Recommended improvements
The CRA has had some challenges this year with importing slips into tax software. It would be great if TurboTax enabled importing slips (specifically T5008s) from a CSV file.

Getting cumbersome
Long time user, but the many forms are getting cumbersome eg: T5008s requires a date and Cap/income before the entry becomes active and copied to correct field in Sch 3, Meanwhile US$ have to be overridden and converted to CAD, while the broker is not displayed. It is easier to use a spreadsheet, and skip - not the point of downloading the data. Cannot selectively down load (eg: CAD or broker only). Painful if you have more than 50 T5008s.

Makes Tax Time a Snap
I've been using Turbo Tax since 2004 when it was branded Quick-Tax. Before that, tax time was a period of cruel and unusual punishment. No more annual heaps of worn out erasers, pencil stumps, paper wads strewn about or self-medication. TT simplifies the filing process & allows me to sees results of changes or options immediately . Saves time, money, allows best decisions for my situation.

TT Standard 2024
I've been usinig turbotax for a long time and CanTax before that. The product has evolved and matured over the years. The self guided data entry makes getting around the tax forms so much easier plus the optimization tools really do help save on taxes paid.

Foreign Pension Income
Love the program though its not perfect.
I receive foreign pension income which I split with my wife. Turbo Tax does not automatically prorate the foreign tax deducted to transfer to my wife. I must manually calculate the amount to transfer.

Generally good for what's needed
I experienced considerable confusion trying to use TurboTax to handle a donation in-kind of stocks. The software's implementation and error messages for T5008 and T1170 did not go smoothly for me.

The most frustrating aspect is the software showing redundant questions that don't have any connection to my return plus flagging stupid areas that I have mentioned to Turbo Tax previously. ie: financial institution info on T3 (boxes 52 & 53) & a flag comes up " disposed of property owned less that 365 days". I complained about 3 similar things. Do they flag them to try to get people to pay them extra for help??

A workmanlike program for the Amateur.
I have used TurboTax for many years. The more it is developed to smoothly synchronize with CRA's needs and wants, the more it seems like a CRA agent. I make up my wife's and my returns and find the review process demands myriad information and figures that were unexpected. I hate to have both returns open on my PC at the same time in fear that the info will flow back and forth between our tax records and that small info will get passed that necessitates continual reviews before final printing.

Tax Time Again
Turbotax Standard is an excellent assist for Canadian tax filing. Using it in sequential years saves on data entry, avoiding simple errors. The optimizers are really beneficial. They help to ensure your best value return for you and your partner.

Okay but
Some of the questions are confusing and not enough explanations without going to CRA which is even more confusing. Error messages are not specific enough. I've used Turbo Tax for many years doing our family. Gets more confusing each year. Is it you or the CRA?

Capital Gains
you changed the need to add "date" to the T5008 camp gains entry. It took my a call to TurboTax and a lot of wasted time / frustration to detemine this is why my entries not going into T3 form. PLEASE have flag or note, if change thngs like this. Thx

DIFFICULT TO FIND ERRORS
I've used TurboTax for multi years; usually simple. Used Standard version, entered data myself rather than autofill. Entry of all our documents was straight forward and simple; the process works very well.
The Review process triggered additional fields requiring entry, although they were not intuitively obvious anywhere.
A warning about non capital loss and form T691 was troublesome to sort out. New warning this year, so I assumed it was causing the Netfile issues noted below; not so.
After trying to Netfile several times and receiving a rejection without an error code, a new Review warning showed up suggesting checking to make sure one's Access Code was correct. (It wasn't). Between CRA and Turbotax, I should have received a message like "your Access Code is incorrect". It would have saved me three days of rechecking everything.

Fixing Issues
Turbotax does'nt fix issues in a timely manner. For example not being able to NETFILE returns when you offset current year Cap Gains against prior years losses using "Loss Worksheet". I had to file my returns on April 19, 2025 without using gains offset

For the most part, TurboTax is good.
For the most part, TurboTax is good. It is not TurboTax's fault that CRA is missing many of the T-slips from the online CRA accounts this year. I would like to be able import my client's T-slips via my Represent a Client account, but this does not seem to be possible. Why not?
