I do find it very confusing, and am unable to find some deductions that our accountant was always able to find for us.
He unfortunately passed away, several years ago.

Useful
To whom is not canadian and not used to filling taxes could be cumbersome, but at the end is useful. Some things, like the updates which might you loss all your work, doesn't work well.

GREAT HELP ONCE AGAIN

Nothing Better
I was very pleased with the 2019 product. I opt to enter all of my forms rather than downloading them. I maintain ACBs on all of my investments which I find more accurate than most of the T5008s provided. I did find that there were still some superfluous pages included in the printout

Helpful For Life Changes

easy to use
major problem with turbo tax this year. there was no T4aP box in this years unit. Made it extremely hard to file my taxes. Took hours to find the problem since T4a and T4aP are not the same. Called the support line and even they could not find the problem. Had to check last years taxes to solve it.

It's served me well
Everything about TurboTax Standard is easy to use, and pretty self-explanatory, except for a few things. I have very little knowledge about how the inner workings of tax returns and credits and refunds work, and rely greatly on TurboTax leading me through step by step. One area where they fail in being super clear is the credits, where you have to select which credits apply to you, and the property tax section. I always feel a little unsure about the information I am entering, and what should apply to me. Other than that, great product. Just filed 2019! Excited for our refund.

Familiar, easy to use
I have used Turbo Tax for many years. It is easy, straightforward, and looks like the paper returns used to, so it is familiar looking. One doesn't really need a good understanding of the whole income tax thing IF you are able to follow instructions. There is the option to be guided through from start to finish or to do the job more independently and do form by form or switch between the two.
I would have liked some information about whether, how and when the GST and PST refunds are paid out. It used to be that we needed to check a box if it was being requested. Now the CRA decides based on return, which is fine but do tell us.

Difficulty using Windows 10
When I loaded the disk and started the install, i was directed to either use Windows 7 or install Windows 10. It was highly recommended to Install Windows 10. The problem is that I already had Windows 10 and there was no button that I could see for that situation. So, I went with the Windows 7 option. How should I have done this to use the Windows 10 version as I will want to do next year?

Purchased and tried to use On-line version. Found it challenging. Purchased CD Version and it worked very well. Easy to follow forms and progress with CD Standard version. Sometimes difficult to find info. Eg...how come my deduction for Old age was reduced. Had to go to revenue canada to find explanation. Turbo Tax was right but couldn't followthe process.

Good software!
Only one complaint, and it is a persistent one: the so-called warnings are superfluous and rarely indicate some shortfall in the return as completed. They should be refined, or even omitted.

Don't buy what you don't need
Every year in the process of working through our taxes using "Standard", I get advised of a need for an update to "Premium" at a cost. The reason is not correct. I have reported this before but it happened again this year. I wonder how many people do the update when it really isn't needed. Other than that the product is okay and easy to do. You really have to read and understand what you read before you answer.

Medical Expense Optimizer
I have used TT since it was first put on the market. I have never had confidence that the Medical Expense Optimizer works, I change the date bar and nothing appears to happen.
The Help info does not provide clear information. I hope this can be inproved for tax year 2020 and beyound.

Download without CD dive
I purchased the CD but do not have CD drive. When trying to load through instructions given, NO SUCCESS. NO support. Should have a page that says download without drive, click it and then insert installation key code. Had to borrow external CD drive! Help did not help solve problem. We do not have an updated laptop, no cell phones, only IPad so very frustrating!

Takes the stress out
Now that I have a straight forward return I can do my wife's and mine in an hour or so. The Easy Step feature is very clear. Before when I had investments and loans Turbo Tax made it very easy, The Help drop down menu simply explained in more detail the entries.
