Great product
I've been using turbotax since the late 2000's.
It's a great product for anyone. My only personal suggestion to better the format would to be placing a bold header about when to input RRSP contributions. With a T4A receipt? or when prompt in the RRSP section? Only a small sentence at the end of the T4 input page says not now, and can be easily over sighted. Overall it's a great product that I will continue to use in the future. Is it possible for a cheaper Standard version for 1 return? I don't require 8. Thx.

Overall easy to use, but some concerning behaviour
Taking data from previous year's return, the EasyStep option to quickly move through all requirements, and the Netfile option were all very helpful.
I provided my feedback within the product and never hear back.
One concern I had was filling out the medical expenses. With each receipt, I could see the total tax owing go down. Until I was done, and then the tax owing jumped back up to the value before I started that section.
I saw this with the medical plan as well - in this case I expected to see some drop in the tax owing, but saw no change.
Then there was the foreign income. You are required to put in the non-CAD income and the conversion rate. Then the CAD value is supposed to be calculated. I assumed that CAD value would be added to the total income, but it was not, it was the foreign currency value. Looking at the PDF, I can't even find where those entries are.
Speaking of the PDF, I can't find all the medical expenses I entered.
Why wouldn't all the entries I made be in the PDF? If CRA comes calling, that's what I would consult.

Printing of forms where data has been entered
There are some forms that even though data has been provided, they do not print (with suppress blank forms) an example of this is the 2209.

Optimizer not reliable-be careful
Trusting the optimizer, medical expenses were claimed on the spouse's Federal tax return even thought they were not needed on his return (the non-refundable tax credit amount was enough without them to bring the tax payable to zero). I realized the error and I had to amend my returns by claiming the medical expenses in my tax return (income was a little higher than my spouse's income) but at least we benefited from the claim by receiving an additional refund of over $350.00. I hope that Quick tax would amend their calculation to ensure the best results and not base their calculations only on the lowest income. People could loose a lot especially those who trust it for taking the best decisions for them. Thank you

This year I used the CD download version. Last year I used the online version and was not able to link the 2 versions to allow the bring forward info or compare the 2 years. There needs to be a easy way to link the 2 different formats

Print problem
Doing my wifes and my returns together. Printing prints only my wifes return when I specify that it should print mine. I tried this more than once, and it continues to print only my wifes return.

It Works
As a couple with simple self employment and pension income I find TurboTax Standard to be effective and efficient. I've done taxes for many years with TurboTax so I start with the EasyStep and then move to Forms method.. The optimizers are real handy.

Easy to use.

TT upsell
Long time Standard TT user. TT advertising states that Standard cannot be used with certain incomes (eg capital gains, rentals etc). TT agents confirmed this on the phone. TT tried to upsell to the more expensive Premium version. CRA also confirmed there were no directives as to which version of software should be used. Despite TT efforts to upsell the Premium edition, I used Standard that does indeed allow business, investment, rental income etc to be inputted and Netfiled. As a caveat to my TT complaint, I would say it may be prudent for inexperienced tax filers to use Premium if it offers more guidance in these more complex tax situations. TT should try and make it clear that Premium is RECOMMENDED, not prescribed in these situations. I'll continue to use TT Standard in the future because the product itself is good.

Review
The handling of T5008s has improved but needs more work.
All entries from the input T-slips should carry forward in un-summarized form to the Shed 3 Supp page. Currently you cut it off a 29 entries, then a total for the rest. This removes a better way to confirm all entries are correct.
The handling of T5013s should be clearer.
The box numbers should be in numeric order, not all over the place. The date should be loaded down from My Account – the CRA has it. More clarity is needed for box 135. Many orgs (eg Brookfield) give 2 or more values with country codes. Better instructions should be given to handle this a place to enter the county codes.
The download button from CRA is hard to find. Put it on the top row.

Solid program for uncomplicated tax returns
I've used this program for over a decade. I use it in 'Forms' mode. If you know what you are doing this is the method that will give you the most confidence that your return is accurate.
This year the ability to 'import' T-slip information directly from the CRA was especially nice.
I can't comment on how user friendly it is, if you let the program lead the way.

more complicated
For some reason things have become more complicated. Where in previous years, Turbo Tax prompted and optimized. This year it gave errors but did not explain how to correct unless i upgraded to higher version. Made things a bit more challenging having to figure it out on my own. Reminded me of pre-Turbo Tax days

Eases the struggle somewhat
Tax time is taxing...and Turbo Tax does make it easier - but the terrible lag and slow loading, coupled with a poor progress indicator and no "loading" animation, topped off with bad navigation, makes me think there is better software out there - or there should be!

invasive questions

Take your time!
Its great to use, and lets you test out all kinds of options. Not so easy to save the PDF file, and find it again, so I created a Turbo Tax file just for these files. Have all you information summarized before hand. Much easier.
