Great Purchase
Have been purchasing and using Turbo Tax software since 2010. Why? Because of its ease of use and it saves me a lot of time in having to do my tax returns manually.

The interface is a bit overly dumbed down and the easy step process a bit painfully pedantic, but the math seems sound and optimizers are good.

Works Great but ....
Turbo Tax works great but, on Form T1032 I needed to do an override on the number of months married because my wife was deceased, in order for it to calculate correctly (as required by CRA). However, when you use an override, Turbo Tax will not allow you to Netfile. This should NOT be an override. I completed all of the other information correctly with respect to my marital status and the death date of my spouse, but the field defaulted to 12/12 instead of 5/12 as it should have.

Install problem
I had a lot of trouble installing the program. It kept coming up as a blank screen. It was difficult to get directions on how to fix it. Once installed correctly it worked fine but I wont go through that again unless the problem is fixed.

Turbo tax works well, however, there are some instances (e.g. line 30100) that refers to a worksheet and there is no way of accessing the item to determine how the value is calculated,

Great for first timers or experienced
Two options to complete tax returns helps the inexperienced with a easy to follow walk-through method or for the experienced filer go straight to each form as and when you want.
Full review allows for changes to be made at any stage until return filed. Plenty of checks by the software to ensure you've filed correctly.

More Stable than a competitor
Tried a download competitor that I have used for many years. This year it kept altering my return amount for absolutely no reason. This could have been easier, it seems to make deductions for you, but they never seem to show up in the summary. You know it has made them by deducting them and seeing the difference and then reentering them.

RRSP To late in life

This year's income tax was not as easy as previous years. Don't know if there was a lot of changes to the program this year, or if it was because of all the COVID stuff that had to be added, but it seemed to fight with me at every turn. Was not as impressed as I've been in the past.

I find the Turbo Tax easy to download. Using the Canada Revinue Agency connection, I can make sure all slips are reported and the numbers are correct. I always have trouble printing my return.

Good but be attentive
This sofyware is easy to use and intuitive. I have had issues with automatic download from CRA, so dont take it for granted that automatic entries are right or complete. Entering a T5 issued in US$ does not provide an entry point for conversion. Best to enter a converted value and not the face value of the T5

Still room for improvement
Before the tax calculation, let the taxpayer determine how much to claim. The tax payer may like to defer (not to claim full but carry forward)some balances/items to the future years because there is still a charitable donation behind the basic tax. The tax player may like to take portion or the whole available donation balance.

TurboTax input for T5008 accepts only 2 decimal values for column 16 (Quantity), whereas the Statement Provider shows 4 decimal values. This is annoying.

Easy to Use

Great product unless filing for someone deceased
I've been using this product for many years and every year it gets easier to use. Unfortunately I had to file for a deceased relative this year, for whom I've done taxes for several years. The program does not seem to recognize that you cannot import documents from CRA nor file electronically with CRA for a deceased person which makes it quite confusing.

Good Product, but!
I like the ease of using Turbotax. We are retired and don't have complicated situations like rentals or big investments. I had a simple question this year about a medical expense sheet I got from our pension plan office and when I asked Turbotax, I was told that I would have to pay $54.99 to talk to a rep or upgrade to the next level. I think that paying for the standard Turbotax ($39.99), I would at least be able to get an answer without paying extra. (I asked my son and he told me the proper answer). That kind of pushed my opinion of Turbotax down a notch. In short, watch what you pay for in Turbotax. They seem to want to upgrade you at the drop of a dime!

TurboTax did not recognize the CCA class code "54" that was available for the accelerated depreciation of electric vehicles even though it describes it on the TurboTax CCA page. You are given warnings at review stage because it still does not recognize the class 54.....this needs to be fixed in at the next update.
