My daughter did my taxes for me. She has been using this brand for years and finds it is always reliable and pretty accurate. sometimes cant find answers to questions and have to call CRA directly but other than that the info section is quite useful.

some errors
If only rent is being paid by a taxpayer why does Turbo Tax insist on reporting the property tax and the roll # before accepting for net file.
CRA only requires the landlords name.

Mainly good, But ...
Most of the information in this year’s TurboTax was plain and easy enough to follow, (I used EasyStep.) But there were a few places where I had problems with it. So in no particular order:
(1) When I had finished recording my various donations I realised that I had a whole file of Charitable Donations which in other years had come up automatically. This year it didn’t. I had to go in by the ‘back door’ and fill it in using the ‘worksheet’ which I found through Forms, finding Donations etc. I checked and found that “Charitable Donations” WAS checked off in my Personal Tax Profile. Why did it not come up later automatically as an item to complete?
(2) When I came to the page for Northern Residence Deductions there was a choice between
Zone A and Zone B. There was no explanation about that in the whole section, where and what was Zone A and/or Zone B, nor what was considered to qualify as “Northern”. I looked into the Help section, and read everything that I could find, even going to the CRA website. Couldn’t find anything - Even a search using my web browser gave me only the ‘information’ that I could find the list of towns, cities, etc. on the CRA website. Well, good luck with that. I ran 3 searches using the CRA’s own “Searchbox” and got nowhere. I finally decided that it was only for the far north (although I never found anything that said so, so I didn’t make any claim). A lot of people must have either been frustrated with that one, or else they just ignored it. Of course, few of them live in the north. But I’d still like to find out what and where Zone A and Zone B are ...

Sigh - nobody’s perfect.

TurboTax Basic lacking
I had to upgrade to Standard when Basic did not do everything it advertised. Even Standard would not allow me to file electronically because of what it deemed "errors" but were accurate information. Surely that should be up to me to determine. I've been using TurboTax for years, and it is more user-friendly than before, but these problems should be fixed. And, it should be easler to get through to a real person for questions about the forms.

Just one problem you should fix
Using Forms view, it is impossible to enter a negative number in line 42 of T3!! I reported this error to a very helpful phone employee (Javeria) who verified that there was a problem with the software and you have to switch to Easyforms.Case #461481929

Small error
There is a small error in the Turbotax program. When asked if I wanted to put all the medical (or donations) onto the lowest taxed person (my wife), and I selected yes, it caused MY tax due to INCREASE by $200!! Hers stayed the same, that was, zero. Needless to say, I quickly change our returns back to the most favourable arrangement. I've noticed this in previous years even when my wife's taxes due were quite low, but not zero.

Splitting T5 with spouse
I split my T5 50% with spouse. I assumed it would reduce my amount by 50% but it did not. I had to manually set my share to 50%. It was not caught by turbotax review of return.

Very Good Value
I have used this product for quite a number of years and I wouldn't want to file our taxes without it. My observation is that any complexity in the process is caused by the almost incomprehensible Canadian taxation structure. TurboTax is a necessity.

RELIABLE
I had never filed my own return. My late husband did it for me. He used Turbotax so I thought how hard could it be? I filed our return after his passing and his final return as well as mine as a widow.Only reason for 4 stars is because I ran into an issue with transfer of information. I changed provinces and had difficulty correcting the conflict with self employment that was imported.

Simple but Complicated
Sometimes the navigation through the software is not intuitive. Inputting details of charitable donations and medical expenses is very tedious. It would be better to just fill out the form in list format without having the 1,2,3,4,etc box table format for input for both types of expenses. What was to be done in the Capital Gains Schedule because of changes in CRA rules for previous years was not explained whatsoever. Found no help. Feel you would have to be a tax expert to figure out what is required. I'll still use the software next year.
