Quite good
The product is good but still slightly flawed. If you entered a foreign pension, later you get this message, "You can claim a deduction for foreign pension if it is tax free in Canada because of a tax treaty." You click, "Applies to me" and nothing happens. You check line 256 under Forms and nothing is there. This flaw has been there for years and needs to be corrected. Otherwise someone using only EasySteps would not know what to do.

Things to Fix
The medical optimizer generally is wrong. Don't know how it makes this decision but I always get a better result when I choose.
For medical expenses I would like to see a report showing ALL expense lines AND I would like to be able to go directly to line entry screen to fix any noted problems. Process as set up is NOT good when you have a lot of entries.

Easy to use
I've been using Turbo Tax for years. I use Easy Step and that is really easy to follow.
I would recommend removing some of the nagging pages to go over the warnings again and again.

One problem
Always easy to use but this year the download from the DVD had problems and was necessary to delete and download from the web site after a lot of looking to find the correct site.

LONG TIME USER

The only shortfall I see using this tax program is it lacks a medical expense travel worksheet that would aid the user in entering date/to/from/mileage/rate/meals/parking and accomadations...just saying....

Worth the cost for me
I love that the new version comes automatically for the new year. Also that it imports all pertinent info from previous year.
Nice to have the step by step process and all the prompts to ensure all deductions and best choices. Simple to finish and netfile.

Northern deduction
IN this return NO matter what I do I cannot get rid of the northern living deduction. I know I did not claim it I am not entitled to it but it will not leave the final return even though the list of deductions shown on a previous page does not include it, it shows up in the final calculation of deductions.

Joint Election to Split Pension
I checked Yes to split pension but it did not split the pension.I have to do it manually. I almost missed it & almost lost a refund on this. Turbo Tax should give a clearer warning that you checked Split pension but did not do it. The warning in the review is not clear enough.

Pretty good
I use the forms method and things go fairly quickly. There are some checks that it could do that it doesn't (e.g.: checking for capital losses that could be applied) and and I find some of the review checks clearly don't apply to me, but are shown anyway. Other than that it's a solid package.
I could do without the extra charge options such as having someone review my return for a fee, etc.

I have used this software for many years. Always excellent results. This year started return on March 3 and had issues with income splitting. Couldn't find problem. Continued March 20. Update installed by TurboTax.The indicated refund at March 3 was a lower than previous years. After the update the Refund shown was more than $2,000 higher than when I closed it March 3. If I had filed early I would have lost that money.

Desktop Version Good but online no so much
Purchased the on-line version to save a disk but it would not import the previous years tax info, so had to call in and be given an auth # for the desktop version and download it. The on line version box says its compatible with the desktop version to import files though.

Mostly Pleased
I have used turbotax for many years. This is the first year, however, that my previous tax information was not available to be transferred. That made for a longer than necessary experience. Once my information was in, however, things went smoothly.

Dependable but
Software worked as expected. For the first time I was unable to register product online. Four attempts over two days resulted in reject due to: unable to connect. No obvious way to reinput completed form, had to enter all data each time and odd that one can access the form and connect but rejected as unable to connect. Annoying!

Improvements suggested
As some Canadians, I have income that is in American dollars. The Canadian equivalent is based on the average exchange rate set by the Bank of Canada. That exchange rate (from whatever country) should automatically be placed into the program where ever it is needed by Turbo Tax and on the next line, the resulting total to be shown immediately, not in some other form which is often hidden from view.

You need to fix the system problems
I encountered a problem with the update, it wouldn't download at first, until I played around doing this and that, finally it downloaded. The second thing was the fix key wasn't working with T4A. I must say the technical staff was very helpful to fix this problem.

using since 2012 - first error encountered
I had a problem this year 2019 with the WBC workers benefit credit. I put in all information correctly, married , not living apart, etc but when the program calculated schedule 6, the question: is your spouse eligible, there was no yes neither a no. so the credit was calculated as a single person. I had to change that myself to have the correct amounts. Please ask someone in programming to fix this. ASAP
