Solid Purchase
Reliable income tax prep year after year. Easily rolls over the previous year's returns. Help is reasonably complete. The wizards to help optimize the allocation of donations, tuition, income splitting, etc. are intuitive to use. Printing can sometimes be awkward.

2019 version
Product worked great as usual. Only improvement required is to create some defaults related to CRA downloads. I exited certain investments in 2019 resulting in almost 400 entries on my T5008. These were in a joint account and I had to go to each entry and enter the percentage ownership etc. In prior years I just entered the summary from my broker as a single entry which was much more efficient than using the auto fill and down loading from CRA.

One annoying bug
I found one glitch in the software. In a prior year, I had reported self employment income. There is a box that asks for the province of self employment. The software brought forward that data from past years' returns, but I could not clear it. I do not have self employment income this year and that box ought to be blank, but the province kept coming back, even after I tried to delete it.

good, but could be better
some awkward areas; could use a 'housecleaning'. I had trouble with "AutoFill"; double check all info if you use this feature. Also, every time I boot up the program it wants to know if I want to use the AutoFill feature, even after it was used. It has 3 close options for some reason, but there is no need for this screen to pop up every time. There should be a disable feature so users can stop the irritation.

Consistent - with a few issues
Makes taxes easy but every year there are a few small glitches some of which are never fixed. e.g. T1135 no zero amt, Resubmit screws up personal info, Donation optimizer overrides a field it shouldn't!

We'll see for 2019
I hesitated this year buying TurboTax, but decided the ease of filing was worth the risk. I spent the last 8 months dealing with the CRA because TurboTax 2018 DOUBLED my medical expenses claim when I filed for my wife and I last year. I should have been more diligent reviewing the Return before NetFiling, but it was a nightmare with many threats, horrible CRA phone agents, and reassessments that made no sense to me or the accounting firm I went to locally that ended up saving me. Intuit never did return my email requests for help. The program would not stop doubling the medical expense claim. No medical expenses claim this year, so fingers crossed.

Excellent
An excellent tax software yet I still think it's not fully recommended for anyone with little knowledge of taxes, even with the easy-step. You also have to be careful with the print to pdf and print feature, if you print just 'Federal Tax Return' you will not get your full return with all forms. You have to select every individual form, they should have a 'select all' option. Otherwise it's great to work with!!

Good but SLOWWWWW!!!
Very good and useful. My biggest criticism is (and has been for YEARS) its extremely slow loading ... literally takes a couple of minutes or even longer. Why is this and why has this not been fixed?????

Good product but could see some improvements
Overall good but could use some improvements: 1) similar to optimizing the pension split, there should be the ability to optimize investment income and charitable donations. Also, if one is optimized the other 2 need to be re-calculated. 2) even though some calculations are automatic (e.g. age credit), worksheet should be available to print to see calculation. 3) stop producing warnings for things not indicated in the return.

Doing a simple, basic return
My most recent experience was doing a 1st, basic, simple return for a family member. I found I was having difficulty answering a few of the questions such as does CRA have full birth date info? Then I found several questions that would likely be impossible to apply due to the age & previous questions answered as I felt the system must know the answers & that they not likely could apply. Also really did not find info. as to whether I could Netfile this one or info to who could or could not Netfile. I was pleased to find that there were not an excessive amounts of pages that had to be mailed. My own tax return carries all info. from previous return so not the same problems in most cases & I can Netfile them making it easier. This was my 1st time to do another person's return.

What I did not appreciate is at the section of personal exemptions. Line 30100 where it says complete the work sheet. But you don't have a work sheet. It is done automatically. So I do not know the number where it comes from. If you compare this to NB LINE 58080 you are able to see how it was calculated.

A happy first time user
Great product. I'm a first time user of TurboTax. A lot of helpful information to understand what exactly need to be done. I like to click on the helpful hyperlinks, which opens a small window and explain everything about it. This helps me to leave the guess work out.

Medical receipts
Wished to enter 7 medical receipts but worksheet would only accept the first three. They were dated the end of the year. The others had mid year dates. The dates were withing the range defined on the worksheet.

This is a good product. I had reasons to use an accountant for several years but returned back to this program. The EasyStep option with the Forms also accessible is great. My big complaint is that when using EasyStep my name is NOT on that screen. So while doing partners' forms it can be quite confusing. I would love if you could fix that!

Done with my 2019 filing
As in the past years, TurboTax is easy to use and allow me to complete my returns painlessly. There was one hiccup that it did not complete the registration due to server connection problem. Otherwise, I will continue to use it in coming years.
