.

Not good - don't buy
You have to be an income tax expert or computer expert (probably both) to use this product. Took me 6 hours to do a simple return. Instructions are vague and very hard to get further information. I would rather pay someone to do my taxes next time.

Not Happy
This year version has been poorly tested and Easy Step create more problem that simplify the process. I have send questions on 3 issued encounter but never got a response so far. I contacted by phone the support group and I have very appreciate the help provide by EIDjida (#450445075) to solve some issues but identification information on Quebec Tax return were either missing or wrong, while the info is correct on the Federal Tax return.

Error cannot be corrected,
Your taxable dividend does not equal your actual amount of eligible dividends multiply by 138% plus your actual amount of ordinary dividends multiply by 116% or you have a taxable dividend but no dividend tax credit or the dividend earned from January 1 to March 27 is negative. Tried to reach help but no one was available. No errors when sending to CRA but one error stated above prevented me to send to Quebec. I've spent far too much time with the software and have used it for several tax returns over the part 7+ years but this will be my last time!

Terrible this year
I plan to switch to another software. I have been using this software since Quick Tax. I spent over 8 hours with three sessions on phone support. The software did not update and did not work like in the past.

2017 return too too slow
They made changes to the 2017 return in August 2018 - and it is taking so long to process after you change one line of data - I have tried this on faster computers and it is too slow - (not Responding) is the message - I have called there tech support and it is still not fixed - in September 2018 - I'm being audited and that is the reason I have to back to use 2017 software

POOR FINAL RETURN
To do a final return and one for the widow involves jumping from one to the other. There are some special situations but these should be easy to incorporate.

Not worth it
I have used TurboTax for years but never again after my experience with the 2018 TurboTax Standard. The software would not install properly. Finally with the help of the support staff I did a manual install and update to the software. Everything seemed to be fine, although I was not able to print out a copy of my return. I did save a copy as a .pdf file. I electronically filed my return but TurboTax managed to screw that up as well. No deductions and no refund. Now I can't print my copy of the return again, and have to take my taxes somewhere to try and get the problems with my return fixed due to TurboTax screwing up on me. This year using TurboTax has turned into my worst nightmare!

Printing blocked by Updates
I cannot print my return nor save it to a PDF file because it wants me to check for updates to the form in the Help Menu. The Help menu does not provide me with anything of this nature and now I can not print nor save my file. I hope it still has the file saved somewhere !!! I hope a representative will contact me on this problem.

Worst version turbotax yet
Use TurboTax on MacPro through Parallels with Win10 OS. Entry of numbers to fields nearly impossible. Required repeated tries with entry and exit from tax form being worked on before numbers would take or "yes"/"no" sections would respond. Tried calls to help line x4. Message said"leave #" for callback in 10min. No callback. No help.
Will try to find alternate tax program for next year. Used TurboTax ever since it was "HomeTax". Never had problems with prior editions of TurboTax. Lost a long standing customer.

Paid for app and still get ads
It's like when I used to go to the movies ... pay up front, and still get bombarded with ads.
"Do not ask again" button does not work (but you know that).

No one to call for question
This program only gives out box answers. If you have something specific to ask there is no one to ask and if you try to call they direct you to the box answers...frustrating. Also the advertising and upsells in the program are annoying. We should be able to turn them off

Worse edition of TurboTax ever
I have been purchasing and using TurboTax since 2000 but will definitely try out the competition next year; development and support have been deteriorating over the years, to reach a real low with this edition. Perhaps no efforts are made on the desktop version so that customers bombarded with ads to go online end up with the online edition, but I want to stick to desktop software for filing my taxes..
Our tax situation is not complicated, but simple tasks such as splitting some dependent deductions or claiming provincial eco-renovation tax credit ended up being a headache, with either no explanation or super-cryptic warning messages. Clearly lots of bugs in the software. Not reassuring.
In this edition, fields did not always enter properly and we had to repeat some procedure multiple times for it to work. Help is useless and sometimes point to non-existing webpages or resources (perhaps only available when you purchase the upgrade :-). We had to often go to the Forms mode to access options that are no longer transparent, not to mention that one has to be creative to fix so-called errors that prevent from using NETFILE. Still some legal options were not properly allowed by the software. Very frustrating experience.

Worst tax season ever!
Many screen repititions upon clicking 'continue'.
Errors noted that were not errors. No matter how many times 'Fix' is selected - and everything is done over - one cannot Net File. Only option now is to select 'File Later'.
Remains to be seen if it will work tomorrow. (It's now 12.39 AM!)
Done with Turbo Tax!

Never Again
I've used Turbo tax for many years but this will be my last. Some of the reasons include: I can no longer "Save As" unless in forms mode but the biggest reason is the difficulty in finding out why things aren't working (or changed) e.g. last year my mom got the Trillium benefit and this year nothing. I'm still trying to figure out if it was my error, a budget change - who knows. Too much is automated yet it is SOOO easy to miss a tax credit that is optional. If nothing else the default should be YES. Who on earth will voluntarily give the government money for no reason.
