Pretty good.
I do find there is a bit too much back and forth required. The actual Netfile process is a bit confusing and then it appears I've been forced to do this review rather than just get on with the filing.

Much improved over last year
Last year's version was pretty bad in terms of functionality, repeatedly crashing and putting up error messages -- a marked departure from previous versions, This year you brought out a version that was even better than the good versions you had prior to last year's disaster. Kudos for this.

Ok, but has some glitches
It's great to calculate your returns and you can play around with donations, medical expenses, pension splitting, etc. to maximize your return and easily see what works best. It had some problems with the CD working the last 2 years and I had to phone the company and get the downloaded version, but didn't have to pay an additional fee. Last year, it wouldn't accept any of my industry codes for one of my businesses. Years ago, it was called Quick Tax and you could file many returns on one purchase. Over the last 10 years, they have gotten more stingy about that and have reduced the number of qualifying returns several times. Calling the help line is only available M-F during the day EST, our workday time in MST. It takes minimum 3 min. to get through the phone menu and whatever wait time to speak to a representative. Often, they are not too helpful in resolving your issue. If it is closing time, the phone menu puts you on hold and asks you to wait for the next representative and doesn't kick you off, so if you don't figure it out, you will be waiting a LONG TIME!! No timely response to questions on the online forum. Very polite phone agents though. And it's awfully nice to Netfile those taxes.

Annoying features
1. If I can enter data into a field, I should able to both copy from it and paste into it. Lack of this capability costs me at least 2 hours when doing taxes, increases the possibility for errors and is generally enraging. TurboTax US has this ability.
2. I should able to enter T5 income in foreign currency on a T5 because I currently get a T5 that has income in United States dollars.
3. I would save at least 2 hours if all payees of income were carried over from year to year as well as donation recipients and possibly medical expense recipients. Again I believe that TurboTax US has this capability. This also would be a help in verifying I have all needed documentation.

Good value for cost
TurboTax Standard has been my preferred tax software for many years going back to Intuit. It provides excellent tax services for those who do not have extensive investments or out of the ordinary income or deductions. Get the upgraded Premier or Self-Employed editions for these requirements.

good not great
Turbo tax 2016 and 2017 are easy to use, but the charitable donation carry forward does not work. It imports it in a goofy way that is hidden from view, then it asks you to enter the amounts you have submitted previously. Don't do that as it will add them in to your available donations again and you could end up claiming more donations than you actually have. I found it because I kept my own carry forward log and noticed the error. ALSO, the charitable donation calculator SUCKS! It wanted me to needlessly carry forward almost all of my donations rather that use enough to cancel my provincial and some of my federal tax. That reduced my tax back by almost half. Instead I used a formula I developed to tell me exactly how much of my donations to use to cancel all provincial tax owing and some of the federal tax without wasting any of my donations. I had a few donations above that so I carried them forward.
So overall Turbo Tax is easy to follow, but be careful with any carry forward balances from previous years and don't trust Donations maximizer.

I did a return for my mom and I and found that there are some areas that are a little hard for me to understand and it seems that my mom used to get a lot more tax credit for property taxes paid then this year . maybe I did something wrong . My return took a very long time to send to the CRA and not sure if they received it at all????????

Buggy Non-resident support
According to the CRA website (item 40, under Reporting Responsibility at https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/international-non-residents/information-been-moved/foreign-reporting/questions-answers-about-form-t1135.html), only residents need to file T1135. However, TurboTax required me to complete this form despite my being a non-resident. The answer at https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/questions/1714745-do-non-resident-have-to-report-t1135 didn't really address the issue.

makes income tax filing easy
This year, I had to specifically request the page to list my donations as it seemed to "skip" this page. I requested it further along and so was able to make sure that all was well. Otherwise, a happy experience as per usual!

Saving Documents
You really need to look at how many times you ask for the document to be saved and closing out, you are stuck in a "save the document" loop. I've been using this product for over 20 years even surpassed the recommendations of a paid accountant, in my 1st year using it. Never looked back. But for sure -- need to SAVE to a many times.

I have used Turbo Tax for several years now.
I found the program quite easy to use. This year I had RRSP information to enter that was not reported on my 2017 return. Found this part very challenging. That's when I call Turbo Tax for a review.
The agent (Robin) was wonderful, and helpful. She was very knowledgeable and patient. I would not hesitate to call again.

good value
I have been using turbo tax since 2011. I know there are other products and companies out there but turbotax has always been reasonably priced, and provides me with a quick and effective method of filing taxes on my own. It's easy to navigate and was simple to use from my first time.
