2018 turbotax comments
Overall, a great & useful tax tool. I question why the TOSI section needs to be included in the saved or printed version if it is not applicable to me/my spose? A lot of paper was wasted as a result. Can you not have it deleted in the future if it is NOT applicable. That would sure would be nice.

Needs some work
Everything was fine till the confirmation of dependents. Children 14 & 11 so Why ask questions about prison time or if married. The questions are misleading, Yes or no questions should not start with Not. Should start with Are you married. Tiring to trick people so the do not get the full benefits

Only issue that I have problems with is the Capital Loss carry forward. Loss shows on "Loss" worksheet, is not auto populated to the amount that can be claimed on line 253. Any attempt to insert is meet with frustration. Only at the final errors stage was I able to insert!!!!

As to exemptions:
Age alone qualifies both my wife and myself for the age exemption. We did not receive the exemption and the program did not indicate that we either could and/or didn't. We had to puzzle this out by going to the CRA site.
I recommend that the software alert the user as to the reasons one does not qualify for an exemption especially if one does by one parameter, but not another.

Great New Features
I have been using Turbotax for years and I am quite happy with the ease of use and features. This year I especially liked the ability they now have of going to the CRA web site and retrieving all your tax forms. This is a significant time saver and saves a lot of error checking and retyping. Since I also do the tax returns for my wife and daughter this was really valuable this year in minimizing form entry.
The only thing they need to work on is the form for Charity Tax receipts. It does not fit onto one screen and you have to now scroll to bottom to get the next form. Resizing via Windows (cntrl - right mouse button) only works for that one screen and then it goes back to original size.

Hard to get a clean exit
When I have sent in the return and received confirmation I save the return and continue and seem to get in a loop of saving and done but don't get an exit point. Need to clean upo the exit path.

Highly valuable but not perfect
Generally Turbotax is great and easy to use. However one exception I found was pertained to RRSPs, which can be a confusing subject. One problem in particular was Turbotax' reference to Notice of Assessments; here TT refers to at a format of that document that is not longer used.

Final Return, not clear
The guide to fill out a Final Return for the Deceased Spouse is not detailed, though I spent the whole day to read from different web sites, no one shows a practical sample to follow. I have to pay a live professional to do for me and my deceased husband.

Capital Gains and T5008
Hi,
I have always wondered why Turbo Tax limited the amount of entry's for my T5008 and Capital Gains. It has caused me to manually combine several entry's to fit them all in. Not a very convenient or smart part of the program. I had to phone several times to find out about this restriction.

Printed return - date order error
When I had to print the return for my stepmother who died in 2018, I noticed that the way that the date was printed, didn't follow the order that was entered on the form. The printed version had yyyy/mm/dd, and the form had dd/mm/yyyy.

a little frustrating this year
Turbo Tax added several forms to my tax PDF that have no data on them: T657 is mostly blank (16 pgs in total), Personal Residency Worksheet (we did not sell our house is 2018), TOSI (we do not have split income).

Easy to Use
turbotax was easy to use and very straightforward. This was my first attemp at completing my taxes and and it was a breeze to navigate through the program. Any questions I encountered were easily addressed with the Help icon or the online Support assistant. I will definitely use turbotax again next year.

Decent program
It does basic returns just fine but I do wish that it explained how to enter the details relating to Saskatchewan Labour Sponsored Funds such as the Golden Opportunities Fund or SaskWorks Venture Fund.

Hard to Manouvre Around
This is a decent product and if you follow the easy-step for a straight-forward return, you will like it. If you have anything more complex, or have to go back and forth between forms it is not intuitive or helpful. It is way way too easy to duplicate forms for some reason and get several the same. Still don't know how that happens. Their help section on any of the actual CRA items is non-existent - go to the CRA site instead.

The downside is too much paper printed on final return this year - much more than previous years and no major changes to what I entered. I don't need all the explanations about income splitting - 7 pages!!! and I only file for me.

Great Product but needs User Interface improvement
The software is solid and stable and provides good tips for taxpayers. The icon on the ribbon are too small and don't scale when text size is increased. Other than that, a great product that has helped me with my taxes as a self-employed person.
