worst year of using TurboTax
I have used this product for 6 and QuickTax beforehand. I also use QuickBooks BUT this year's was a very frustrating experience. The SCRIPT ERROR would not go away - even after I tried reinserting the product CD desktop version.

What was wrong with this
I have purchased Turbo Tax for several years. This year I kept getting script error dialog boxes all the time and could not navigate using the left pane of the window to jump between places in the document.
Too bad, the previous years have worked great. I would ask for a refund if I would have known the issues but i opened the product. I will not waste my money next year I guess.

NEVER AGAIN
VERY HARD TO USE. MORE COMPLICATED EACH YEAR. ERROR ADDED MY UNUSED RRSP CONTRIBUTIONS FROM LAST YEAR AS IF I CONTRIBUTED THEM AND I HAD TO INPUT 0 INSTEAD. CAN'T CONTACT THEM ON THE WEEKEND WHICH IS OF COURSE WHEN MOST PEOPLE HAVE THE TIME FOR USE THE PROGRAM.

Worst software yet...!!

Caregiver
This year it doesn't allow you to claim for caregiver. Makes it harder to claim for someone you look after when they are over the age 80. Never had a problem claiming and yet whatever you have done with the program this year makes it so you can't claim.

2017 Turbo tax edition problem
This is the first time in over 15 years that the Turbo Tax program has given me problems. Just before entering my deductions an error comes on and closes my return therefore I cannot complete nor print. Cannot get an explanation for this error.

Update problems
Usually my favorite program. In 2016 version there were various update problems. I downloaded and installed updates 3 times directly from the website as the program has not been able to update from the program. The last update I downloaded in 2018 finally seemed to work but I still had to find and install it manually from the website. Only to have a friend's return not file with "Internet connection" problems. It seems that the real reason is CRA's netfiling service is closed until the end of February. None of the error warnings explained that. Also in paper printing the return, it takes users to printing a backup copy instead of printing one for CRA first, then asking if you want a backup copy. This causes users to exit the printing feature as it does not directly link to the condensed print version. Eventually I went through several screens of other print versions and questions and had to insert my 2016 install disk before the correct thing printed out. Never had this much trouble with any version before.

Terrible for T1135 foreign income
Treatment of T1135 (foreign income) form is terrible. No warnings of penalties for not filing separately. Showed as having filed this form (separately) but it did not go through to CRA, costing me additional penalties. Lack of adequate filing method for this cost me a lot this year.
Will never use TurboTax again, after having used it for over a decade.

Getting worse
It's a shame and waste of money! So slow and sometimes it says not responding, etc, can't navigate as used to and reduce the display (Ctrl -/+) most of the time don't work. I have a very decent laptop and all the other applications and software works fine, even streaming movies, videos, etc, so it's not my computer. Also, can't upgrade the TurboTax anymore as it fails all the time.
It used to be a very solid product but not the same any more!
Have been a user of this software for many few years. To me, this is a not a very high quality product and has not been tested the way it should. I will not be wasting my money on this this next year.
Very disappointed and dissatisfied.

Worst TurboTax Ever
I've been a Intuit/TurboTax customer for many years. This year, I had the more problems with the program than all the other years combined. This included problems saving/retrieving my files, problems registering the program (my brand new CD key had somehow already been used on all of the allowed computers?!), problems updating the program, etc. Thinking of turning elsewhere for next year.

No Updates!!
Won't Update!! The product is good. The easy is good. The final product to print the return is good. But one problem it wont take the update that it needs!! Spent 2 hours trying to update and giving up!! I wont buy this again as I don't see the value if I cant even general the return to have it in my hand!! Watermark on prints no PDF
I have been using TurboTax for five years, never again.
Filing with CRA through your software was a nightmare, not easy at all like last year. It takes me to a website that loops me back to where I started, not filing at all.
With no printer, I wanted to save them as PDF's to take to a friends house and mail. You cannot save as a PDF until you have printed. No option to save the unwatermarked return. When printing in read type saying these are the ones to send to CRA, they print with the watermark DO NO SEND... really? Do better. I am so upset with this years non-friendly program.

Very Bad Product
Does not work with any older versions of Windows any longer. I have been buying for years without any issues and now it no longer works with Windows Vista.
Does not work with Mac computers.
Not easy to download.
Impossible to get customer service representative on the phone.
Website difficult to get help on as it loops in circles.
I bought the disk and had to try to download online 3 times. I spent a total of 2.5 hours on the American help desk because the Canadian help desk is unreachable only to not have them be able to help me.
This used to be an excellent product, but the changes made to this years product has made it very difficult to deal with.
Totally not customer friendly. I suggest a Mac compatible version as well as a proper customer service number that is on the home page or on the product box itself.

Exasperating for Preparing a Final Return
TurboTax is exasperating to use to prepare a final tax return for an elderly deceased person and his/her widow/widower. You cannot prepare a joint return (as for a live married couple) even though investment income can be joint until death and pension income can be split until death. There is no helpful way to split investment income between a person's final return and the estate return that is filed later.
The software produces two different amounts for income splitting depending on whether you are doing the deceased or surviving spouses' return. The help files are not helpful when it comes to how to enter information. You are bombarded with popups admonishing you for entering information on the wrong form. TurboTax even offers tax savings tips like making contributions to an RRSP (for those well beyond the age at which RRSPs must be converted to RIFs) and taking advantage of TFSA's for deceased taxpayers. Those on the help phone lines are nice enough, but they have no access to useful information associated with preparing final tax returns.
Those who specialize in tax preparation are most likely to like TurboTax for all the business it drives their way.

Easystep is not Easy and Help is almost useless
Easystep should be a series of questions that make the whole process easier. Questions were vague and unclear in many cases. When you try and get help, it points to a bunch of user questions with answers. This is not the best way to tackle this. It's clumsy and lazy. (I'm a former software developer). I found the whole experience frustrating. It would be easier on paper. I've been using your product for over 20 years. It's been getting worse over the last few years. I'll be looking for alternatives next year. BTW...I never write reviews...but this was so frustrating, I took the time.

Errors in this year's version
I have used this software for years but this was the first time that I had errors. I was unable to Netfile accurately due to the error at line 179. The help online didn't help at all.
This was pretty disappointing. Next year I'll need to find something else.

WORSE CUSTOMER SUPPORT
I MUST HAVE CALLED AT LEAST 4-6 TIMES WITH AN ISSUE I WAS HAVING AND NO ONE WAS ABLE TO HELP ME. SOME HAD MORE KNOWLEDGE THAN OTHERS BUT THE BOTTOM LINE WAS THAT NO ONE COULD HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE.
