I did not find this product easy to use , I am a first time user previously all my taxes were done by an accountant but since my work status changed and I had less deductions to claim, I decided to do them myself and save myself the cost of an accountant.
I was wrong this product did not help me get the tax savings an accountant could and a lot of the terminology was not easy to understand in the end it was even hard to save and print copies and it would not let me netfile my whole experience was terrible.

I don't Like this Version
Difficult to navigate, impossible to find forms, and where is the mailing label ?
Suggestions were vague and did not lead you back to fix them.
This is the worst ever.

Charitable Donations Feature
Cannot get a mixture of pension split and donation optimizer to work with an automatic carry over of amount not needed. Have to play manually with the numbers and the pension optimizer. Seems like I was spending too much time to maximize my refund while trying to use the least amount of donations so I could save some for next year. The program does not automatically lower my donations amount. When I optimize the donations it gave me the amount I entered yet when I removed some donation receipts I still got the same refund.

Horrible Product
I've been using Turbo / QuickTax every year since it was first available (a dozen years?). It hasn't improved with age. this is a software product that should be far easier and better functioning than it is.
For example, telling me to fix something without providing a direct link to the spot where the problem exists is simply sloppy programming and laziness on the part of the people I pay for this product.
The mixture of radio buttons and drop-down lists where the choices are identical (Yes or No) is another sample of how poorly designed and delivered this software is. I wouldn't accept such inconsistent and sloppy UI design from a first-year university student, yet this product plods along year after year with the same awful design.

Worst tax preparation experience ever
I am not happy with this product at all.
1. Numerous sales promotions - very distracting and annoying when you are trying to figure out what to do next.
2. Kept warning me about 'errors' that were not valid.
for example: a low limit on charitable donations.
3. I have 50 years of experience in preparing income tax returns. I tried out the easy path to see what it was like - BIG mistake! Not sure return is correct or that you picked up the correct carry forward capital loss from previous year.
4.Let me enter Quebec income tax withheld without any warning that I did not have income to match it. Then would not let me e-file because of it.
5. Now that I have e-filed am trying to figure out how to pay my tax due.

System Crash
I completed tax returns for myself and husband. His Netfiled, mine didn't. Wouldn't let me by the warnings. Showed me owing money and my husband getting money back (around $100). Then the system error messaged that the memory was full and then went blank. Checked the pdf files I had saved and they weren't there either (I know I saved them and saw them because I did them twice with different titles). I re-entered all of the data again for both of us - great now it shows that we get back over $5,000. Can't resend mine and don't know if I should send his. Turbo Tax blamed it on me, go figure. Now I have to hire someone. Maybe I should submit my invoice to Turbo Tax.

Why in gds name did they ruin these product
Its very simple I have used TURBO TAX for many years with no problems and the flow was nice easy to move around in. the 2012 program has no easy of movement. Sometimes when do your taxes. you have to get info from another area, forget it with this version . you are get caught in a loop so that you never get to where you what two. in short gentlemen if this product does not return to the easy of use it use to have. I wont be buying it again. Also I will pass on this information to my friends.

bad ease of use, functions missing
1. did not import my data from ufile 2011
- ie did not import my dependant information
- did not carry forward CNIL, capital losses
2. Bad ease of use, hard to make changes
- each time I want to change something, I need to go over the step. eg from rrsp wizard, i find that I do not need to use all my rrsp contributions. So I have to go back to the interview profile step to select I need to forward rrsp contribution, otherwise I do not get rrsp work sheet to fill that in. In changing the profile, I need to go through all the steps that I do not need to change before I can get to the rrsp question. After that when I jump to the rrsp step, to fill in the data, again I need to answer all the questions again before I get the the point when I can put in the amount.
This same problem appears in every steps.
3. Cannot enter disposition of more than 2 bonds. The suggestion was just stupid. I need to manually added all the bond values together and create my custom form, then enter the data for each transaction on the custom 1 column form. This is obviously a bug or big oversight on the product designer!!

TurboTax Dropped Quality
This year, there are a lot of errors and unlike previous years, errors are extremely difficult to address. What's the point of using a software if one has to navigate through forms to detect those errors which are done due to interview and shouldn't have been misleadingly asked in the first place? These errors should have been tested before releasing the software.
Also, seems like TurboTax has became one of those products which is hiding the customer service telephone number. Simple; customer service telephone number should appear clearly on the software and before the chat rooms or forums. That also shows how confident TurboTax is with their product. Bottom line, TurboTax has dropped the quality to the extent that it would be very good timing for a competing software to be released.

Turbo Tax has become difficult
The set up and use of turbo tax has become extremely cumbersome and the help and hints nearly useless. There is no way to easily back up and make changes as one tries various scenarios and when some pages get included it is seemingly Impossible to remove the page if it does not apply.

Problem - cannot print to HP Laser setup on TCP/IP port. Receive error message - "Before you print, you need to select a printer." Adobe PDF Reader and other programs are printing correctly!
Will never buy TurboTax again.

Needs work
Should ask about the number of kids right of the top. Should be right with the married, common law, divorced section. I owed money until I searched for 20 minutes and finally figured out what was wrong. Some items could have better definitions, but I understand that you probably get them from the Government. The medical area is very confusing. I had 46 prescriptions to enter and I just guessed at how to combine them into one. You can't copy and paste which is annoying. it's also kind of confusing to back track sometimes. Going forwards pretty easy. Even though I found flaws it saved me a lot of calculating. There should also be a comment section to whom ever receives my return. I have sent notes with my hand made returns to explain possible errors etc...

My last year using turbotax
Over the past few years the screens trying to sell you audit defence increasingly bugged me.
This year, in addition to the useless sales pitches, the software automatically transfered credits to my spouse which impacted her ability to netfile. The only way to override the transfer is to create and file two independant returns, not do them as a couple.
The automatically transfered credits are of no use to her (they don't impact her return) and there is no way to override the transfer. You should at least be given the option to override any automatic assumptions!
Now I need to re-enter our returns.
Time to look for another solution.
Good by TurboTax

not happy
e.g. In entering personal profile, question on if there are other deductions are very misleading and can easily get missed, e.g., the question is not obvious in asking if somebody have northern deduction, logging etc, all it is asking is if someone have other deduction such as public transit etc.

It did the job but I don't think it's worth the price they want for it.

Worst yet!
This program does little to aid the taxpayer. Fix it. Get your wording correct, follow the tax guidelines carefully and ensure the product is the best for the consumer. Your explanations are well outside of Canadian Tax Law explanations and same goes for definitions. I would rather do the taxes by hand than to go through this type of a program again.
