Seemed more labour intensive than in past years and not as user friendly. Medical receipts not flexible enough when you are "bulk" inputting info. Should have from/to dates. Also frustrating to exit as no option to say "I already have a CRA account". That option not provided so either you have to reapply or tell a fib and say "not ready" when you really are ahead of the software. Might seriously consider paying a vendor to do mine next year to see how stressful that is.

Good software with one minor irritant
I have been using TurboTax for many years and find it affordable and easy to use.
However, for the 2017 and 2018 versions, every time I open a return, a dialog box opens that offers to load T-form info automatically from the CRA website. There is no way I can see to stop this from appearing every single time I open a return. Surely the program can be adjusted so that this only appears the first time that a return is opened?
One other minor issue is that whenever I print a paper form or return, the bottom line or two cannot be printed legibly. Perhaps the program can be modified slightly to allow home printers to print the full text of all forms?

good but watch it!
I don't know why Turbo Tax doesn't default the language of correspondence with the CRA to English if you have already used English to complete the files. I missed this box 3 times now and my notice of assessment comes in French! It can't be that hard to fix this.

printing confusion
Once return is completed I find it hard to know which print options to use: save a copy for myself OR save a copy of my return OR save a copy to print OR print a copy. And TT keeps going back to present me with a choice I've already made.

Straight forward for simple returns. Details on more advanced items (moving for business, home office deductions) require additional legwork on the CRA website to understand what items qualify and what the terms used actually mean.

Too much upselling
I find the constant messages to upgrade to the more expensive version, or pay for legal backing, or pay for accounting assistance annoying. I paid for the product. I shouldn't have to be subjected to constant advertising.

Tax 2018 Turbo Tax
Liked the Tax program. Would like to be able to ask on line questions about Income tax questions and clarify rules that may be confusing. "E" mail hot line or Live chat feature on Turbo Tax. would be nice

Good but often awkward
Overall it worked well. After using it for many years I know how it works. And Standard has all the forms l I need for my sole-proprietor business.
But at least for me (running it in Parallels Desktop on a Mac) it was annoying that to scroll most forms I had to drag on the window's scroll bar and could not use trackpad gestures. And for many fields (for example when entering donation or medical claim details) it was not possible to paste data from other windows such as PDF tax receipts. I had to type it all in from the keyboard.

My pains in the butt
I found it difficult (and confusing) getting back into the software where I had left off. I had to go through many screens to pick up where I had left off.
Also how to get out of the software and knowing everything was saved, as I did lose some entered data in one case. Do I save thru Explorer or TurboTax or both?
The pop-up portion of tax form at the bottom of some of the entry screens should be in a smaller font to allow viewing without scrolling left and right to see the line description and the entered amount.
I spent a LOT of time trying to determine if the "REL 1 Box 211" amount was added to my Quebec Medical expenses (or how to enter it). Eventually got my answer from the Question/Answer section. (That was a help.)
I am currently reluctant to print off my 4 returns because in 2017, it took 80 pages of print including many pages without data. If I had filed with paper forms, I would have had maybe 25 pages of forms and schedules (and that would have been included in the tax package free for the government. I am hesitant to just save a copy as a file on my computer.

I can hardly wait until next year (NO). Have a good year .... Yessir

Standard Turbotax Covers it All
I have used Turbotax and Quick tax for over 15 years and have yet to find a situation that cannot be handled easily by the Standard version without having to upgrade.
I always print out the Turbotax summary page to compare with the previous year and I would like to see a little more detail on this table. For example, investment income shows up as one line, and I have to dig a bit and manually itemize the categories, such as interest, other income, actual and grossed up dividends, and separate eligible and ineligible dividends. Otherwise a great feature and a great product.
The planning feature is also very useful, especially when changes are anticipated.

I don't know if it is Turbotax or CRA to blame but it is ridiculous that you do not allow both spouses to claim charitable amounts and still netfile!!! I understand that it is USUALLY better for only one spouse to claim charitable amounts BUT IN OUR CASE BOTH NEED TO MAKE THAT CLAIM!! That means that one return must be paper filed which is a PAIN!!!!!

Turbo gets most of the job done
If your return is straight for or a small business this works fairly well unless you have a situation with non capital losses from previous years. I wasn't able to claim this on our taxes next year I will be going to our accountant instead for this matter.

Good but you still have to understand taxes
Hi
I always used this product as a expert. Ie fill in the forms method.
Doing this is ok, but you still have to understand taxes a bit., that being said, finding particular forms that I do not know the name of them could be made a bit better in the program.
To cercomvent the shortcomings I just google the internet for the name of the form then I use form lookup in TuboTax. Doing this works great. But why should I have to jump to Google to look up the form name?
Turbo tax form lookup is not that great that is why.
Overall though this product is GREAT.!
TAXES in Canada are complex and the program makes a relatively simple minded person like me to be able to do my taxes professionally and accurately for the last 15 years!!!!! (the program use to be called Quick Tax as I recall)

Another Great Product

Good software
Use TurboTax 8 years now and each year my return gets more complicated. lol but software is able to keep up what's needed and when in doubt I bookmark or use search, it's really good, I recommend.

Optimize does not work.
Optimize does not work properly. I manually changed various income amounts and expenses with my wife after I clicked "Optimize". Each time I did it, I received a larger total refund for the two of us.

Still not quite there
Turbo Tax is OK for uncomplicated, normal tax returns. Not so much for others. I had to do the return for my deceased mother, and constantly ran into problems. There are also bugs, when I clicked on the 'enter more income' link for "Other Income", it brought up the Find screen instead of Other Income. I tried to enter the property tax for my mother, and it would not let me. There may be a reason for this, but no explanation came. It also kept printing the property disposal page when there had been no such thing. When printing the for personal record copy of the return, it prints a lot of unneeded garbage, like definitions and blank pages. When doing a 2nd return, the program never gave me the option to import last year's data. I tried to import T4A slips, and could not get the amount to show. It was like that income never existed. Went back to doing from scratch.
